117 What Is It Son?

Ashton didn't wait another minute as he jumped up and run to his car, he was actually in a meeting but he didn't care.

The moment he knew that she was important to him, he decided that he will do everything no matter what time or day, once she gives him a call.

He will surely be there.

"15 minutes, that's my maximum, hang on until then, and don't drop the call," he commanded.

His residence was twenty minutes away from Amber's building, he could only lower it by five minutes.

Amber arrived at her office during this time, she put on her Bluetooth headset and sat down in her chair, leaning lazily acting like the boss.

She need to act tough in front of Joseph once he arrives.

Ashton may arrive 15 minutes in the building entrance but going up here, it might take another two minutes.

"What are you wearing?"

Ashton understood her reason behind asking it so he gave her the description.

After that, with difficulty she picked up the phone and made a telephone call.

"This man will be arriving in about fifteen minutes, don't dare stop him while he was rushing or I can just give a call and all of you are fired."

She gave them the description. She didn't want to rely on his identity as Ashton Wright for not everyone knew of his face.

Slowly her strength slipped away from her and soon she could only speak not even her fingers could she move.

And as she dreaded 12 minutes later, Joseph came to her office without knocking.

"I say despite being the superior, there should still be privacy around here right? There is an etiquette called knocking," she commented making Joseph stand for a few second before going out.

He closed the door and knocked before once again opening it.

He entered with a bright smile, "Would that be enough?"

She heard Ashton cursing from the other side upon hearing his voice.

"Do you still need something from me?" she asked not even a hint of anxiousness in her voice nor her face.

"You really piqued my interest," Joseph said as he closed the door behind him.

This floor has only this office so even without locking no one would truly enter especially since there is no secretary.

"I have? In what way? My answering back?"

"I don't know, but maybe that's a part of it. Compared to the other ladies, you never truly curry favor from me," he started saying as he slowly made way to her table.

"I'm almost there," she heard Ashton say.

"Be careful," she replied it was just in time as Joseph picked up a snow globe on her table.

"Is this important to you?" he asked putting it back down.

"Everything around here is important to me, it was my fiancé after all who bought everything for me. When I told him that I needed a few stuffs for my office, he just went and bought everything."

Even her eyes brightened after speaking of this.

Joseph felt a surge of anger as he reached out.

"I don't think you should touch me, I wouldn't dare if I were you," Amber said with a hint of sharpness in her eyes.

"Oh, what can you do? You are but a woman, I have tried some who resisted at first but enjoyed it towards the end," Joseph proudly said as his hands slowly reached out to touch her face.

"Could you be talking about your endeavors in your office? Must I say my first day was quite eventful," Amber even smiled as she spoke.

This sentence caused Joseph to stop his movements, "You."

He squinted his eyes, 'She knew, she knew about what was going on inside my office?'

He tried to think back, her first day was when she fired Karen and after lunch of that day, she and Francesca had a threesome with him.

"You eavesdropped?"

"Oh please, even if you kill me I wouldn't have wanted to eavesdrop on such hideous things. I'd rather hear the moan of my fiancé than yours."

This angered Joseph even more as he continued reaching out to her.

"You sure you'll do that? In 10… 9… 8…"

Joseph frowned as she started counting down.

"What are you doing?"

"Oh isn't it obvious? I am counting down. 5… 4… 3… 2… 1…"

Just as she said 1, the door flew open and Ashton with his dark face entered.

"A- Ashton?!?" Joseph stuttered upon seeing him.

He retracted his hand as he looked at him in surprise.

"Hi Ash… mister Joseph Fox, meet my fiancé, Ashton Wright."

Amber spoke as she felt like all her imaginary strength have disappeared, if it was an ordinary day, she wouldn't have called for Ashton, but today just have to be the day that the side effect has to kick in.

"You- You're her fiancé?" Joseph was even more shocked.

"Isn't it obvious now? Go and step away. If you ever get close to her for even just a foot, I might end up blowing your hands," Ashton said darkly as he walked towards Amber.

Joseph looked at the two of them alternatingly before he glared at her and storming out of the office, Ashton walked towards the door and locked it.

"You should change your door lock, that way only those who you allow could enter this place," he said.

But he was shock upon seeing big tear drops streaming down from her eyes when he turned around.

He rushed to her side and grabbed hold of her face.

"What is it? Did he do anything? Are you hurt somewhere?" he asked worriedly as he checked her arms.

"No, I just never thought I was so scared not until you came in. I couldn't help but shudder when I think that his dirty hands might touch me," she said in between her sobs.

She couldn't raise her hands to wipe her face as she currently could only speak.

Ashton stood up and carried her before he himself sat down on her chair while placing her on his lap.

He started caressing her back as he planted soft kisses on top of her head.

"It's okay now, I'm here."

He kept saying that over and over again.

His voice was so tender that every fear Amber felt slowly disappeared at the same time she had fallen asleep.

He looked down at her before sighing, this time he was not late.

Just then his phone rang.

"What the hell Ashton? Why did you suddenly leave?" Liam asked.

He was Ashton's cousin who was handling the security of their company. When Ashton received Amber's call, he instantly left the house.

"I had to, I no longer want to be late," he replied as he looked down at the sleeping Amber.

"Huh? What are you talking about? Grandfather was raging upon finding out that you actually left the online meeting."

"I'll speak with him, he'll understand."

Liam sighed, "Fine, just tell me that you didn't leave to be stupid again."

"I didn't, I left for a very important reason."

After that Liam bid him goodbye but not long after he put down his phone, another call came in.

"WHERE ARE YOU!?!? Do you know how important the meeting was a while ago??" Gideon's voice rang out that even Amber who was sleeping furrowed her brows.

"Keep it down grandfather, you'll wake her up."

"Her?? What are you talking about?"

"Amber, grandfather, I am with Amber right now. And I'm glad I left the meeting."

Gideon was stomp for words upon hearing the relief in Ashton's voice.

"Could she have been in danger?" his voice mellowed down a lot as he asked.

"She was, but she handled it very well until I came."

"Then, I suppose, I'll explain it myself to the others, stay with her."

"Grandfather…"

Just as Gideon was about to drop the call he once again heard Ashton's voice.

"What is it, son?"

"I found her, the person I wanted to protect even more than how I felt towards Madison back then."

"Hmmm, I'm happy you have."

It was actually Gideon's words when they had no choice but to lock Ashton up with what happened to Madison.

'Stay strong, someday you'll find someone else. Someone who is meant for you to really protect. She will surely come and you'll know once you felt the sense of protecting her more than how you have protected Madison.'

"Sir?" his assistant called out upon seeing tears coming down from Gideon's eyes after he ended the call.

"I'm fine, these are happy tears. He finally… finally… found his own peace."

Without thought of his age nor his position he started crying like a child.

All of them has this little regret in their lives.

That is, they were unable to protect Ashton from so much pain and suffering and no matter what they do, they just couldn't.

"You're already so old, why are you still crying?" an elderly woman's voice came from the door.

He looked up and gave a weak smile, "Our grandson, Ashton, have grown up. He finally knew where he belong."
