Chapter 38 The Lecturer Wen (2)
Wen Jiubo nodded, “Qi Bojian, could you come to the front?”
“Uh, okay.” Though confused, Qi Bojian nodded and walked to the front.
Wen Jiubo nodded in satisfaction, then placed his hand on Qi Bojian’s shoulder, saying, “Good, now, you can go back to your seat.”
“But, Mr—— ” Qi Bojian was puzzled, he didn’t understand what Wen Jiubo wanted.
“Go back,” said Wen Jiubo with a note of finality. As a result, Qi Bojian felt forced to return to his seat.
“See, I told you to come up, then you came up, and I told you to sit down and you sat down, you did exactly what I told you to do, do you still believe language isn’t a weapon?” Wen Jiubo grinned wickedly. The whole class was silent for a moment before breaking out into laughter.
Qi Bojian never experienced this kind of embarrassment before, his face turned red. He challenged Wen Jiubo, arguing, “Of course, I did what you said because you are the lecturer! Under this circumstance, it’s common for a student to do what the teacher tells him to do. That has nothing to do with the power of language.”
“I never denied that to properly exercise the strength of language requires ambitious conditions. Everything’s existence in this world requires certain conditions,” said Wen Jiubo, while pacing in front of the class, “A man eats when he is hungry, kills when he feels hatred. This is cause and effect; circular in nature. Therefore, we can’t deny that, under certain circumstances, language can become a weapon. For instance, in the classroom, students must obey their teacher to the maximum extent; for them, the language of the teacher becomes a type of weapon.”
Wen Jiubo stressed every word while pacing the room. Every student looked at him with stunned faces, unable to dispute his words.
“So, never look down upon what our ancestors left us. A sentence, even a phrase or a word, if used correctly and said in the proper circumstance, can become a powerful weapon. Or in other words, it can become ‘the spirit of language’,” Wen Jiubo hinted. The whole class was puzzled by his words. He gave a small smile then changed the topic, “Okay, let’s get back to our textbook. Since you have already learned chapter 13, we should start with chapter 14 today…”
Old habits die hard, Wen Jiubo would never miss an opportunity to attract attention. As soon as the class was over, I beelined towards him, knocking over obstacles in my way. However, before I had the chance to talk to him, Wen Jiubo had already been encircled by a group of girls.
“Mr. Wen!”
“Mr. Wen, the theory you mentioned is fascinating, could you tell me more about it?”
“Yes, please, I never heard of this theory before! I don’t quite understand.”
“Mr. Wen, what you mentioned, do you mean that magicians or the occult arts exist?”
I stood at the back of the circle, unable to force my way through the crowd. I saw a faint smile appeared on his face which I wanted to punch so badly right now. I cursed him a thousand time inside, but I couldn’t show my anger. Wen Jiubo, did you come here to investigate the event or to hit on the girls? Do you know how urgent the situation is? What are you doing right now?
Wen Jiubo saw me standing outside the circle. He remained smiling and politely rejected all the girls, “I would like to explain it to you, but I have some business to deal with. I’m sorry, I have to leave.”
Although the girls didn’t say anything, their looks told me that they were disappointed.
“However, if someone submits an excellent assignment during the next class, maybe I will invite her to dinner, alone.” Wen Jiubo smiled.
There were lights gleaming in the girls’ eyes. Wen Jiubo caught the opportunity and walked out of the crowd. He patted me on the shoulder and before I noticed, I was out of the classroom with Wen Jiubo.
“So, what do you think?” As soon as we were out of the classroom, Wen Jiubo immediately began questioning me.
“About what?” I replied.
“Of course about my first lecture, what do you think?” I glanced back. Wen Jiubo, who stood behind me, was staring at me like a little boy waiting for praise.
“Not good!” I was angry and amused at the same time. “Nobody but you dares to teach students how to recite vocal charms. Only you would do such a thing.”
“I didn’t teach you guys how to recite vocal charms. If I did, you would be in danger,” Wen Jiubo replied seriously.
I scoffed at his response. Not wanting to argue with him anymore, I turned around and left. However, he caught up with me and grabbed my wrist.
“Gu Yu, are you mad at me?”
I rolled my eyes but stayed silent. In the meantime, I tried to pull my hand from his.
“Are you jealous because I chatted with those girls?” Wen Jiubo pressed me further.
“What kind of narcissist are you to say something like this?” I was so mad at him that I didn’t know how to react.
“So you’re not mad at me?” Wen Jiubo ran after me.
“It’s you that got angry with me and ignored me in the first place. Now you behave like nothing happened and talk about your client with me! And you started working at my school without even telling me! Seriously, why are you treating me like this?” I turned around and yelled at Wen Jiubo.
“Gu Yu, I…”
I didn’t want to hear his explanation, so I interrupted him, “Besides, all the students on campus are terrified, nobody knows what’s going on here, but you went so far as to talk about supernaturals in the class, do you think you’re really something? Are you proud you can attract all the girls?”
“Gu Yu!” Wen Jiubo raised his voice. I felt pressured to shut up and listen.
“Gu Yu, I have something important to tell you,” Wen Jiubo stated, “I don’t know if I can fulfill this request from your university regarding Liang Kaifeng’s case.”
I went blank momentarily, “You don’t know?”
“Yes, I don’t know. Actually, I don’t have a clue about what’s going on here. The possibility of saving Liang Kaifeng is almost zero.”
“So why did you accept his father’s request?”
Although I couldn’t say I know Wen Jiubo very well, I understood this guy’s temperament. He wouldn’t accept any request if he wasn’t a hundred percent sure he could succeed. Just like Moxue’s request, I now understood why he declined it in the first place.
Wen Jiubo remained silent for a few seconds, and then he looked up at me and said, “I’m worried about you.”
I paused. What did he just say? He’s worried about me?
“This request is from a fellow student’s family and the victim was someone you knew. I know how you think and I knew you wouldn’t come to me and ask for my help, so I had to accept this request.” Wen Jiubo forced a smile. “I won’t let anything happen to you, even though I am still angry with you. Do you understand?”
