On a serene evening on a small rocky island, a loud flapping sound was heard like a large bird was approaching. The flapping sound was a little off as though it was struggling to fly.
As expected two seconds later a black shadow with large wings fell from the sky like it had been shot down by a missile. To show this was no regular bird it had the silhouette of a human and screamed like a little girl falling from a slide.
A few painful groans were heard before a figure staggered up from between some boulders. That person flying weirdly in the middle of the night was none other than Hei Ying.
He had been slacking off at his cosy job of babysitting Ji Yao. When he came back the brat had started venturing into something he shouldn't be. When he found that Ji Yao acquired not only one but two keystones he panicked.
He dropped everything and rushed over in the middle of the night to report. This is why he was flying like a drunk bird at the witching hour.. He straighten out his robe as his wings vanished into thin air and ran over to the centre of the small island.
In a split second, he also disappeared only to reappear below the surface of the island in front of a five meter tall iron door with Qilin symbols.
Lying flat on the ground he raised his head a little only to be met by a pair of black brocade boots with red patterns. A sly grin appeared on his face as he got up slowly. He knew who it was from the boots alone.
"Shouldn't you be babysitting Prince Rui?..... Rumour has it that he has been murdering his siblings and preparing for a full take over," said Hei Ying in a playful tone.
Qilin Luse's face remained stoic with his hands behind his back as he replied, "That's none of your business," shutting Hei Ying down with one sentence.
Unfortunately, this trick didn't work on a person like Hei Ying. He was rather amused by his comment. "Yikes... you must be in a pretty bad mood," he casually said.
Hei Ying had no idea how much of a bad mood Qilin Luse was currently in. His terrible mood was a result of playing the referee between Qilin Hao and Ji Wen. Ji Wen was especially rude and uncooperative with Qilin Hao which in turn led to fights breaking out between the two.
Qilin Hao would try and reason with him at first but when she lost her temper things would escalate and Qilin Luse would have to intervene and restore peace between the two.
In some instances, Qilin Hao would even go as far as accusing him of being biased whenever he took Ji Wen's side. Since she was his boss he was compelled to agree with her no matter how ridiculous she was being.
These two fought over everything from food to clothes which was outrageous. The reason they were fighting over trivial matters was that Qilin Hao would try to play the role of a good wife placing food in his bowl or try to talk him into wearing a robe that she just got tailored.
The hostage Ji Wen was non-compliant. He would refuse to have dinner with her or wear what she gave him. This often led to heated arguments and Ji Wen getting tied up and dragged to the dinner table. To sum it up, things weren't going well.
And in the middle of it all was Qilin Luse hence the bad mood. Hei Ying reached out and poked his face as he said, "You are about to be in an even worse mood."
Qilin Luse dodged his stray finger and gave him a fierce look. Hei Ying withdrew his finger and said, "Your little prince is up to no good. Would you like to tell her for me... I hurt my back when I fell from the sky and I won't be able to withstand a beating." As he said this he held his waist like a pregnant lady expressing how much pain his lower back was in.
Qilin Luse ignored him and turned on his heels to open the iron door. Hei Ying followed behind through the twists and turns of the corridors.
The longer they walked the quieter he became. It seemed he was now seriously lamenting the situation he was currently in. Qilin Hao was famous for taking it out on the messanger if she didn't like the news. Even Qilin Luse felt the end of that whip when he delivered the news that Ji Wen was looking for the keystones. Now that it was his turn to be the messanger and Qilin Hao was already in a terrible mood the result was obvious. He was going to get a good old fashioned ass whooping.
As he got quieter and quieter his palms became clammy. Rubbing them on his sides. He was obviously nervous but he would never admit to that. As though to confirm this point, Qilin Luse stopped in front of a sliding door at the end of the corridor and asked, "Nervous?"
"No..... what's there to be nervous about?" Hei Ying replied averting his gaze. His mouth was lying but his body was especially honest.
Qilin Luse handed him a handkerchief and asked, "Then why are your hands sweating so much?" with a raised brow that seemed to be taunting him. Qilin Luse didn't even give him an opportunity to respond sliding the door open before entering.
Hei Ying looked down at his palms which he was wiping and gulped. He followed behind Qilin Luse in hesitant steps. In front of them was a see-through crimson curtain and inside was a gorgeous lady sitting in front of a Kang table with a brush in her hand.
The movement of her hand was elegant and enchanting but there was an ever increasing roughness in the way she stroked the brush on the piece of paper. One could tell at a glance that she was very upset.
Frightened out of his mind, Hei Ying turned to leave but Qilin Luse turned him back by his collar and forced him to bow with him as he announced their presence. Qilin Hao didn't raise her head as she continued murdering that piece of paper.
