There were three wooden torches with glowing red flames in them floating in the air right next to her face.
Cheng Xiu was sure that the torches were on the walls before.
She stepped away from them.
She closed her eyes and sent the Qi in her out, to sense the world around her.
She got a sense of emptiness and the sense of being alone as her Qi touched the invisible wall of the dome. She subconsciously made a conclusion, these invisible wall that separated her from San Zhe and Yaksha were not just walls. They were chasms.
Though she did not know why it happened or what would happen in the chasms, Cheng Xiu knew what it represented in this world. The chasm gave her a somewhat familiar feeling. A feeling that she was only now aware of as she touched the dome wall because she had felt something like that before.
It was the feeling of having no Qi.
Though there were many out there who would say that Qiless means that there was no Qi at all in their body, the truth was, they were just unable to access the Qi of the world and the Qi in themselves.
There were some areas in the universe that were truly Qiless. Areas that were like small pockets of Qiless areas.
And these areas were very dangerous for those with Qi, whether they could access it or not. Because the creatures that lived in these Qiless areas were hungry for those who had it.
Cheng Xiu moved away from the Chasm towards the floating torches. Better to face these things than the things that could just suck away the Qi in her.
Cheng Xiu blinked. That reminded her of something. The Ghost Flames were things that ate the Qi in the atmosphere to strengthen itself. It that mean that it was a creature of the Qiless Zone too? Was it something that she should worry about?
"She did not step back more," a dissatisfied voice said. The voice of the Fork.
"Do you think that she knows what the Chasm does?" a voice asked.
"How can it be?" the voice of the Fork asked. "The scary one is the black robed man and now he is separated from them! And this is a girl."
Cheng Xiu frowned.
"What does it matter if it is a girl?" the torch asked. "Am I not one?"
"You are a torch now," the Fork argued. "Why is that woman not touching the torches? Don't they all want to touch it?"
Cheng Xiu was surprised by those words, why would they anyone want to touch the torches? They obviously meant something sinister as their fuel is blood.
"Come out," Cheng Xiu said, "I have enough of the three of you trying to make me do things you want."
"Do you think that she knows we are here?" Spoon asked Fork.
"How can that be? Is this human so capable?" the voice of the Fork asked.
Cheng Xiu looked around her to see where those utensils and the wooden troch could have hidden.
There were barrels and barrels of wine around her with the words 'Vermin Wine is the best' written on it that made Cheng Xiu want to puke but that was it. There did not seem to be anything else on this section of the Nest.
If she was asked why wine or any type of alcohols would be placed near the door instead of the aisle closer to the cashier, she would not be able to tell anything in return. The floor planning of the entire Nest made it seem like the wine was the least valuable thing in the room. And maybe it was. She was not aware of 'Vermin' culture and so she would not be able to judge the Nest functionality.
"Just come out," Cheng Xiu said as she massaged her temple. Though this was a VR game, she could still feel the phantom pain in her head that this kind of situations would bring.
"I think she knows where we are," the Spoon said in a trembling voice.
"Why are you so scared of that?" the Fork asked. "That blockhead is a nutcase. There is no way that a woman can find us so easily."
Cheng Xiu turned towards the direction that the voices came from, her eyes on the floor. "That is a misogynistic ideology, Little Fork."
"She knows!" Fork screamed.
Cheng Xiu saw a flash of silver in the corner of her eyes.
She turned to see the Fork run out of one of the walls, revealing a hidden room in the wall.
Cheng Xiu's lip twitched under the mask. That was the power of having Pig teammates. They would boast about themselves all the way until they are faced with any actual danger, and then they would be the first to abandon the team and run away.
The Spoon and the Torch bent forwards and forwards as though they were watching the Fork run away from their position.
Cheng Xiu's eyes widened when the torch was bounced back by the dome.
"Oh no!" the Fork cried.
The Spoon and the Wooden Torch jumped out of their hidden room and turned to see why the Fork was reacting the way it did.
The wooden Torch jumped back in fright. "The Chasm! Why is it the Chasm!"
Cheng Xiu frowned. The Chasm. Was that what these creatures called the Qiless Zone?
"What is the Chasm?" Cheng Xiu asked.
The NPCs did not mind her.
[Ding!]
[Chasms are Qiless Zones that eat away at the Qi-filled areas around them. The Other World has semi-sentient Chasms.]
Cheng Xiu blinked. "You know…you did not appear when I asked questions before."
[There was a Level 70 player with you.]
Cheng Xiu frowned. "How does the Chasm work?"
[The same way that the Qiless Zones of reality works.]
"Then what are these red torches for and what do they represent?"
[Ding!]
[Player can not access Dungeon related information directly from the System.]
Cheng Xiu thought for a moment. "That means that the Chasms are not part of the dungeon?"
[Chasms are the ways that the Clock Tower punishes the Creatures in its levels who try to climb the wall. If they survive in the Chasm they can live, if not they can die.]
Cheng Xiu gaped. "Didn't that just equal to death either way?"
[Perhaps.]
