Chapter 23 The Ruined Taoist Temple

Speaking of which, this was not the first time that Wen Jiubo asked for my help during an exorcism. I suddenly recalled that when we were in Beining City, Wen Jiubo asked me to give him a pen and used it to exorcize the Wangliang.

Even if I was a psychic, I definitely didn’t have any talent in exorcism…Why did Wen Jiubo want my help from time to time?

“Don’t overestimate yourself.” Bai suddenly jumped out, it held onto my clothes and climbed up to the top of my head and brought me back down to earth. “You’re not even close.”

“Shut up, it’s none of your business!”

“See, you’re so full of yourself!”

“I’m better than you, weasel!”

“What did you just say? Hey, do you dare to say that again?”

I felt disinclined to argue with Bai, so I looked at Wen Jiubo. “Are we done here? Can we go back?”

Honestly, I was worried about Chu Bai. I didn’t know how she was doing.

“No, not yet,” said Wen Jiubo, as he put the paper man in his pocket. “We have one last step.”

“What is it?”

“Imprison Gudiao in a deserted place, far away from villages.”

We drove away from this village for around two hours, As I began to fall asleep, the Ferrari abruptly stopped. I almost banged my head against the window.

“Wen Jiubo! Don’t you know how to stop a car, I almost——”

Before I could finish my sentence, Wen Jiubo opened the door and stepped out. Something seemed wrong. What was going on?

“Ah, are we there?” Bai rubbed his eyes and sat up on my shoulder. “You woke me up before I could eat the fish…”

I ignored that weasel and stepped out of the car as well.

I was astounded by what I saw. I didn’t expect to see a small Taoist temple in a remote area like this. Judging from its look, this temple had been abandoned for a long time. Among the scattered objects on the ground, there was a broken statue of Kuan Yin (Goddess of Mercy), an incense burner, and a bronze altar which had been deliberately broken by someone. There were also some paper charms that had been torn to pieces.

“This is…” I was stunned. “Did someone rob this place?”

“I don’t think so. Why did a thief want to steal from a ruined Taoist temple?” Bai became serious. He jumped off my shoulder and crouched on the ground to smell the scent. “Nothing has gone missing. All the stuff here was intentionally broken by someone. Ah, I see, this is why the Gudiao managed to escape.”

Wen Jiubo didn’t answer, but his gloomy expression revealed everything.

Could it be that someone intentionally released the Gudiao from his seal by destroying the temple? I looked suspiciously at Wen Jiubo, but he ignored me.

“Let’s clean it up. This time, my seal is far more powerful than before, and it won’t be broken so easily.” Upon saying this, Wen Jiubo restored the incense burner to its upright position.

Bai and I looked at each other before helping Wen Jiubo clean up the temple.

We didn’t stop until five in the afternoon. After Wen Jiubo put the sealed paper man in the right place, we drove back to Yan University. We arrived at seven in the evening. I was hungry when I got off the car.

“Are you hungry? Do you want to come to my place? I’ll cook some dinner for you to thank you for your help,” Wen Jiubo rubbed my hair and said. I was too tired to push him away.

“No, thank you. I want to go back to my dorm.” I waved my hand, acting like I was exhausted. In fact, I was indeed very tired. Though I wanted to rest on the big bed in the old residence, I was worried about Chu Bai.

“Okay.” Wen Jiubo frowned slightly.

“Em.” I held my hands together and apologized, “Next time, next time I won’t reject your invitation.”

“Gu Yu,” Wen Jiubo said, “is there something you want to tell me?”

I was dumbfounded by his question. I looked up at him.

I couldn’t tell him even though he asked me directly.

Should I tell you that a female ghost possessed my body? And this female ghost is the one who was mistreated and forgotten by you, but even now she still misses you?

Should I tell you how much Chu Bai loves you, but you can’t remember her name even though you were the one who gave it to her?

Should I tell you that it was actually Chu Bai who saved my life when the Gudiao attacked me, but she can’t even say a complete sentence when facing her beloved?

I opened my mouth but nothing came out. I shook my head.

“No… nothing.”

————————————————

After I entered the dorm room, I found that nobody was there. Those guys probably went somewhere to eat and drink. However, it gave me the opportunity to talk to Chu Bai.

But… what should I say?

I was wondering what Chu Bai would think after this Gudiao event and after hearing what Wen Jiubo said? She didn’t show up on our way back.

“Today is the last day.”

That wasn’t me, it was Chu Bai. I think it was the first time she started a conversation since she possessed my body.

Because of that, I stumbled on my words and did not reply.

“Uh?”

“The time I promised,” Chu Bai said happily. However, I couldn’t tell whether she was faking it.

“That promise…”

“Didn’t I tell you back then? I only wanted to borrow your body for a week. I’m really grateful. Thanks to you, I was able to see this amazing world and experience so many interesting things. You have a wonderful life, so wonderful that I felt ashamed to interrupt it.” Chu Bai smiled. She stuck her tongue out at me. “So that’s it. You have a good night sleep, and when you wake up tomorrow morning I won’t be here.”

“Wait!” I became emotional and interrupted her. Jumping out of my bed, I said, “That’s it? You’re just leaving? Won’t you regret anything?”

Since the beginning, Wen Jiubo never found out she was here. Furthermore, he didn’t even remember her name…

“This is enough for me.”

It was true. Chu Bai’s tone was gleeful, and what’s more, I could feel she was happy and at peace now.
