179 Leader Of The Band

"Then I'll leave her to you now," Amber said to Mathew as they went to their cars.

"If you need help why not try to ask one from Amber, she was the president after all," Timothy commented.

Amber who was about to nod, couldn't do so for Mathew suddenly raised his hand as if stopping her from speaking.

"Stop, don't try. I will do this on my own, you will see just how amazing I am."

Amber raised both her hands and shrugged.

Three days until the event but Gee Anne remained the same.

Mathew would sometimes appear during her performance and would watch attentively.

He would clap when she was done but she would always return inside the kitchen before he could approach her.

Whenever he tried to wait for her, she would always slip away.

"How the hell am I suppose to speak with her now?"

He slammed the door behind him.

"Maybe you are not trying enough?" Timothy asked.

"I have been trying everything since the moment I accepted this task. What more should I do?" Mathew complained as he took a drink and sat down heavily.

"Why not approach her before she could even walk down the stage?" Timothy suggested.

"Do you think I haven't tried that? She didn't finish her song and runaway," Mathew angrily replied.

"Hey Amber, since when did your office become a meet up place?" Alissa whispered to Amber who was already looking back and forth to the two men.

"Please do tell me for I too have no idea when," she replied.

"What am I supposed to do now?" Mathew suddenly looked at the two of them and asked.

He wants to leave instantly back then but Gee Anne was a difficult case for him to handle.

"Why don't you help her now Amber?" Timothy asked.

"Who was the one who declared he'll do it on his own?" she asked in return.

Mathew just looked at her sharply.

"He even vehemently stopped me from doing anything, saying he will show us just how amazing he was," Amber teased even more.

Mathew decided to just glare at her.

Amber has other plans for the event if ever this won't work but her top priority is to have Gee Anne perform and debut.

That was among her main goal for this event.

First was to be a major shareholder at Hughes Empire.

Second was to have Gee Anne debut.

She knew that her talent was among the best, so her debuting would be a great boost for their company.

"I'll make her meet you, this is your last chance," she finally said seriously.

"I..."

"She needs to debut more than you feeding your ego. This is her dream, Capa was created for people to achieve their dreams. So stop thinking about your ego and accept my help," she said with finality.

Mathew had no other choice but to purse his lips and stay silent.

"That's a bit..." Mathew didn't know what to say.

It was true that he can speak with Gee Anne but now that the opportunity is there he no longer what he should tell her to heal the scar he left her.

"Be confident, you have been doing this for so long. More than what your cousin have done, you can find words to encourage her. The scar may not heal but it would lighten at the very least," Amber knowing his dilemma, spoke up.

"Excuse me?"

The very next day, Gee Anne was indeed called.

It was a condition, she will go today to see how much she had improved.

"Please come in," the man in front of the piano called for her.

Gee Anne came in and stood in front of the mic without being told to.

'That's right if you are a performer, you would want to monopolize the stage for yourself. The first place you would go to is in front of the mic.'

He thought as he started playing without asking her anything.

Gee Anne who had been listening to so many songs, memorizing each and everyone of them knew what he was playing and stood straight ready to sing.

~"She is an amazing one, not just with talent but she is also hardworking that she knew far too many songs not another singer could compare."~

Amber told him this last night.

Seeing how she instantly stood straight ready to sing, Mathew was even more amazed.

What he played was among the old songs, 'Leader of the band' by Dan Fogelberg.

It was a song about a person who loves music that he went out on his own to achieve this dream.

It was about the son who inherit his legacy continuing his music since he was already too old to play.

It was indeed a beautiful song about someone reaching their dream and of someone who inherited his legacy.

This somehow reminded Mathew of his sister, Precious.

She once had this dream and did everything to achieve it.

But now she is gone.

Among all the talents he heard sang, it was only Gee Anne who came close to his sister.

As if this was a sign telling him that Precious's legacy was given to Gee Anne.

Allowing him to meet her when he was too tired after a long day's work.

When Gee Anne finished singing, she heard him sniff.

She was too shock that she didn't know what to do.

"Uhmm sir? Are you alright?" she asked with uncertainty.

"Go and debut," Mathew stood up finally facing her, his eyes were red.

Her eyes grew wide upon seeing him.

As she was about to leave again he stop her by the arm.

"Stop running away, I apologize. I truly do, you have the talent and the drive, you have everything that will make you famous once you debut."

She looked back at him in confusion.

"My words back then were just my selfish actions, if I didn't said anything back then, you would have debuted already. But I know my company very well. They would surely exploit you."

"Huh?"

"With proper training, you would surely reach the height of which someone the whole family knows have reached. Thinking back of her outcome I just selfishly spoke back then."

She remained silent as he kept speaking.

"But I understood now, while staying here at Capa, I can see the enjoyment in the face of its employees and talents. There are some rough edges but I can surely see that they love being here."

He let her go and look straight in her eyes.

"You have been running away from me ever since I arrived but that was also rude of me. I didn't mean the coldness I showed back then, I take them back and do allow me to tell you honestly this time."

"I'm sorry, you have everything it takes to become a famous singer. You have to achieve your dream. No one should take it away from you no matter how high their standing is in the community."

She covered her mouth, something was untied in her heart.

She had always been thinking that people would just laugh at her the way they laughed on that audition back then because of what Mathew have said.

But seeing his serious look right now, she can tell that he was sincerely telling her what he thinks.

Compared to the past two times where his voice was distant and cold. This time they were emotional.

"You speak like you too need me to debut?" she couldn't help but ask.

Mathew looked away.

"It's decided then, you will be performing in another two days."

Amber entered the practice room just then and spoke.

The two of them looked at her.

"As for your song? Shall we polish what you two have just played together?" she suggested.

Mathew furrowed his brows, "I don't like where this is going."

"Isn't it simple, since I helped you in having the chance to speak to her, you will give me this favor of playing with her on her first performance."

"You planned this all along, didn't you?" he asked.

(Flashback)

"In a bit she will arrive, the song is already on the piano go and check it while waiting for her."

"I really don't like the way you boss me around," Mathew complained but he still followed her.

"What song did you give them?" Alissa couldn't help but ask.

"A song that will give him a chance to really accept her talent," Amber replied.

"Her talent? Isn't he accepting it already?"

"He is but not entirely. Currently he is still holding back, he still didn't want her to rest. Not even wanting for anyone to inherit her throne."

"I don't get it, Amber."

"Mathew still couldn't accept the fact that he found someone who could be on par or even more amazing than his sister. He still didn't want to let go."
