163 Both Of Them Have The Same Enemy

"You don't seem shock," Cathrine asked.

She finally decided to meet Amber after knowing that she flew all the way here for his birthday.

"I have a hunch, madam," Amber replied respectfully and politely.

"Could it be when I had an allergy attack?" Cathrine asked.

They were already sitting on the table and the other members could only look at them back and forth.

"At first I didn't thought much about them but when I looked back, your questions weren't questions a stranger would normally ask. And your reactions weren't reactions a stranger would have," Amber replied honestly.

"A smart one I see," Cathrine said.

"Tha-"

"Too smart that is, too smart that you would run around leaving behind my grandson in this country," she was serious as she spoke.

Amber smiled upon hearing this, she didn't care if this is a test or not.

"You have already heard my answer madam, if you still want to ask me that same question then I will answer you willingly with what I have told you back then," she said, her voice was still polite and full of respect.

"I know you were a strong willed person but are you sure you want to go against me?" Cathrine didn't back down either.

Amber once again smiled at her, "I will give you the respect that you need if you really can't accept me but just as I have said back then. If Ash didn't want me to leave then I will not leave."

"How dare you answer in such way towards the madam?" Carla, who somehow was also there, spoke up the moment Amber finished her sentence.

"Oh you're here? I have forgotten until you spoke," Amber didn't back down either.

"Why can't I be here? It is Ash's birthday and we always celebrate it," Carla retorted.

"Aaaahhh always, then where were you during the times that he hated his birthday? Abroad? Because you need to study?" Amber answered with sarcasm.

It was in complete contrast with how she spoke with Cathrine.

"Enough, you are the visitor here. Carla is already family, stop this," Cathrine spoke up.

Amber looked at her before lowering her head, "I understand."

Carla looked at her triumphantly but Amber didn't budge.

"It is this strong personality of yours that I find problematic, are you going to make Ashton clean up after you every time you get into a fight?" Cathrine then added.

Gideon wanted to stop them already since it was Ashton's birthday but Cathrine wouldn't let him.

"I think, madam, I am not the type of person who would let my lover clean up after me."

"So you're saying that you are strong enough that you don't need to lean on him?"

"I never said that."

His family members were looking at them back and forth except for Ashton who remained seated beside her not commenting.

"Your words implies it," was Cathrine's reply.

Ashley wanted to clap but was stopped by Liana.

Even Gideon and Kyle was moved by her words. They still didn't know that these two are already a couple. They only know that Ashton has feelings for her and that they understood one another better than anyone else.

Cathrine didn't react while Carla was already fuming inside.

Seeing that Cathrine remained silent Amber no longer spoke and instead waited for them to start eating.

It was after eating that Cathrine called for Amber and Ashton separately.

*****

"Why do you keep on answering back to me? You can see that I didn't like you why still act that way?" she asked Amber.

Amber looked straight in her eyes, "If I back down now, I will have to back down the next time and the next and the next and the next. I am not that type of person and Ashton didn't love me for being such a person."

Cathrine was taken a back, Sarah's face overlapped with Amber's.

"Do you think I would like you because of what you are saying now?" she then said.

"No, I have already told you the last decision whether I will stay or not lies on Ashton. As long as he wants me to stay by his side then I wouldn't leave."

Amber's eyes didn't waver at all as if she really was not scared of Cathrine not wanting her.

"You're out for revenge, I can't risk the life of my grandson because of that," Cathrine once again said.

Amber smiled as if she was asking, 'Put his life in danger? Ashton?'

"You told me on the first day we met that you feel guilty towards your grandson because he sacrificed so much for the family. Are you telling me now that you will let him sacrifice his happiness for your own peace?" Amber opened her mouth and said seriously.

Cathrine was rendered speechless.

"If you don't like me then I will accept that but I wouldn't back down for you. I will fight for him as long as his fighting for me."

That's all she said before leaving the room.

*****

"Leave her," was Cathrine's first words when Ashton entered the room.

"Why?" Ashton asked without a change in emotion.

"I don't like her for you, she is living to get her revenge. I can't put your life at risk because of her," she demanded.

Ashton scoffed, "Do you know the reason I let her do all the talking a while ago grandmother?"

Cathrine furrowed her brows.

"Because she can handle herself just fine. I was just shock that you actually didn't tell her your name and asked her questions regarding our relationship."

Cathrine didn't reply.

"You've heard her reply, she wouldn't leave me until I myself no longer wants her. But why do you think was she still by my side?" he asked.

Cathrine's eyes shifted, for it only means one thing. He wants her by her side.

You all once told me that I will surely find someone I will treasure more than Madison. Now that I found her, are you telling me to once again get hurt? Just for your peace?"

She didn't reply but her eyes grew wide, that answer was just like Amber's.

It was as if she knew how he will answer when she said it, as if their thoughts were one and the same.

"Grandmother. This is the first and the last."

Suddenly the air around him turned chilly, something he only shows when he faces his enemies.

Cathrine couldn't help but step back.

"I can drop my name if I have to. Don't try and mess with her or us, I have changed a lot and I know you know that very much. Don't try me, grandmother."

After that he turned around and left.

Cathrine weakly sat down just as Gideon entered from the other room, he was actually listening to them.

"I told you, those two are meant to be with each other. You testing them like this would just cause rift not just between you and Amber but with Ashton as well."

He walked towards her and held her shoulder.

"I have spoken with Ashton after he once again started managing the company. I asked him what he would do if Amber were to leave his side, whether by our will or by her own will."

(Flashback)

Ashton smiled coldly, "I don't think you would be able to budge that girl. Even if you all tell her that she should leave me, I don't think she would."

"How can you be so sure?" he asked.

"Are you testing me right now grandfather?" Ashton asked looking at him seriously.

"I just want to know the stand of the both of you," he answered exasperatedly.

After telling Cathrine everything and hearing that she was still uncertain, he wanted to know the extent of how much these two would fight for each other.

"Our stand? It is to stay by each others side. Whether we get the approval of those around me, that wouldn't change. And if you ever tell me that I should leave her? Then I would leave this family instead."

(End Of Flashback)

"His answer then and now were one and the same. Amber is the one he wishes to be with for the rest of his life, we must not try and pull them apart," he added.

Cathrine just sighed.

She wanted Amber because of the personality she saw and because of Sarah but at the same time, she was scared because it was the Price empire whom she wants to get revenge on.

How much pain have Price inflicted on Ashton already?

"I can see that you are still in denial, but let me tell you this. Both of them have the same enemy and that is the Price Empire," Gideon commented as he pat her shoulder.
