Chapter 27 A Freeze Ou

Chapter 27 A Freeze Out

In your life, have you ever been afraid of something?

The answer is probably ‘yes’. Every person in their life has been afraid of many things, ranging from a ferocious beast to your head teacher. Every person is afraid of different things for different reasons.

However, have you thought about it? There is one thing everyone is afraid of; one thing every creature in the world or maybe even in the universe is afraid of.

It is the dark.

Almost all intelligent creatures in the universe are subconsciously afraid of the dark.

When we were children, we were afraid of the darkness under our beds; when we grew older, we were afraid of the street at night without lighted street lamps. Each time you’d tell yourself, it’s okay, there’s nothing in the dark. However, no matter how much we reassure ourselves, the fear of darkness never decreased.

Have you thought about the reason?

Is it because…

Subconsciously we knew, it was not true that there was nothing hidden in the dark.

Two or three days after Moxue left, Wen Jiubo and I were stuck in an embarrassing situation.

Before Moxue disappeared, she left a confusing sentence to Wen Jiubo, “I can’t believe that you join in with the humans. This is far beyond my imagination.”

But this sentence which was casually left by her made my brain almost expWen Jiubo, this mysterious man, seemed to be otherworldly. Even after knowing him for a long time, I knew nothing about his past or his background. Although I have met many people that he knew, this was the first I met someone who knew him.

Moxue disappeared in a blink of an eye. Even if I rushed and stood up immediately, I still would not be able to catch up.

“Er, it seems that she’s left…” Shi Yitong said, still somewhat in a daze.

I ignored Shi Yitong and walked straight towards Wen Jiubo.

“Wen Jiubo!”

Wen Jiubo had his head lowered and was clearing the tea set. It appeared that he wanted to ignore me. However, I shamelessly chose to stand near him.

“Wen Jiubo, does Moxue know you?” I asked curiously.

“Sort of,” Wen Jiubo ambiguously replied.

“What do you mean ‘sort of’? Why does she know you?”

“Just an acquaintance, there is no reason,” Wen Jiubo replied, trying to understate the issue.

I was thrown back momentarily, unable to retort, but I did not want to give up and asked further, “But according to what I know, you don’t have any acquaintances or friends at all. How does Moxue know you? When did you meet? What’s more, what did she mean just now? She asked if you are ‘him,’ who is ‘he’?”

Wen Jiubo had finished packing up the tea set; he turned around, looked directly at me and frowned.

“What’s more…” I was a little intimidated under Wen Jiubo’s gaze, but I still spoke what I planned to say, “She said you ‘joined in with the humans’.”

Wen Jiu did not move and looked at me in silence.

“Her tone…seemed to imply you are not human,” I swallowed hard and said.

“Er, Gu Yu?” Shi Yitong sensed the tension between us. He carefully wanted to interrupt us but was ignored by Wen Jiubo.

“I’ve never said I am human.” Wen Jiubo looked at me calmly; I could not tell his feelings through his eyes.

“What are you?” I blurted out.

Wen Jiubo’s facial expression suddenly changed. He came close with an unexpressive evil smile on his face. Startled, I tried to step back hurriedly, but found that I could not move my legs anymore.

Wen Jiubo’s whole body emitted a powerful aura, which pressed down on my chest, making it hard to breathe. However, he still came closer step by step. His handsome face was closer and closer, I could almost smell his breath.

Danger! My brain kept telling me. I once again felt his dangerous aura after a long time.

“So what do you think I am?” Wen Jiubo asked with a smile.

“Er, I…” My brain could not operate.

“Man-eating monster? Evil demon? Or the devil from hell?” Wen Jiubo said lightly. “I know what you are thinking, Gu Yu. You are thinking, ‘did Wen Jiubo ever kill a person?’ No, rather I should say, you are thinking, ‘how many people has Wen Jiubo killed?'”

I quivered and tightly grabbed the edge of the table behind me.

“Don’t you ever think that you know me well,” Wen Jiubo said in a low voice. “You are not even close.”

After saying that, the strong aura emitted by Wen Jiubo disappeared suddenly and I almost fell on the ground. I had to hold the table to steady myself. But before I noticed, Wen Jiubo had left.

“He…” Shi Yitong approached me. He frowned and pondered, “He seems to be in a bad mood today. What’s wrong with him?”

“It’s that time of the month,” I said peevishly.

Since that day Wen Jiubo got angry for no reason, we had not talked to each other. I could not lay down my pride, and Wen Jiubo chose to ignore me completely. However, when I thought about his attitude towards me, I became angrier.

What was he hiding? I would not mind at all if he were a demon, I had experienced more eerie and bizarre things. Did Wen Jiubo think I would be afraid of him?

The more I thought, the angrier I became, and the more curious I was. However, I did not want to lay down my pride and go back to the old residence to ask him. Even if I had low self-esteem, I was not shameless.

As a result, I was sulky like a child all the time until three days later, when even my roommates began to question me.

“Gu Yu, why aren’t you going to your part-time job these days?”

When the dorm head asked this question, I was washing my dirty clothes which I had not washed for a week in front of the water faucet. I kept thinking about the issues with Wen Jiubo. As I scrubbed it I started using more and more strength until I scrubbed so hard that it looked like I was just venting my anger. The dorm head repeated his question twice, however, I did not hear what he asked because of the loud sound of the water running.

“What did you say?” I turned off the tap, stopped washing and turned around to ask the dorm head.

“I said, why aren’t you going to your part-time job these few days,” The dorm head repeated helplessly.

“What? What happened?” Another dormmate on the bed popped his head out, he looked at me curiously and then looked at the dorm head and asked, “What happened to him? Did he quarrel with his boss?”

What he said unexpectedly revealed the truth. I was speechless and did not know how to answer.
