Chapter 17 - Hostility Gained

Tow 17

The red-robed man took out a pocket watch and threw it at the creature.

A golden circle formed above the creature's head.

The face in the trunk opened its mouth and let out a terrifying scream.

"Don't get in the way, junior!" said the red-clad man and flew away.

"Okay!" Cheng Xiu said as she kicked away another Treeman. She didn't want to be another problem they had to consider as they fought that beast.

Cheng Xiu moved away.

"Sela!" Star Phoenix cried as he flew to her. "Behind you!"

"Sister Xiu!" San Zhu screamed.

A Serpentine Vine wrapped around her legs and pulled her over.

Cheng Xiu felt a sense of vertigo as the Forest Spirit wrapped her in its vines. Cheng Xiu freed her hand and tried to hack at the bindings.

Just as before, it didn't even scratch the surface.

The Immortals were throwing magical attacks at the creature, uncaring about her. Which made sense. She was a nobody and they had better things to do.

Cheng Xiu suppressed the discomfort that thought brought. A nobody. She was nobody in this game.

Cheng Xiu relaxed and observed the fight. There wasn't much she could do with her current strength but she could learn from this and become better.

She saw the fire circles around the creature's roots and waist, burning them away. Water bullets and spheres stopped the creature from reforming the wounded areas.

The wind blades cut through the creature and created empty spaces.

Through them, Cheng Xiu saw a glowing white crystal ball. The javelin and the electric blades were burning away the area around it, exposing it to the atmosphere with each attack.

Was that its energy source?

Cheng Xiu observed even more. The javelins were doing the most work, cutting away the vines around the source.

The creature snarled at the man with the javelin and put Cheng Xiu between itself and the incoming weapons.

Cheng Xiu shivered in fright as the javelin came towards her at great speed.

Cheng Xiu screamed and squeezed her eyes shut. She was going to die.

She was going to die!

The javelin grazed the tip of her ears, burning it a bit and cut through the vines again.

Cheng Xiu opened her eyes in surprise only to see a second one following it.

She felt her Qi Center stir and her instincts screamed.

Cheng Xiu tried to move away but the vines made it impossible.

Desperate, she bent her head.

The javelin went through the place where her face was a minute ago.

Her heart shivered and she felt everything around her become white noise.

The javelins were returning to the man as the Forest Spirit used her as a shield again.

The man aimed and threw. Once again, right at her.

Cheng Xiu frowned and ducked.

The javelin sent through the place her face was. Again.

Cheng Xiu glared as her grip on her sword tightened. They were using her.

The Qi in her Veins stirred.

Cheng Xiu trained her eyes at the javelin as it came towards her again.

She let go of her sword and tried to catch the javelin.

"No!" the man screamed when he saw a newbie hold his weapon.

Cheng Xiu aimed the thing, which seemed to weigh nothing and threw it right at the glowing crystal at the creature's centre.

"No!" all the Immortals screamed.

The javelin broke through the crystal shell.

The creature screamed and melted away.

Cheng Xiu fell to the ground in a roll.

[Ding!]

'Why Xiu?' Cheng Xiu asked, even though her heart thumped.

The system did not answer.

"Sister Xiu! Sister Xiu!"

San Zhu ran towards her. There was panic in his voice.

"I'm fine," Cheng Xiu said as she stood up.

"It's nearly 7 in this world!" San Zhu screamed.

Cheng Xiu blinked. "Huh?"

"I have to leave. I told you. I have an important paper tomorrow."

Cheng Xiu pursed her lips. "I still haven't done my Rats mission."

"Log off now. We can start tomorrow."

Cheng Xiu nodded. She was sure she couldn't do it alone.

"Wait!" the girl with the rainbow hair said. "We haven't talked about what you just did!"

Cheng Xiu grinned. "I'll see you tomorrow!"

San Zhu logged off.

That was a great thing about The Other World. You could log out from anywhere. Even if you were in the middle of a fight. It was a privilege that only the Qiless had. Because of their weaker Physic, they could log out if they played for more than three real-world hours.

Of course, when they logged in they would still be in the same position as before but it was a privilege many took.

Cheng Xiu was sure that when she returned to the game the Immortals would have already left. They were experts. Surely they had better things to do than to wait for a beginner nobody.

"They logged out in the wilderness!" the girl in the blue robes said. "Was that a special item?"

Star Phoenix laughed. "Or a Qiless."

The orange-robed man, with his javelin, frowned. "Are you implying that a Qiless girl grabbed and managed to hold Rynheart?"

The wind user laughed. "Don't take it so seriously, EverHill. It was a joke."

The rainbow-haired girl sat on the floor.

"What are you doing, Yue?" WenXian asked with a frown.

She grinned. "Her name had Sela in it! Just want to be friends with a fellow lover of good books!"

WenXian sweat. "You know brother Xing will not like you talking to strangers."

Yue looked at him with suspicion. "Why do you look so nervous about me meeting her? What did you do?"

"What he did?" the woman in indigo said. "That girl took away brother Xian's core! He could have reached level 70 himself with that! Little Yue, it makes sense for him to be wary of that girl!"

"Sister WuQi! How could you say that? It's obvious the girl was just protecting herself," Yue argued.

"So we are all going to ignore the fact that someone below level 20 just used a level 70 weapon?" the healer asked.

"Brother Long," Star Phoenix said, pulling the green-clad man into his arms. "Why is that so important?"

"Brother Phoenix," EverHill called. "It seems you are trying to poach people again."

"No, I'm not."

The healer shrugged Star Phoenix arms off himself. "If brother Phoenix is trying to poach the newbies, they must have potential. I'll wait for them to come back with you sister Yue."

The other experts agreed with him and they turned that valley into a camping site for Immortals.

Star Phoenix tried to pursued the girls to go away seeing as some of them were reluctant to wait for a beginner nobody but it had the opposite effect as it convinced them to stay.

The Immortals waited for hours in that valley.
