Chapter 179 - Double Kills

The rat in the deep-blue robe rolled around on the ground, trying to put of the fire.

The fire had spread up the creature's arm and was not all the shoulder.

Cheng Xiu grimaced as the rat screamed in pain.

She walked forwards and raised her sword.

The rat looked at her in horror.

"I am putting you out of your misery," Cheng Xiu said to it.

The rat glared at her, and sent a fireball her way.

Cheng Xiu dodged it casually, and brought the sword in her grip down.

The rat was beheaded and there was a flash of light as the creature's body disappeared.

[Ding!]

[Player Selafia Veritas has killed 1x Rat counsellor.

Gained one Level 3 grade A Monster Core. ]

Cheng Xiu nodded. As expected. She could only get the system notification if she killed the Main Quest targets.

She then pulled out the blue coloured crystal from her storage space. The shade was similar to the blue border in the room.

Cheng Xiu looked at it in facination, turning the stone in her hand to see how it would sparkle in different angles. Blue light reflected off the stone onto her face, giving her features a softer tone.

"You got a monster core?" a baritone voice vibrated next to her.

As the warm breath tickled the sensitive shell of her ears, she felt a warm body close to her back. Cheng Xiu stepped away from the body next to her and glared.

"Yaksha!" Cheng Xiu shouted. "Personal space!"

Yaksha's dark eyes stared at her for a few moments before he backed up. "My apologies. I meant to talk to you in a low voice so that we do not disturb Mr San."

Hearing his words, Cheng Xiu looked towards San Zhe.

The blue robed man used his trident to block away the stabs of the Earth Spears that were sent his way while also trying to take jabs at the rat in front of him.

The creature screeched at him.

San Zhe's eyes were completely on the beast in front of him, not aware of the surroundings. His entire body was littered in cuts and bruises from the stone shards, spears and boulders that the rat had attacked him with.

The rat, on the other hand, was in a worse shape.

Its off-white underbelly was littered in wounds.

Cheng Xiu blinked. "Brother San looks extremely heroic at the moment."

"He took your advice and used the moment that the Rat would raise its hand to attack him to create wounds on it."

Cheng Xiu's eyes sparkled at the words. "That's good."

Yaksha nodded.

"Right!" Cheng Xiu said in a whisper, careful not to distract San Zhe's fight. "I did get a monster core as a reward for defeating that thing."

Yaksha nodded. "What is its detail?"

"Level 3, Grade A."

Yaksha looked at the thing in surprise. "That is a very valuable Monster Core to have at the level you are at!"

Cheng Xiu looked down at the stone for a moment. "What does it do? Upgrade my character?"

Yaksha hmmed. "Something along that line. It stimualates your Qi center to awaken faster, heals you if you are too injured or weak, it also allows you to upgrade if you are at a bottle neck and can't break through to the next Level."

Cheng Xiu looked at the diamond shaped crystal in her hands in fascination.

"How do I consume it?"

Yaksha looked at her side profile for a moment. Her voice sounded extremely excited.

"Just pop it into your mouth."

Cheng Xiu blinked. Her nose wrinkled as his words sank into her mind. "This thing has not even been washed yet."

Yaksha laughed. "The fact that it came from your storage space should tell you that it is clean. System Rewards are always Hygienic. If you want to get unhygienic ones then you would have to kill monsters that are not linked to your quests, and split open its heart while sending Qi into the beast's veins. You would also have to do this right after the creature had died. The core desipates after an hour of the monster's death."

Cheng Xiu's face looked green. She felt bile raise from her stomach at the thought of what she would have to do in order to get a core without the system's help.

"I just asked you if it was clean," Cheng Xiu said in a greiving tone. "Why did you have to tell me the gory details! Did I ask for it?"

Yaksha blinked at her. "How can I not say something about it? Are you not happy that you know where to get the core from now?"

"Not happy."

Yaksha blinked. "So blunt. Why are you always so blunt?"

Cheng Xiu scoffed and put the blue core into her mouth.

She feared she had to chew the thing but it melted in her mouth immediately. She felt warmth in her mouth and a refreshing feeling in her veins.

Her Qi circled in her body faster, and a gentle blush rose on her cheeks.

She blinked her eyes open. When had she closed them?

Yaksha looked at her red eyes that had a dazed and alluring aura to it, and gulped. This old acquaintance of his had a unique charm to her after growing up.

Cheng Xiu then raised her sword and looked towards San Zhe.

The man's features were more bloody than it was a few moments ago and Cheng Xiu could not help thinking that he looked even more pitiful.

She then looked towards the Earth Rat that had lost a few of its fingers and had few holes on its body.

Well, if San Zhe looked pitiful, then the rat looked miserable. The poor thing.

Cheng Xiu pursed her lips. She knew that it was just an NPC, but she could not help thinking that the system gave the Human cultivators a villainous role. They became beings that would not let other creatures progress.

Just as she was thinking that, San Zhe was impaled by a spear through his shoulders.

Cheng Xiu gasped in shock.

She took a step towards San Zhe and the rat.

Yaksha stood in front of her, blocking her way towards them.

She raised her chin and stared into the dark eyes that showed through the blank black mask. "What do you want?"

"There are things that you should and shouldn't do. Interfering with San Zhe at this moment falls under the latter."

Cheng Xiu scowled.

Though he could not see her face, he could guess her thoughts through the narrowed slits of her eyes.

"You promised him."

Cheng Xiu stilled. That was right. She promised San Zhe. She could not do anything unless he asked for her help.

She looked up to the place where San Zhe fought against the rat. He pulled the spear out of the wound on his shoulder with a light his and threw it back at the creature.

The Earth Rat threw a boulder at the incoming spear and turned it into dust, sending debris everywhere.

Following that, the rat slashed its talons towards San Zhe.

San Zhe stepped away.

The wall behind him tore through like it did when the fire rat had attacked Cheng Xiu with the Poisonous talons.

Cheng Xiu pursed her lips to stop herself from rushing forwards.

She had to believe that he could do it. She had to turst his ability and let him do his own thing.

"Distract me," Cheng Xiu said to Yaksha as she tore her eyes away from San Zhe with difficulty. "Distract me so that I will not rush over to him."

"So…" Yaksha started to say and then fell silent.

Cheng Xiu waited for a few seconds waiting for him to speak. Seeing that he was still searching for words Cheng Xiu shook her head.

"such bigshot of the game," Cheng Xiu mocked him, "and yet you can't find a topic to distract me?"

"Yes…"

Cheng Xiu sighed and thought for a moment. She had no idea as well.

Yaksha stared at her for a moment. "Can I ask you something?"

Cheng Xiu nodded.

"How long have you really known Mr San for?"

"Two weeks," Cheng Xiu said with confidence.

Yaksha raised an eyebrow. "You are so concerned about a friend you made only a couple of days ago?"

Cheng Xiu slumped. "Yeah…it is a habit of mine. When I make friends…"

"You are no longer able to think logically?" Yaksha said to her helpfully. "You feel the need to keep protecting them?"

Cheng Xiu tilted her head. "Yeah. How did you know?"

"Just a guess."

The thing was, he had known about it a long time back. He was just surprised that she still had that childish loyalty towards her friends despite the fact that she was so old.

Yaksha was about to say something more when a weird, gurgling screech sound came form the side.

Cheng Xiu and Yaksha looked over and found the Blue-robed San Zhe stab through the neck of the creature in front of him, killing it.

Maya: You don't mention me anymore.

Author: Are you the MC? Why would I keep mentioning you?

Maya: Just stating the obvious. By the way, there are a lot of characters that you have introduced briefly but haven't brought them back in a while.

Author: *sigh* I can nly do things that feels natural. Right now, this is what feels natural.

Maya: You are writing a Post -apocalyptic story that have people with magic like powers. What is so natural about it?

Author scoffs and puts her head in the sand.

Maya snorted in disdain: Useless.
