A few minutes after they finished eating, the door knocked several times.
"Come in!" Song Liya called out.
When the door opened, it revealed a gorgeous girl. Yu Yingyi would've been attracted to her if Song Liya didn't exist. But rest assured, Yu Yingyi believed Liya was more beautiful than her.
This time, the guest seemed to be polite and had incredible manners. The lady grabbed a vacant seat and brought it over to the table, not too close but not too far.
"Greetings, the two princesses of the empire," the lady said, her voice coming out soft yet sharp.
While Yu Yingyi was staring at the lady in approval, Song Liya watched the lady's actions and replayed them in her mind. She knew the lady was different from the people she's met today. Somehow, she had a bad feeling about this.
"Nice to meet you too, what's your name?" Yu Yingyi asked as she held out her hand.
"I'm Ru Shi, it's an honor to be here. I've always wanted to meet you, I've heard about your wonderful achievements and how much the citizens praised you," Ru Shi said.
Yu Yingyi felt like the name Ru Shi was strangely familiar, it was almost as if she's heard of it somewhere. But then again, she hears a lot of names being thrown around so she decided to forget about it.
Yu Yingyi smiled, "Thank you, and since you said you've heard of me. Did you come to the city from somewhere else?"
"Yes, I did. It took me a couple of hours to arrive here by carriage," Ru Shi answered.
"I see, did you come here to eat with your friend, or are you alone?"
"I came here to eat with my friend, she's the one who invited me here after all.," Ru Shi said and sighed. "It hasn't been a week since we've seen each other and here I am again.
Yu Yingyi chuckled, "That's what happens sometimes, but your friend has good intentions. Cherish that."
Song Liya studied Ru Shi, the way she talked, her actions whenever she said something specific, but she didn't find any flaws. Ru Shi seemed to be speaking naturally and wasn't lying either.
Yu Yingyi found Ru Shi to be a talkative person but not in a bad way. She was able to keep the conversation going while making it interesting and not boring. It's been a while since Yu Yingyi had a conversation like this with someone new.
"So, Ru Shi, how long do you plan to say in the city? I don't think you'll be leaving considering the time," Yu Yingyi said.
"You're right about that, I'm not going to be leaving anytime soon. My friend is a bit too clingy and I can't resist her," Ru Shi said.
Yu Yingyi turned to Song Liya, "Well, there's another person like that."
"Really?!" Ru Shi exclaimed. "I would think you're the one who's clinging to Princess Liya!"
"She is the one who clings to me," Song Liya said. "Every night I would wake up sweating with her arms around me."
Yu Yingyi stared at Song Liya in disbelief and shock. Song Liya was saying something that she did and was saying Yu Yingyi did that.
"Isn't that good Princess Liya? Your lover is so close to you," Ru Shi said.
"Hmm," Song Liya muttered. "When I'm not sweating all over when I wake up, that's when it's good."
"Oh really?" Yu Yingyi asked. "You wouldn't let go of my hand even when we're in public, heck, even when we're all alone."
"That sounds lovely, I'd love for someone to be in love with me so much that they wouldn't want to let go of my hand," Ru Shi said with a bit of pain in her voice.
Yu Yingyi was surprised, "You don't have a lover, Ru Shi? That's surprising."
Yu Yingyi nearly messed up, she almost said that she was surprised Ru Shi didn't have a lover considering how gorgeous she was. If she said that, Song Liya was bound to kick Ru Shi out instantly.
"Is it that surprising?" Ru Shi asked, though she seemed to be asking herself. "Sometimes, love just doesn't work out. And when it doesn't work out, that means they aren't the one."
"That means you've been in a romantic relationship before."
"Yep."
"And it didn't work out?"
"It's exactly what you're thinking," Ru Shi said. "Ever since then, I haven't thought about love since."
"I see, I hope one day you'll find someone that you'll be with forever and that the love you have for each other are equal," Yu Yingyi said, she felt bad for Ru Shi.
"It's fine, I don't need your reassurance princess," Ru Shi said before she formed a smile. "How has your day been Princess Liya? I'd love to hear about it."
Song Liya contemplated whether she should answer the question or not. In the end, she did sine Ru Shi looked harmless. As Song Liya was explaining how her day went, she also studied Ru Shi's reaction.
There was no telling if Ru Shi was a spy or not, and if she was, she was doing a really good job since neither Song Liya and Yu Yingyi could see a flaw.
However, when Song Liya mentioned something important, Ru Shi's reaction would either be surprised or shocked. They were all genuine reactions too.
Song Liya was almost sure Ru Shi wasn't a spy and that she was someone who actually someone who came to the city from another place. However, part of her didn't fully trust Ru Shi, and she kept it like that just in case.
Yu Yingyi kept replaying the name Ru Shi in her head, each time it would get more and more familiar. She was sure she heard it in the novel before, but she couldn't grasp who Ru Shi was.
"And that's about it," Song Liya said as she leaned into her chair.
"As expected, a princess's day is always interesting. I would think you'd be tired of the events that's happened so far," Ru Shi said.
"Overtime, you'll get used to it."
"Ru Shi," Yu Yingyi called out.
"Hmm?"
"If I may ask, what's your full name? I feel like Ru Shi isn't the entire thing."
Ru Shi sighed, "As expected, your intuition is sharp."
"Huh?"
