Xiaoyu was the so-called corpse with emerald hair that the fisherman had accidentally caught in his net. A lot had transpired after she got on that rowboat, from almost dying of dehydration to fighting a megalodon shark for the elixir that literally brought her downfall.
While drifting at sea and on the brink of death she saw that familiar crystal bottle, that the Yinying creature had lured her with causing her to betray Ji Yao, floating on the water surface. At first, she thought she was hallucinating but after rubbing her eyes several times she finally realised it was real.
It must have been blasted into the sea when the Yinying creature had been defeated but what were the chances that this crystal bottle would find her in the vast sea? Before she had little hope to be with Ji Yao but now she was certain that they were meant to be together.
Ecstatic, she jumped into the sea to grab the crystal bottle like it was her last saving straw. As she swam over she was laughing maniacally like she had lost her mind. This was the sign she needed, a sign that reignited her desire to live.
But as she reached out and grasped the crystal bottle she felt something brush past her feet making her curl up in fright. Her heart pounding hard against her chest she scanned her surroundings. But after looking around she saw nothing.
She slowly reached out to wipe the water off her face as her gaze landed on the crystal bottle that was swaying with the ripples of the calm sea. She swallowed her saliva and the saltiness from some of the seawater that had entered her mouth earlier caused a burning sensation down her throat.
Afraid the bottle would vanish she decisively swam towards it intending to rush back to the rowboat after that but who was she kidding? When had things ever been easy for her? As she swam over the creature underwater felt her movements and decided to do what came naturally.
A free meal had been presented to it ready for the taking. The universe was truly generous. As soon as Xiaoyu's hand clasped the bottle her body was suddenly pushed up from the water as she was tossed into the air.
Her hand holding the crystal bottle unconsciously loosened and she watched the one thing that could make her dreams come true fly up in the air out of her hand.
Panicked she swung her hands frantically trying to catch the crystal bottle. For a moment time froze. It was as though she and that bottle were the only things left in the world.
Her grim expression loosened when the tip of her finger touched that bottle but further darkened when she failed to catch it. That's when she heard a loud splash behind her. She slowly turned her head and within the big splash of water surrounded by huge droplets was a shark about eighteen meters in length give or take.
Xiaoyu's eyes widened as she reached the peak of her momentum. She paused mid-flight and the bottle she desperately wanted to catch fell on her chest before gravity took over and pulled her back down.
She swiftly put away the crystal bottle inside her robe as she turned her body around. Cursing Lady Ching Sei and her future generations for disabling her aether she narrowly missed the massive jaws of this primitive creature.
If her aether was functioning like it should she would have easily dealt with this creature but now she was as useless as a regular teenager.
Her body dove into the sea and she swam away underwater fleeing the gigantic shark but the waves from the shark crashing down into the rushing waters still propelled her forward a great distance.
When she resurfaced she was an arm's length away from her boat. Breathing heavily she held onto the gunwale of the boat as she wiped her face. She suddenly recalled the crystal bottle in her bosom and so felt up her chest to see if it was still there.
Heaving a huge sigh with a smile of relief she gathered all her strength and got back on the boat. After climbing back up with great difficulty she sprawled on the bottom boards looking up at the hot sun above her head.
Her eyes suddenly flashed a bright green colour as she lay there with her chest heaving. She took out the bottle and held it up to the bright sun. The sun rays refracted and reflected through the crystal bottle's contents and formed a rainbow in the liquid that closely resembled the milky way galaxy.
Xiaoyu smiled but her momentary joy was immediately squashed when she heard an explosive splash in the water that pushed her boat a few feet further. She put away her most prized possession as she hastily got up to her feet. From a short distance, she could see the ginormous fin travelling at an unfathomable speed shimmering under the sunlight.
It was headed straight for her tiny rowboat that was like an ant in the shark's eyes. Xiaoyu's eye twitched looking at this relentless enemy. Using her foot she broke one of the thwarts in the small boat and readied to defend herself. When the shark was approaching her broken boat she pursed her lips as she gathered her courage.
In two hesitant steps, she leapt off the boat and landed in the water falling right on top of the shark's head. The shark that had been travelling at torpedo speed was startled but it couldn't react fast enough.
Xiaoyu knew she had little time so she clenched her legs making sure to avoid the opened jaws of death. With a steady hold on the shark, she screamed as she plunged the wooden plank into the shark's eye.
She might not have her seraphic energy to help her but she wasn't a vegetarian after all. Years of following Ji Yao around had toughened her up. Recalling how Ji Yao would sometimes practice with her to defend herself without the help of her seraphic energy her actions paused.
The scene playing in her mind was that of the smiling face of Ji Yao when she fell into a mud pit after trying to punch him. She had come at him as instructed but he moved to the side and she lost her footing falling face-first into the mud pit.
She had sat up and wanted to complain but when she saw that unrestrained smile on his face she froze. That was the first time her heartbeat quickened like she was having a heart attack. No one else but her should have this person and she vowed to make sure of it.
The impatient shark that tried unsuccessfully to get rid of this human suddenly took a sharp turn and when Xiaoyu saw where it was headed she crazily stabbed the shark in the eye several times splattering crimson blood on her face blinding the ferocious beast in one eye.
