Chapter 25 The Memory She Hid

Chapter 25 The Memory She Hid

“Enough!” Moxue shouted abruptly and interrupted us. The look on her face revealed her mixed feelings – anger, sadness, loneliness and some others that I could not tell.

She shouted furiously, showing me her fangs, “You are a human, just a human! Why do you speak up for me? What right do you have? You are despicable, you humans are all the same! You, you, and he are all the same! You are all just despicable traitors!”

Upon saying that, an evil aura began to surround her. She seemed to have lost all sanity and rushed towards me.

“Moxue!” I dodged her strike in a hurry and grabbed her arm during the chaos. Then, after a bright light flashed before my eyes, I began to feel extremely dizzy.

I stumbled and stepped back a few steps. However, when I opened my eyes again, I found that the surroundings had changed. In front of me was a bamboo forest and I could faintly hear the flow of a stream. Then I heard the laughter of two people.

A young man with black hair broke into my field of vision. He wore an old grey shirt and a pair of shabby pants. Despite the ragged clothes he wore, his handsome face was hard to ignore. Behind him was a woman, who wore a white dress and had cat ears and a cat tail. I knew her. She was Moxue.

“Wait! Alright, alright, I admit I’m not as fast as you!” Moxue gasped. She leaned against a bamboo and bent over, complaining, “Unbelievable! You are a human, why can you run so fast?”

“Well.” The young man smiled. “I’m a soldier.”

“A soldier? What is that?” Moxue asked curiously.

“It’s… someone who fights on a battlefield.”

“Fight?” Moxue said defiantly, “I am also good at fighting! No demons nearby can compete with me!”

The young man smiled helplessly, “It’s a little different than that.”

Moxue sat down dejectedly on a big stone, “Well, originally if I won, I wanted you to buy me dried fish! Now, I even have to say yes to your request…”

“You lost, and I won.” The young man smiled and sat beside her. “In the first place, this was your proposal.”

“Fi…Fine,” Moxue said in dismay. “So what do you want?”

“Mm…” The man thought for a second and said, “Close your eyes.”

Moxue got nervous immediately. “W-what are you going to do?”

“You bet and lost, so hurry up.”

Moxue had no choice and closed her eyes, but she was still extremely nervous. “You… Are you going to do something bad?”

“Yes, something terrible.” The man smiled.

“How…How terrible is it?”

The man kept smiling and moved closer to Moxue. Moxue had her eyes closed, but her heart was pounding quickly.

The young man leaned over and kissed her on the cheek.

“Uh…” Moxue gasped and opened her eyes. She saw his handsome face was only a few centimeters from hers. Her face immediately flushed, and she subconsciously leaned backward. However, there was nothing in the back to support her, and she almost fell from the stone.

“Watch out!” The man was shocked; he immediately reached out and caught her. However, his movement made Moxue fall into his embrace.

“Jer…Jerk!” Moxue’s face turned red, and she pushed the man away.

“How did I become a jerk? I saved your life!” The man was caught between a cry and a laugh.

“Huh! I am the demon of this mountain; I won’t die even if I fall down a cliff!” Moxue stared at him and said.

“Fine, fine. I know.” The man grabbed Moxue’s arm. “Did you get hurt? Let me see.”

“No!” Moxue moved away, replying with puffed up cheeks, “You wicked human. I heard if someone is touched by a human, she will give birth to human babies. Don’t you dare to use me to have babies!”

The young man was amused, and he thought for a second with a serious face. “I never have thought of this before… but do you want to have my babies?”

“What are you talking about?!”

–Do you like me?

–I wished I could ask you directly at that moment.

–But, at that moment, I was not brave enough to ask you, and I was not sure about my heart. I just enjoyed the time I spent with you, without knowing the first awakening of my love.

–His eyes were as black as the night sky; his eyebrows arched like the crescent moon and his smile shone like thousands of stars. However, that man was human. That man was an exorcist.

–Of course, I knew. If he were not an exorcist, he would not be chased by an injured demon; he would not break into the barrier I set around the forest. But, even so, I hopelessly fell for him. I told him funny stories about me and various things about the demons’ world.

–Ah, I wished that time could stop at that moment.

–I wished he could stay with me forever. I would never ask him anything, and he would never need to tell me anything.

–Just like this, staying together, forever, would be fine.

————————————————————————

When I opened my eyes, I did not notice a single teardrop slip down along my cheek. I looked around and was confused. I saw the old couple, Shi Yitong and Moxue in front of me.

Moxue stared at me furiously. “You peeked at my memory!”

“I…” At that moment, I was at a loss for words. “I didn’t intend to. I was…”

I accidentally saw her secret feelings, hidden deep in her memory.

“Save your excuses!” She roared, “You humans are the same! Hypocritical creatures! I have had enough of you! Don’t you want my fur? Take it if you can!”

On saying this, she raised her hands, or ‘claws’ would be more appropriate at this moment because of her long nails. She waved her claws and pounced at the old couple. Shocked, I broke out in cold sweat because of her sudden movement, and I blocked her without thinking.

“Moxue, don’t!”

Her sharp nails slashed my chest. I felt that she restrained her strength at the last moment, but I still felt a burning pain in my chest. Just in a few seconds, my clothes were soaked with blood.

Moxue subconsciously pulled back her claws and stepped away from me with watery eyes. At this moment, she returned to the crying girl that I was familiar with.

“Sorry…Gu Yu, I didn’t mean it. I…I didn’t mean to hurt you…”

“It doesn’t matter; the cut isn’t deep…”

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I don’t want this,” Moxue said and fell on the ground in dismay. Her eyes turned red because of tears. “No, no, this is not right. Things shouldn’t turn out this way… they shouldn’t.”
