309 Why Did You Forget About Me?

Not because she became slower but because of the vast amount of information she needed to find that it was difficult to get them instantly.

Though the moment she stopped typing she almost came face to face with the keyboard if not for Ashton's reflexes of stopping it, even Russel who had been watching from the moment she came in was already fast asleep on the chair.

The two men looked at each other and shrugged, they placed the two ladies on Russel's room and left quietly before returning to the study to see everything that Amber had accumulated.

"I really am amazed at how much she can get with her talent," Harvey commented.

"Though she was also doing her best to stay away from the radar of the main police force while doing this," Ashton shook his head as he replied.

"Indeed, she would really end up in trouble for having all of these."

Harvey sighed looking at the information.

In their company, there are ten major shareholders excluding the Empire itself.

One was Amber which was once from the cage Empire.

"To think that four other major shareholders are cooperating with the Cage to over throw the Carter family," he sighed.

Ashton didn't comment.

"Hey Ash," Harvey put down the papers and looked at Ashton.

"Was it… intentional?"

With the way he and Amber talked a while ago, Harvey understood already that everything she had done was for him to man up.

"Being the villain?"

Harvey just looked at him.

"Let me ask you this, when you just met her up to before you found out that she had bought a major share in your company. Do you think she was some kind of a villain?"

Harvey didn't answer but he knew she was not.

"There are times when you wanted to help someone, you have to be the bad guy. We can't help everyone for being the good guy," Ashton then added.

"Should I apologize then?" Harvey asked again.

Ashton shakes his head, "Do you think you need to?"

"Actually no, I don't feel like I have to apologize."

"Then don't. You have your own point on this situation, she just showed another point. That doesn't mean you were wrong but it doesn't mean she was too."

Silence enveloped the two of them.

"But with just this, I wonder if I would be able to really protect the Empire," Harvey sighed after a long while.

"Just trust yourself will you? Is it because you were always in the shadow that you didn't realize what your capability really is? If you were to ask us, your friends, then we would tell you that you are the one who brought the Empire to wherever it currently is."

Harvey chuckled, "Yup you really have returned to before you met Madison. No, you have improved instead, became a better man."

Ashton didn't say anything.

He then looked at Harvey after hearing him sigh those words.

"Don't tell me, you're scared?" Ashton asked.

"Wo knows?" he laughed it out.

"Harvey."

"I know."

Why would he do something out of character back then?

Why is it that he never glanced at another woman nor tried to protect another after that event?

The answer is too simple, it is because that woman was special.

And that is why he hated himself even more.

He didn't only have guilt but at the same time he felt useless for forgetting her.

Up to now, after a week of staying together, none of them have brought up that topic yet. The topic of that past they had shared.

"I cannot, I just can't," Harvey then added.

He can't face this, for he had run away from it for a long time now. Even now he was still running away, just saying it was part of the contract for him to protect her.

Ashton didn't say anything and just placed his hand on Harvey's shoulder as they looked outside the window, watching the sun rise.

*****

Amber was yawning when she realized she was not in her room and that Russel was beside her still sleeping.

She slowly stood up and left the room and there on the dining table were cooked foods and the two men already sitting there.

Ashton looked up and smiled at her as she descended the stairs.

"You should eat now, the meeting will be in three hours," Ashton said as she sat down beside him.

"I don't want to go, it will be useless anyway," she commented as she took slice of bread and it unto it.

"Come on now, you are a major shareholder. You have to be there," Harvey then said.

"Coward," Amber answered back.

"You-"

He could only shake his head.

"I really don't need to be there though," she once again complained.

Harvey no longer tried to understand her, he continued his food and bid them goodbye for Amber to get change.

"Have they left already?" Russel asked.

She had just woken up and saw Harvey standing by the door.

"Yes. The food is prepared, you should eat now," he then said gesturing at the table.

Russel nodded and went to the table, then just as Harvey was about to climb the stairs, "Harvey."

He looked back at her.

"Why did you forget about me?" Russel finally asked looking back at him.

And the anger he always sees there was gone and only replaced with her questioning look.

"Must we talk about that now?" he couldn't help but ask.

"Do you realize why I never asked?" she asked in return.

"It is because you exude this aura where you didn't want me to ask about it. So if I don't ask now? When will we talk about it?"

"I…"

Harvey couldn't answer, the reason was plainly stupid after all.

"I see," was her answer before she started eating no longer looking back at him.

Harvey tried to speak but ended up going upstairs to get change.

Russel sighed and finished eating.

*****

Harvey met Amber at the parking lot, she looked at Russel who nodded at her with a smile. Amber nodded back but the furrowed her brows, she suddenly felt ominous. She just didn't know for who it would be.

"Will she be staying in the car?" she asked Harvey.

"She said she'll follow, this place has CCTV cameras anyway, I also left a gun with her so it shall be fine," Harvey answered looking back at Russel who had her eyes closed.

"Still sleepy?" Amber asked as the two of them started walking to the elevator.

"Might be," he replied.

As they enter the elevator, Russel was watching the two of them with a sad smile.

*****

Amber was yawning which irritated David Carter.

"Do you find this too boring miss Wood?" he asked in gritted teeth.

"Oh you noticed?" she asked in return with a sarcastic smile.

"You- Don't you have any respect to your elders?" he asked while pointing fingers at her.

"Well I might have if you know how to respect the young ones as well," she replied while looking at the other major shareholders who had been staring at her with angry look, especially those who was in cooperation with the Cage family.

"How dare you!!!" one roared.

They were obviously much madder at her for buying the shares and because of that their plan is falling into pieces.

Amber grinned at him to infuriate him even more.

Seeing as she was someone who really would do anything to infuriate them, David finally raised his hand to stop the others from getting mad her or most of them would end up with a rising blood pressure.

"We aren't here to speak about that. I have called all of you for an important announcement. You were all aware that a certain someone brought in a bit of trouble to our family."

He glanced at Amber who waved back at him with a smile.

He took a deep breath to calm his anger.

"And the other person is using it to take command to the Empire. Even though it was just a minor share," he then looked at Harvey who just stared back at him.

Harvey was liking the way Amber handles these old geezers so his silence is best to compliment it.

"Therefore we have decided to give the heir a part of the share of the Carter family in order to have the power to lead the Empire. It is high time for us to do this anyway for he was already on the right age."

As he said these words, Henzler walked in with a proud smile. And glanced at Harvey with mocking eyes.

If his shares were now higher than Harvey then he can put back the leash Harvey always had on him.

Then he would return to being his servant in doing whatever he wants and he can return to just playing around.
