Ji Yao rubbed his temple in annoyance. He could feel the great sense of guilt coming from her and didn't need to probe any further. The fact that she hurriedly went on the defence as soon as she saw him made her look even more suspicious.
The person she was guarding herself against was so smitten the previous night that he even forgot to mention what happened between him and Xiaoyu.
"Why would he do that?" asked Ji Yao curious to know what sort of excuse she will come up with.
Xiaoyu shifted a little closer with her eyes red and swollen from all the crying. She bit her lip that had deepened in colour from all the weeping. This tragic beauty appearance could arouse a desire to protect from all who saw it but Ji Yao was unaffected.
Seeing that his expression was unchanged she went straight to the point. If her face didn't move him then her words surely will. Nervously picking at her nails she said, "That person isn't Rui Fei. I witnessed it with my own eyes. The Yinying creature split in two and, and changed into Rui Fei. I,.... I tried to stop him but it strangled me. The only reason why I am not dead is because it was interrupted. Yao-ge, please believe me. That, that person in there is not Rui Fei."
Ji Yao raised a brow staring at her expressionlessly. He honestly couldn't believe she would take things this far. His father had spoiled this girl so much that she grew a tail so long that couldn't be cut off by regular means. She had the audacity to sit here and lie to him like he was a stupid person. She was like a toddler lying about raiding the snack cupboard while her face was covered in cookie crumbs.
Desperate to convince him and make Ji Yao believe her more than Rui Fei she continued, "Yao-ge, it is that monster wearing Rui Fei's skin. I am afraid, afraid the real Rui Fei is..... he is..... dead." The last part was said in such a low voice but everyone heard it.
"Who are you saying is dead?"
"Excuse me, can you repeat that?"
Both Rui Fei who had just entered the cabin and Ji Yao spoke at the same time. Xiaoyu's back stiffened as she nervously bit her lips.
Ji Yao raised his index finger gesturing to the agitated cub standing by the door to keep silent. "Can you say what you just said again because I think I didn't hear you well? You said I am afraid Rui Fei is what?"
This time Ji Yao's expression was no longer indifferent but livid. He knew there was tension between these two and he was the reason for it but Xiaoyu even went as far as lying that Rui Fei died on that island so how could Ji Yao take this well?
The four onlookers rightfully chose to stay in the peanut gallery. It was best to watch from the sidelines and see how this plays out. It was like watching a love drama mixed in with serious crimes. No one wanted to be the fourth wheel on this three-wheeler.
To prove this fact Xiaoyu nervously looked up at the four looking for some help but they avoided her turning their faces to the side as though whoever makes eye contact with her would be compelled to help her.
Rui Fei on the other hand was losing his mind. He had to resist the urge to walk over to her and finish off the job. If this skimming bitch stays on this ship tonight he can no longer guarantee her safety. Who knows? Maybe he might just happen to fall asleep tonight, sleepwalk to her cabin and happen to murder her in her sleep. Stuff like that does happen.
He clenched his fist so tightly with his nails painfully piercing through his skin but he didn't even feel the pain. All he could think about was whether Ji Yao would believe her or him.
"I,... he... he is an imposter. He is that creature. Yao-ge, don't be deceived by his looks," she stammered on digging her own grave a few inches deeper.
Ji Yao pressed his tongue against his cheek as he leaned backwards with a sardonic smile on his face. If Rui Fei was ever exchanged with an impostor he would most definitely be the first to know. In the entire ship, he can confidently say he knows Rui Fei best.
Rui Fei couldn't hold back any longer. He took a small step forward afraid that if he advanced any further he might lose his shit and beat Xiaoyu to death. With a look of contempt in his eyes he said to her, "If I had known you would say something like this I would have finished you off yesterday. You made a dubious deal with that creature and tried to steal the keystones from Yao-ge's cabin, all for what.....? Now you are sitting here playing the victim when you betrayed Yao-ge's trust. Seriously, who the fuck do you think you are, huh?"
"And the plot thickens," whispered Huishe Yue to Lan Wu. From his expression, one could tell that he was clearly enjoying this. The only thing missing was a packet of snacks for him to fully enjoy the show.
Since that was the case Lan Wu took out a small bag of melon seeds and gave them to Huishe Yue. The look of delight on his face was priceless making Lan Wu's heart melt into a puddle. It seemed he would rather look at Huishe Yue eat those seeds with revelry rather than watch this dog blood drama.
Ji Yao on the other hand almost flipped the table. He was eyeing Xiaoyu coldly like looking at a deep-seated enemy. The expressions on Lady Ching Sei and Zhang Li's faces also changed as they stared at her searchingly looking for the truth.
"Xiaoyu, is it true?" asked Lady Ching Sei who in a rare moment had received a slap in the face. Turns out the person she should have guarded against wasn't Rui Fei but Xiaoyu. Xiaoyu knew how important those keystones were to Ji Yao but she still made a deal with that vile creature. What was so important that she had to risk everything to get it?
"I I I didn't.... why would I do that? Why would I betray the love of my life? What he is saying doesn't make sense," she replied trying to remedy the situation.
"Oh for fuck's sake, it's because of that stupid potion it said would allow you to touch Yao-ge without him avoiding you. For that, you were willing to betray him and have me killed.." Rui Fei was cut throat and straight to the point. He was tired of seeing her face and just wanted to be alone with his Yao-ge so why not speed up the conviction?
