Eventually, Darya understood what Leon was planning, and despite the pain, she started to smirk. Leon was creating a more prominent and much heavier version of his spears, aside from those aspects, the only difference was the small tip and the butt of the spear, which was large and had a rectangular shape.
After five minutes, Leon a spear that was twenty meters long and weighing over a ton. After casting Regeneration on himself and on Darya again, Leon flew to the ceiling of the boss room and then just let the spear fall above the undead Trent's body.
"What are you... Urgh!" The Trent moaned in pain when the spear pierced the top of his body with ease.
It was hard to do calculations while one was almost being crushed by its own weight, but Leon concluded that Stagnation increased the gravity of that area at least ten times. So, the spear was piercing the undead Trent's body with ease since its current weight surpassed ten tons. Leon intended to increase the weight over the spear by creating some steel blocks. But the effects of Stagnation disappeared... it was hard to be sure if the undead Trent canceled its own spell, or it suffered to much damage. It didn't matter, either way, Leon couldn't use Appraisal because he was preparing his next attack while he was retreating to where Darya was. A Lightning fell on the spear and electrocuted the insides of the undead Trent.
"Urgh… you little bastard! How dare you!" The undead Trent shouted.
Ignoring the beast's complaints, Leon cast Lightning after Lightning. Even though they were one hundred meters away from the monster, they could still smell a strong odor of burnt wood. Leon's attacks were being a lot more effective, so he kept casting them.
"Wait! Wait!" The undead Trent pleased. "Don't kill me, if you spare me, my master and I will grant you an outstanding power."
That was too convenient to be true, so Leon ignored and continued to attack using bolts of Lightning. The poor undead Trent didn't even have time to recover and try anything. Eventually, the whole place was covered in smoke, but Leon already knew where his spear was, so he didn't have to see.
"You are really merciless…" Darya frowned. "Don't you think that monster can give you the knowledge you want?"
"I will never trust in the words of a monster…" Leon said. "Much less in the words of a monster who called me 'little insect'. Sparing the life of a thing which wanted to drown us on mud is too stupid."
Eventually, the undead Trent stopped from saying anything. Despite that, and continued to moan in pain for several minutes... the vitality of such a monster wasn't something to laugh at. In the end, Leon and Darya killed the creature. He leveled up his Lightning several times while the basic wind skills also leveled up a few times.
"Why didn't this disappear?" Leon frowned.
The moment Leon asked that the roots started to move. However, instead of attacking him, the roots moved to the crystal and got absorbed by it. Leon imagined something bad would happen, but nothing happened.
"What was that..." Darya frowned.
"… It looks like the reservoir of mana... was pulled by something." Leon rubbed his chin. "Considering what we heard, most likely, the master of the undead Trent wanted that reservoir of mana."
"What are the chances of the master of that monster being the god of death?" Darya asked.
"Pretty high, actually," Leon said. "I thought the monster had Zen to grow stronger, but perhaps it was just a way to recover his own mana, while absorbing the mana of this world, to send it to the other world… maybe the liches are being used by that."
"That makes sense. Although the undead Trent was strong, it had way too much mana." Darya said, and its attacks didn't consume even one percent of its mana pool."
Leon nodded, everything was way too suspicious about that place, and now that they solved the problem, they had to worry about the mention of Darya's grandfather's name.
"… I always thought that something was weird with my grandfather." Darya said, her head was down. "I heard that he was powerful, but he wasn't leagues above others. After losing his wife, he worked hard to protect this world… but twenty years ago, he suddenly got strong and repelled a harvester by himself… I guess everything makes sense now. He probably is working with monsters of the world beyond this crystal."
"Don't jump to conclusions," Leon said. " That being said… considering what we know, that is possible. From what I can see, harvesters are creatures that have more physical strength than magic powers… so, I guess a huge deal of mana would be necessary in order to let someone face them properly. Since we saw those roots accumulating mana… perhaps your grandfather has a method of increasing his mana beyond his limits."
If it was a skill that he had, it would be dangerous to use, but if it was a magic item, Leon wanted one for himself. He already could think of many ways to use such a magic item... still, that was putting a carriage before the horses. Everything useful and convenient was bound to have severe limitations and drawbacks, after all.
