Chapter 160 - Rats On The Walls

The three masked figures stood in front of the tower, waiting for the door to open.

Cheng Xiu's Player card was inserted into the door.

"It is taking too much time," one of the players who was thrown out of the Tower whispered to his companion.

The other man nodded. "This only happens if there is some kind of inconsistency in the quest order though."

"Do you think that the girl is trying to clear a higher level than her present strength?" a girl asked her male companion.

The man nodded. "That might be it."

Cheng Xiu ignored them and just stared at the door harder. This was embarrassing.

She then heard the melody of Wind Chimes.

The door opened slowly.

Cheng Xiu looked at the two men with her.

They nodded at her and went in.

Cheng Xiu then turned to the players who were being healed by the healer of their teams. "Sorry for keeping you all entertained."

She then walked into the Tower without a second glance at them.

The door closed with a bang, closing off the curses that followed her words.

"What took you so long?" San Zhe asked.

Cheng Xiu shrugged and looked around.

This was an empty stone room.

Just as she was about to question the scenery, everything changed.

The area around them became rocky. Sharp rocks and boulders were everywhere the eyes could see.

Cheng Xiu looked up to find that there were weird creatures that looked like humanoid rats climbing the rock walls.

Yaksha stepped back. "Give me the signal when you want me to interfere."

Cheng Xiu nodded.

San Zhe gripped the trident in his hand tighter.

Cheng Xiu released the sword at her hip from its sheath.

She closed her eyes.

[Ding!]

[Player Selafia Veritas has triggered the S Ranked Quest Kill The Rats:

Player must kill:

20x Low Level Rats

15x Mid Level Rats

10x High Level Rats

5x Rat Councilors

2x Rat Queens]

Cheng Xiu was shocked.

San Zhe was horrified. "Did the AI just say S ranked Quest? It clearly said S Ranked! Wasn't it D ranked before?"

Cheng Xiu mentally prepared herself and closed her eyes again.

"Sword Dance!"

Two copies appeared beside her.

She sent the sword copies towards the creatures on the wall and killed them by chopping off their heads.

[Ding!]

[Player has killed 4x Low Level Rats.]

San Zhe stared at the sword copies in surprise as it went around killing the rats.

After the system announced that she had killed Ten Low Level Rats already, the other rats suddenly fell to the ground.

Their hairs were in clusters and glossy from some kind of slime on them. There were flees flying around them as well.

One of the rats screeched at her.

Cheng Xiu crinkled her nose at the horrible smell that wafted towards her.

San Zhe gagged.

Cheng Xiu created a second pair of sword copies and killed off the rest.

[Ding!]

[Player has completed Quest 1: Kill 20x Low Level Rats.]

The few rats that were spared scampered away.

The ground shook.

"Sister Xiu!" San Zhe called.

Cheng Xiu looked at him.

"Mid Level Rats fight by sending the flees that live on them to attack the players. It gives the status effect called 'Plague' and your mobility will decrease slowly unless you kill the perpetrator."

Cheng Xiu nodded her head in understanding.

She was happy that San Zhe was knowledgeable enough to share it with her, but she could not help wondering why she felt a bit dissatisfied with that information. Perhaps, Cheng Xiu had subconsciously wanted to do things on her own.

The rats that came up from the ground were no different from the ones from before. Brown coat of fur, slimy, and even more flee ridden.

Cheng Xiu had her swords quickly finish off these creatures too.

San Zhe frowned. Why was Sister Xiu able to kill these creatures so easily? Wasn't the Sword Dance a bit too OP at that point? Why was the system not thinking that she was violating the rules then? Was the skill she was using really still at below Level 10?

Yaksha stood leaning against one of the rock walls, watching Cheng Xiu's sword work intently. He had known she would have an easier time doing this quest than she should. By fighting with the Immortals, she had risen her own fighting value at a high level. She should only start having trouble at the counselor stage.

[Ding!]

[Player Selafia Veritas has killed 15x Mid Level Rats.]

Cheng Xiu took a deep breath and then created another pair of sword copies.

San Zhe's eyes widened. Now there were six copies floating around! Was she going to use Sword Weaving so soon.

In the end, he was thinking too much.

When the High Level Rats came out of the rocks, sending debris everywhere, Cheng Xiu just used her swords to cut off their heads.

San Zhe could not help but shiver as he realised that Cheng Xiu had already gone through 2 levels of rats at a fast pace.

And it looked like she would go through the third level just as fast.

And he was right.

[Ding!]

[Player Selafia Veritas has killed 10x High Level Rats.]

Cheng Xiu nodded and then waited for the next batch to appear.

She then remembered somehting.

"What was the speciality of the High Level rats?" She asked San Zhe.

San Zhe wanted to cry. She killed them before they could even use their powers. "Levitation."

"Doesn't seem like a rat-like skill though," Cheng Xiu said with a frown behind her mask.

San Zhe let out a nervous laugh. "They throw poison at you using levitation."

"I see," Cheng Xiu said. She looked towards the walls and then at the rat corpses around her. She felt bile rise to her throat so she looked away. "Where are the rest?"

San Zhe shrugged. "Don't know. I only know up to the High Level Rats."

Cheng Xiu looked at him for a moment and then she went through the quest details that she got so far in the tower.

"If there are counselors , and two queens, there should be a king," Cheng Xiu said.

"What?" San Zhe asked in surprise.

"I guess we have to go to the royals, and they won't come to us?" Cheng Xiu asked Yaksha.

Yaksha nodded. He smiled under the mask. Really, Clever Little Sela.

"Then let us go," Cheng Xiu said.

San Zhe was confused. "Where? And how?"

Cheng Xiu closed her eyes.

The swords that flew around her embedded themselves into the walls of the tower.

"By climbing up," Cheng Xiu said.

San Zhe shivered.

Yaksha chuckled.
