The alarm rang once more but Cheng Xiu instinctively cut it off and returned to reading the article.
She learned about the terrains of the game, the important NPCs and many more. It was through this article that she realised that the most powerful continent of the game, The Central, was actually not the richest. That was the Eastern Continent.
She was intrigued by the world and the titles that the players had in the game, she was curious about the various painful realities that a lot of people had to face in the game.
She explored the sites related to the game even more rigorously.
And that was how she came across a special site. The Awakened. And there was a catchphrase in there #Qiless. There seemed to be something mysterious about the site as even though it was an open site that was launched a few days back, it seemed to be getting a lot of traction, though there were no interactions in it. Her thoughts went to something special that she had experienced before.
That sense of Awakening that a lot of Blessed people talked about.
She clicked on the log-in tab.
The page opened to the log-in page with the usual 'Forgot password?' and 'New User' interfaces displayed on it.
Cheng Xiu decided to register.
She stopped at the information page. She blinked and then looked at the Fold watch in her hand. Could she use her Player Account instead of her real account? She did not feel that secure using her real information. And even though the game account was made with her DNA Registration Account, it was secured by the firewall of the AI of the game and the DNA registration.
Cheng Xiu could not explain the suspicion in her heart and the chill that went down her spine at the mere thought of sending an unprotected account into this server.
She knew she was a paranoid person at times that looked at things with a negative perspective. But this time, it was more than a paranoia. Her instincts were sure.
She plugged the Fold Watch to the Fold Mobile and then switched the Watch on.
The watch automatically scanned the device it was connected to and then the screen of her mobile phone seemed to go through a blue filter.
She touched the part where they were asking for her E-mail ID. The screen froze.
Cheng Xiu looked at it curiously as a text box appeared on screen.
[New Device Connected. Would you like to use the ****4444 profile to open an account in the present server?]
Cheng Xiu smiled and clicked 'Yes'.
The Blue filter suddenly went red and then the site showed a few codes and the words 'Site Crashed due to client Interruption' instead.
Cheng Xiu sighed in disappointment. She had not even began to fill in the information when the site actually crashed.
She shook her head and went to a different site with similar tags.
In another side of the globe, a man cursed as he threw away his headphone.
He looked at the text box on his computer screen in disbelief.
[Sorry For The Inconvinience, but your server does not have permission to access this account and hence, the security Bot Maya will do a Filtering. Should Information Violations are found, the site will be banned and similar sites will be monitored by the Bot in the future.]
"Damn it!" he screamed, his red hair flying in the wind.
"What happened?" a calm voice asked from behind him.
The man let out a sigh and then turned to the visitor.
"Joseph."
The brown haired man nodded. "What happened?"
"I got the site to catch those abominations up a few days ago and there was some responses."
"And?"
The redhead collapsed onto the chair. "And then that fricking AI Maya somehow hacked into the server."
Joseph raised his eyebrows. "Oh?"
"And I don't know how it happened!"
Joseph laughed. "You did not think you would be able keep that AI away from your site did you, Stevie?"
Stevie snorted. "I know programming. I can guess at what happened."
"You just said that you did not know?"
"I don't. But I can make an educated guess."
"What happened then?"
"Someone used the gaming account to get into the server instead of their other accounts. That is the only loophole that the AI could use."
Joseph sipped on the red wine in his hand. "That means that your site is not safe enough for some people."
Stevie rubbed his eyebrows. "I can't believe I am saying this, but we have to consider the fact that those people have the instincts like the usual Blessed."
Joseph froze. "What did you say?"
Stevie shrugged. "Technically they are late Awakened people…"
"But only after all the procedures that declared them as Qiless," Joseph said as he put the glass down to the table with a loud thud. "There is a few theories floating around in the organization that the Awakened Qiless are people who have found the way to steal Qi Cores from the Blessed."
Stevie shuddered. The Blessed people already had a body used to Qi flow since birth, and even more so after their Initiation. He could not even imagine the pain and suffering that a person might have went through due the sudden lose of Energy Supply.
He hoped that was not the case.
"We need to find these abominations and eliminate them. If them stealing the cores is the truth then we should stop them as soon as possible."
"And if they are not?"
Joseph snorted. "Who cares. Death is the only end for those creatures. They were born as imperfect, punished to bear the pain of never feeling the connection that we do. And so, Imperfect that they should remain."
Stevie nodded and then turned to the computer again. "I am going to see if I can salvage this situation."
Joseph nodded. "You do that."
He left the room.
He was on his way back to his lab when he was stopped in the way by Dr Ravi Ghosh.
"Dr Ghosh, what is it?"
The brown skinned man sighed. "My girlfriend brokeup with me. Want to get some drinks."
"Can't. Have some lab works to do," Joseph said. "Oh! By the way, where is Cyrus? I wanted to know how…his uncle was doing?"
Ravi gave it a thought. "I think it's as good as it could get. The Qi in his body is still at the developing stage, from what Cyrus was talking about. But then again, that is a good thing. Even if he would not have any special powers, at least his physique would have improved, right?"
Those who heard his words in passing nodded at him.
Joseph laughed. "Right. I asked where was Cyrus too."
Ravi blushed, his dark skin becoming darker. "Don't know. Probably smoking somewhere."
Joseph made a sound of understanding. "Smoking huh? Does that cigarette include the an addictive ingredient called as the Dean's Daughter?"
Ravi let out a nervous laughter. "I did not say anything.2
Joseph made a zipping his lips kind of motion and then chuckled.
"Oh!" Ravi said as an obvious method of changing the topic. "My Qi Insertion is showing signs of above 80% success."
Joseph gave him a strained smile. "The one of the Qiless Subjects?"
"That is correct!" Ravi said, "I need to go! Bye!"
Joseph watched the man walk away, hatred in his eyes. The Qiless were only one step above the Abominations and Joseph did not like the fact that Blessed Commodities like Qi was being used to cure them!
It took all of his self-control to walk away without hurting anyone and close the door behind him.
He stared at the table in front of him.
He let out a sigh. He could not go on today. He had to do something that would relax his mind.
He took out his Fold Device and made a call.
"Boss?" a gruff voice said from the other side.
"I need a specimen for tonight. The None-cored kind."
There was a pause. "Purpose? To kill or to raise?"
"Kill of course," Joseph said, "If I wanted to raise, I already have a better quality specimen in mind."
"Any specification?" the other side asked.
Joseph's mind went to Ravi.
"Male, ideally of the Indian Acestory."
"Age?"
Joseph hmmed. "Any is fine, but they should look like an adult."
"Okay," the other side said and then hanged up.
A sinister smile rose on his lips. He could feel his mouth watering at the thought of what was waiting his lab stretcher that evening.
In the woman's dormitory of St Andre's Academy, Cheng Xiu was finally dragged out of her internet surfing with a call from San Zhe.
It was time to return to the game.
She let out a smile and rushed to the game helmet.
