Chapter 20 Forgotten

Ah, the profile of his face was so handsome! I stared at Mr. Wen, lost in my thoughts.

Mr. Wen’s aura was special, it was full of peace and tranquility but also of coldness and indifference. This was especially true when he was slightly frowning, thinking intensely about something …

At this moment, Mr. Wen suddenly opened his mouth.

“It’s disturbing.” He smiled and looked in my direction. “It’s rude to pretend I don’t see you over there, isn’t it?”

He…he’s looking at me! I was so nervous that I fell from the tree.

Though I couldn’t feel any pain, I felt extremely humiliated when he saw me like this and I wanted to dig a hole and crawl into it.

“Sor…sorry! I didn’t do it on purpose!” I couldn’t think of a better option but to apologize to him.

However, Mr. Wen didn’t make fun of me. Instead, he grinned before looking at the chessboard again.

“Do you think if I move the white piece like this, it will turn the tide?” His slim fingers gently rubbed the chessboard with a white piece held between the fingers. I didn’t know if he was talking to me or to himself.

“Uh…I don’t know.” I was so nervous that I couldn’t complete a whole sentence. “I don’t know how to play chess…”

“Really?” Mr. Wen smiled. “Then, try and make a guess.”

“I don’t think so…”

“Just do it for fun.”

“Then… I think that if you put a white piece there…”

I anxiously looked at Mr. Wen’s profile and didn’t expect him to really do as I suggested. The white pieces began to attack, forcing the black side to retreat. In the end, the black pieces were cornered and the white side won.

“Expectedly, you seem to have a talent for this game,” said Mr. Wen as he smiled.

“No, I don’t!” I hurriedly waved my hands to deny. “I just took a wild guess!”

“You, what’s your name?” Mr. Wen turned his head and looked at me gently.

My name…shoot, he asked for my name!

But, I…I don’t remember my name!

“Oh… you don’t remember your name.” Mr. Wen tilted his head and thought for a moment before saying, “How about Chu Bai?”

Chu Bai? What’s going on here…is this a name?

Did Mr. Wen just give me a name?

“Like the white daisy flower blooming during spring, pure and petite. What do you think?” Mr. Wen asked me with great interest.

Chu Bai, Chu Bai.

I repeated this name for thousands of times in my mind, a wave of warmth slowly filling my heart.

However, back then, I was too shy and ran away before I could hear what he said later.

Mr. Wen gave a name to such an ugly and lowly creature like me, he must be… the kindest man in the world.

Since then, I didn’t know how long passed, but I had not been to Mr. Wen’s residence for a very long time.

Whenever I thought of what happened that day, my face flushed. No matter what I couldn’t face him.

How was he now? Was he feeling lonely? Was everything going well now?

One day, I wandered in the mountain as usual and didn’t return to the village until the evening.

However, I was shocked by what I saw before I entered the village.

The village was on fire. All the houses, farmland and livestock were burnt into ashes. There were dead bodies all over the place, and many people were killed on the road.

There was blood all over, and everything I saw was soaked in blood.

The villagers who had survived, gathered at the entrance of the village, waving hoes and harrows, and shouting angrily.

What are they doing…

I was curious and walked over, and then, in the center of the crowd, I saw Mr. Wen.

He was handsome as always, even though he was sitting on the cold ground, he still looked graceful.

There were weird charms and magic arrays on the ground. The angry villagers were yelling at him,

“Exorcize! Exorcize!”

“Our village has been haunted for too long!”

“Yes, a female ghost! My little girl saw her with her own eyes!”

“It must be that female ghost!” The villagers angrily raised the tools in their hands and shouted, “She committed such monstrosities!”

“Master, please seal her!”

“A female ghost, really?” I saw Mr. Wen narrow his eyes, looking like he was thinking about something.

“Yes!”

“A female ghost!”

Then, Mr. Wen nodded before chanting some kind of spell.

I suddenly felt trapped by something. Waves of pain caused by suffocation swept my body. I struggled as hard as I could, but I was unable to resist this spell, and then I was thrown in the air.

“The female ghost!”

“Here is the ghost!”

The crowd burst into an uproar as I was revealed to those humans. Some villagers began to assail me, while others threw their hoes at me. However, none of them could hurt me.

“It’s her, that female ghost!”

“It’s her, she killed my whole family!”

I struggled desperately. I managed to open my eyes and saw Mr. Wen’s heavenly, beautiful face.

“Are you the female ghost who haunts this village?” Mr. Wen had a sharp glint in his eyes as he lifted my chin up with his finger. He then smiled and said, “You look so ordinary.”

His looks and voice hadn’t changed at all. His confidence and beautiful face were still the same as I remembered.

——Of course he was…

“It’s me.” I struggled desperately and looked at him in the eye. “Mr. Wen, it’s me!”

——Mr. Wen, he…

Mr. Wen slightly raised his eyebrows, a strange look in his eyes.

“You? Who are you?”

——He didn’t remember me anymore.

My head and body ached badly. Before I struggled to open my eyes, I felt around in the dark, but the only thing I could feel was debris.

Oh, right, I just met the Gudiao!

Where am I? Am I alive?

“Gu Yu, don’t move.”

It was Wen Jiubo’s voice. I looked up at him and saw his face.

He was holding me tightly in his arms.

“Did you get hurt? Are you in pain? Why are you crying?” He looked nervous and had to kneel on the ground to hold me. His coat was soiled with dirt.

Am I crying?

I began to realize that my tears kept running down uncontrollably especially since I saw him.

I felt that my heart was filled with sadness. However, I was not sure if these tears were mine or Chu Bai’s.
