Chapter 8 Captivity

Wen Jiubo clearly was surprised when he heard my question. At that moment, without any warning, the ground began to shake violently!

Unprepared, we almost fell to the ground.

“What’s happening?” Bai jumped up, clearly startled. “Is this an earthquake?”

It was really like an earthquake. The three of us quickly ran out of the house, and as we did, the earthquake stopped.

“No, it’s not an earthquake,” Wen Jiubo said calmly.

“How do you know?” I asked.

Wen Jiubo pointed at the sky. “Have you ever seen an earthquake cause these kinds of things?”

As I raised my head, something astonishing happened in front of my eyes. The sky suddenly darkened so much that we could stare at the glaring sun without sunglasses. At last, the sunlight gradually dimmed until our surroundings became as dark as night. The sunlight gradually changed from a dazzling yellow to a very weak red.

I could not understand what was happening. “This is an eclipse?”

“The sun is not covered by the moon, it’s not a solar eclipse,” Wen Jiubo said grimly. “Someone used magic and set a barrier over the entire area.”

“Is it Xu Yingchen?” I was stunned. “But why would he do this?!”

Wen Jiubo and Bai’s expressions became gloomy, while I was the only one who looked like an idiot unaware of what was happening.

“This bastard, he thinks that he can do whatever he wants just because he killed Wen Jiubo?” Bai frowned.

“Wait, what the hell is going on?” I pulled Wen Jiubo’s sleeve and asked. I refused to be clueless right now.

However, Wen Jiubo did not want to tell me. He did not answer my question and just shook his head.

“This is between him and me. I have to deal with him now,” Wen Jiubo said. “Your task is over. You cannot help us with anything.”

I immediately got angry when I heard this.

“What do you mean? Am I just a tool to resurrect you that you can throw away once you no longer need me? ”

Wen Jiubo did not bother arguing with me. He just glanced at me. “If you say so. Anyway, you getting involved would only bring us more trouble; you need to stay in the old residence and just wait for good news. Although this place was almost destroyed by Lingxiao, there is a magic barrier here that will protect you from demons and spirits. It is the safest place for you right now. ”

I was stunned. “Are you kidding me? I refuse to stay here idly!”

Wen Jiubo’s tone turned serious, “That wasn’t a request.”

Before I could understand what he meant, he suddenly walked towards me. Then I felt a pain in my shoulder before I lost balance and fell on the ground.

Wen Jiubo! ——This guy pushed me to the ground?

I got up from the ground and was about to rush over to punch him, however, he closed the door of the living room.

“Wen Jiubo!” I rushed over and tried to push the door open. However, even though the door was not locked, I couldn’t open it. Wen Jiubo must have set a magic barrier outside.

Wen Jiubo, this bastard! He actually locked me inside the living room!

“Wen Jiubo!” I harshly banged on the door. “Let me out! What’s wrong with you?”

“My answer is ‘no’.” He sounded quite leisurely. “As I said, if you come, you’ll only be a burden. You can’t help us at all.”

“Even if that’s the case, you can at least tell me what happened outside!” I shouted with my face pressed on the window, “Let me out!”

“Just be a good boy and trust me, I will come back for you.” Wen Jiubo approached the window, he tapped the window with his finger and smiled at me. “As I said before, your death is the last thing I want to see in my life.”

“Hey!” I shouted, banging the window and the door with all my strength. However, I could not open them even though my hands began to hurt.

“Bai, let’s go.” Wen Jiubo and Bai slowly walked away until I could not hear them at all.

This——bastard! He actually——! Locked me here!

I screamed, kicked the door in anger, but nothing changed except that now my feet hurt.

At last, I sat on the floor, rubbing my ankles, but the door was still closed.

That bastard Wen Jiubo, if he came back alive, and if I saw him again, I would definitely throw him back into the world of Yin.

But now the only thing I could do was idly staring outside the window.

If not for the faint sunlight outside, you’d think the night had already started.

The darkness engulfed the earth. I did not know why, but all of a sudden, a sentence appeared in my mind.

If I could sacrifice myself for the sake of world peace, why wouldn’t I?

No, no, I was not the one thinking this. I did not want to sacrifice myself, at least not now since I could not even escape this room.

I shook my head and tried to get rid of this weird idea. I got up and started to walk around.

The ‘House of Exorcism’ was the living room and also the biggest room in the old residence. For people who came to the old residence for the first time, this room was hard to find. Wen Jiubo’s pharmacy ‘Ji Shi Tang’ was closer to the gate, where Wen Jiubo accepted all visitors.

However, I recalled that when I first walked into this old residence, I simply ignored the conspicuous Ji Shi Tang and directly found this ‘House of Exorcism’ that was hidden behind it. Maybe this too was my so-called fate.

This living room was where I spent most of the time in this house, and all of Wen Jiubo’s precious items were stocked here, including a variety of quirky books that I did not understand, ink and paper, and charms made of silk. Among those retro items, there were a bunch of PSPs, 3DS game consoles and video game CDs. All of those were Wen Jiubo’s precious babies.

But now… this room was a mess. Those precious old books were scattered all over the floor, and it seemed that some of them had been stepped on. Furniture, tables, and chairs, and the game consoles that Wen Jiubo valued the most were all thrown on the ground and broken.

He never let me play with his game consoles. Even if he did, he would warn me thousands of times to be very careful and not to break them. However, they were smashed by Xu Yingchen. I began to admire Wen Jiubo. If it were me, I would not be able to stay rational and come up with that bold plan.

I got up and walked to the room inside.

The room inside was Wen Jiubo’s bedroom; these two rooms were connected by a curtain hanging in between. Sometimes I wondered why Wen Jiubo needed a bedroom. After all, I never saw him sleep.

I lifted the curtain and went into the bedroom. Fortunately, things in this bedroom had not been destroyed. It seemed that they did not enter this room.

I fell directly on the neat big bed without too much thought.

Not surprising, the bed smelled fresh and I began to feel sleepy. Wen Jiubo must rarely sleep here; he did not need to sleep.

But why did he put a large bed here?

Did he, even though not human, still hope to at least act like one?

Ah, if Wen Jiubo knew that I laid down on his bed with my dirty clothes on, maybe he would go mad. No, if that happened, then I would tell him that Xu Yingchen did it.

The room was so quiet. While I had those pointless thoughts and started to relax, my wound began to ache again.

Oh, the wound was caused by that monster. There should be a rather ugly wound on my back, and there were countless bruises on my arms and legs. At this moment, they started to hurt like hell.

I thought that there should be a first aid kit in this bedroom. I knew that I should get out of bed, go find that first aid kit, and wrap the wounds. But I was too tired to get up. I struggled on the bed for a long time and finally decided to continue lying on the bed.

This room smelled like Wen Jiubo.

He sat here, read books here and rested here. Perhaps he had spent thousands of years here before I was born.

Thinking of this, I suddenly recalled that outside the door, under the signboard ‘House of Exorcism’, there was a strange couplet.

I didn’t notice at the beginning but after a while, I noticed that it was Wen Jiubo’s handwriting. Did he write the couplet?

——I have gone through the cycle of life and death hundreds or even thousands of times

——But you’ve left before you could know my name

What did it mean?

When I almost fell asleep, the pain in my head suddenly became so sharp that I almost fell off the bed.

What happened? Why does my head hurt so much?

I remembered that although I had been through a series of dangerous situations, I did not bump my head. Did I?

However, I had no time to think about it since the pain got more and more intense. I felt like a deep-sea fish caught by a hook and dragged onto the shore. I tried to breathe as hard as I could but oxygen refused to enter my lungs.

Then, my surroundings darkened.
