Chapter 13 Qing Yu 5

Chapter 13 Qing Yu (5)

The wind started to blow as the butterfly flew away and Qing Yu’s long hair was blown up. It looked as beautiful as a waterfall of black hair or delicate vines. At that moment, she seemed to be the most gorgeous creature in the world.

“Ahh, what a pity.” Qing Yu bowed her head, somewhat depressed. “It flew away.”

The fox looked in the direction of the butterfly, frowning as if he thought her reaction was ridiculous. “It’s nothing. It’s just a common bug that can be seen anywhere.”

For some reason, Qing Yu got excited.

“You can see it anywhere? Well, then that’s okay. Because…” she said with a little embarrassment, “I’ve never seen a butterfly before.”

The fox raised an eyebrow. “You’ve never seen a butterfly before?”

Qing Yu nodded. “Em. I never saw a live one before; I only know of it through paintings. Though the butterflies in the paintings were very beautiful, I always wanted to know what a real butterfly looked like.”

The fox was a little surprised. “Liar. How could you have never seen such an ordinary insect before?”

Qing Yu smiled in embarrassment.

“I’m not lying. Because I never walked out of the palace. Though there are gardens in the palace, my father never let me see them. I was only allowed to stay in my room and the corridors next to it. Although my father said that this was for my own good, but…”

Qing Yu smiled helplessly.

“It’s no different from house arrest.” The nine-tailed fox said with a frown.

Qing Yu was not angry, instead, she smiled. “Even if you say so, that was my life.”

“From what you’re saying, does that mean you prefer your current life?” the fox asked.

“Yeah,” Qing Yu muttered. “I can’t go back anyway. It’s pretty good living here with you. ”

Obviously, the fox did not expect this answer. He immediately stared at her. It seemed like he wanted to ask her something, but he hesitated.

He never thought about living with a human being until she said that, and the fox noticed that he felt slightly excited about such a premise.

In his long life, he was always alone. He lived solitarily in dangerous mountains; all other monsters and animals were afraid of and respected him. He never felt lonely; life was always the same, day after day, and year after year. No one ever talked to him as boldly and as calmly as Qing Yu did.

However, Qing Yu did not notice how absent-minded the fox was. She spoke to it again.

“Ay, since you’re so powerful, can you turn into a human?”

The fox was dumbfounded after hearing her question. “What?”

“Ah?” Qing Yu was also confused by his reaction. “What what? Isn’t it normal? Because you are so big, I need to shout whenever I wish to speak to you. And I have to look up to meet your eyes, it’s so inconvenient! Besides, can’t all monsters turn into human beings once their cultivation reaches a certain level? Why do you stay in your beast form even though you’re so powerful?”

The fox was amazed by Qing Yu’s theory.

“Why do all monsters need to resemble humans?” the fox said disdainfully. “You humans are so arrogant. You’re the weakest species in this world, but no creature can compete with you in terms of arrogance.”

“What? No, we’re not!” Qing Yu argued. “My grandmother said that human beings are the most intelligent creatures in the world. Without humans, monsters wouldn’t exist, and the landscapes, flowers, birds, and plants would not be as beautiful as they are now.”

The fox still insisted on his own opinion, “Arrogance. Anyway, you humans never change.”

After hearing his words, Qing Yu’s expression changed a little; she looked a little sad, which made the fox felt a little guilty. He did not want to anger her, but at that time, it really did not know how to talk to her politely.

Fortunately, Qing Yu quickly returned to normal as if her sadness was just something the fox imagined.

“So annoying, I didn’t expect you to be such a stubborn person,” said Qing Yu, pouting. “Do you have a name? Are you really just called ‘the fox’? Every time I call you ‘the fox’, I feel like I’m calling for a pet.”

Her words made the fox wrinkle his nose.

“The Nine-tailed Fox is just how humans call me,” the fox answered. “I was born between heaven and earth; why would I need something like a name?”

“But you have me now.” Qing Yu pursed her lips. “I don’t care if you needed a name or not in the past, I will give you one now.”

That girl was simply dumbfounding. The fox looked away and ignored her. However, Qing Yu became very excited and she started to think of names.

“Well… since you’re a nine-tailed fox, what do you think of ‘Nine’?”

The fox swung his tails and ignored her.

“No, it sounds like a puppy’s name. It wouldn’t fit you since you’re so big.”

——At least you still have some sense.

“It should sound more grandiose and noble.” Qing Yu thought hard. “What about Jiuhua (Nine flowers)?”

Before he could react, Qing Yu shook her head. “Ah, no. Although it’s a nice name, it’s a name a prostitute would have. You need to have a more elegant name.”

The fox already felt a headache coming on.

“Let me see… What about Jiuming? It’s pronounced exactly like Jiuming (Nine lives).” Then, Qing Yu shook her head again. “No, it’s too ordinary. Um——”

Qing Yu held her chin with her palms and thought about it very seriously.

“Ok——”

This time, the fox became impatient.

“How about Jiubo? Since there are so many cypress trees around your cave (TLN: A cypress tree is called bo shu)?” After a while, Qing Yu opened her mouth, but before she could reject this name once again, the fox quickly interrupted her.

“Jiubo is good!”

“Huh?” Qing Yu turned to look at him. “This one? You like this one?”

The fox nodded and said reluctantly, “Yeah, it’s nice.”

“Alright!” Qing Yu said cheerfully. “Then I’ll call you Jiubo! Jiubo, Jiubo.”

The fox finally breathed a sigh of relief, but then Qing Yu asked, “What kind of surname should I give you?”

The fox felt his headache coming back.
