Chapter 250 - Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover

While he was absorbed in his thoughts the door was pushed open as a eunuch announced the arrival of Emperor Rui's subordinate. The subordinate kowtowed before him but before he could pass on his formal greetings to the emperor, Emperor Rui stopped him and told him to skip to the report.

The subordinate lifted his head slightly afraid even to make a sound. This man was incredibly ruthless. In front of his father, Emperor Yu, he slaughtered each of his siblings one by one with his own hands.

And when the former emperor tried to kill himself Emperor Rui forbade him restraining him on a cangue and making him watch on under heavy guard. He had gotten rid of everyone who used to serve Emperor Yu replacing them with his own people. This meant no one would take pity on him and pass on poison to kill himself.

If the new emperor could treat his own blood relation like that living their bodies on the court grounds to rot in public view then what more an insignificant servant sent to find information on Ji Yao. It was this fear that drove him to do his due diligence while finding out information about this pirate.

"This slave found out that he is looking for the keystones and currently possesses at least three of them..... He also captured a man who goes by the name Qilin Kai from Sheji mountains," he said before bowing his head again not daring to look into Emperor Rui's eyes.

He wasn't certain what sort of reaction the new emperor was going to have so he could only humbly kowtow and pray his ancestors to protect him.

The ladies who were serving Emperor Rui had also taken a few steps backwards as they didn't know whether the man's report would result in a major outburst like in previous incidences.

The new emperor would explode over the smallest of things. Anything and everything could be the short fuse required to light up an explosive fire.

But after waiting for one, two then three minutes the emperor remained silent. He wore a thoughtful expression while rubbing his lips with his index finger. Slowly an ominous smile crept up his face causing the people around him to cower in fear.

No one knew what his line of thought was neither were they interested to know. People have lost their lives for knowing too much so it was best they knew nothing.

Emperor Rui stood up from his throne and strode over to the man kowtowing on the ground. His green robe flittered as he got down the stairs with a sinister aura surrounding him.

Because the man had his forehead pressed to the floor he couldn't see what was happening but he could hear the loud clanking of the boots stepping on the tiled floor. His heart sank with each step Emperor Rui took.

He could almost see his life flash before his eyes. He knew it would be to his advantage if he stayed still but his body trembled out of fear and he couldn't do anything to stop it. He was like a man on death row silently awaiting his death.

Emperor Rui stood right in front of the man and used his foot to roll him over. The man limply turned over about to cry tears of blood. He was met by a pair of dark eyes that spelt death staring at him coldly.

The emperor crouch down before him and said, "What a loyal dog. You know it's pretty difficult to find good help these days..... Go find out where they are headed next then come back to inform me," lightly slapping the man's face a couple of times. The smile on his face grew wider and wider before he stood up surprisingly in a good mood.

Two hours later in the garden of the late empress dowager's pavilion, two figures one with a blackbird on his shoulder stood there with a tensed atmosphere between them. Qilin Luse had received a sound transmission from this mad man and could only come as it concerned Ji Yao.

Today's prince Rui was a little overly confident with a malicious air around him but Qilin Luse wasn't stirred. He stood there watching him with great impatience waiting for him to speak but it seemed Emperor Rui wasn't at all in a hurry.

"Shouldn't you kowtow before me? You served me for so many years and followed my orders respectfully over the years but now you can't even bow even though I am now the official ruler of this continent," he said with a smile that wasn't quite a smile.

Qilin Luse remembered those humiliating days but felt nothing. He was only following the orders of her highness and even then this idiot couldn't even complete the task assigned to him. Let's just say prince Rui was only alive today because her highness said so.

Seeing that Qilin Luse didn't respond Emperor Rui impatiently tapped his foot on the ground trying to hold himself back. He knew this man's strength and he was most likely to be defeated if they fought one on one.

His gaze shifted to the bird and said, "Ha! Did she demote you to a role as a bird keeper? Why not shift your allegiance to me.... I promise you can have whatever you want, do whatever you please instead of raising chickens."

The so-called chicken on Qilin Luse's shoulder, "...."

"This son of a bitch..... I am going to fuck you up," said the angry bird that is Hei Ying. You can insult his ancestors all you want but don't call him a chicken, duck or goose. Even calling him a crow might have you pecked to death.

In Niuq his clan was the legendary Kun Peng clan. His true form was that of a giant bird that could also transform into a monstrous fish. He could fly for six months straight without rest.

The only reason he didn't transform to his true form and opted for a blackbird was that he was so terrifying which would attract lots of attention while stalking the people assigned to him by her highness.

He could only stay like this and transform in emergencies. Thus when he was called a chicken it didn't settle well with him.

Emperor Rui seemed rather amused so he laughed mockingly further plucking the tiny bird's feathers. Qilin Luse could have diffused this situation but he wanted to teach this vile man a lesson so he let Hei Ying get angrier and angrier.

The bird jumped off Qilin Luse's shoulder and walked over with its butt swaying left to right like a model on a catwalk. It was beyond difficult to take Hei Ying seriously in this form.

"You wanna go ha big man? Do you want a piece of me, huh? Come on then let's go," said the bird skipping side to side like a boxer ready for a fight.

This emperor couldn't hold back laughing his ass off. What was he supposed to do? Roast him to death? He was in the mood for some chicken lately so why not?

But just as he selected the seraphic energy of flame origin in his body the little bird suddenly grew bigger in an instant and bellowed sending Emperor Rui flying.

This here folks is the perfect example of don't judge a book by its cover.
