Chapter 421 - Overprotective Brother Mode

And why is that one might ask? It was because their captain had been gone for two whole days without a word and no one knew when he would come back.

Unlike the others, Rui Li and Rui Yewan were the most relaxed. They lazied around all day sipping on sweet iced tea courtesy of the chef while enjoying the view. One look at them and you could tell they were enjoying the finest things in life.

The ones who couldn't enjoy the same privileges stared at them with envious eyes. This chef didn't even make them sweet iced tea or delicious snacks. Not even Big Hei or Xunshi Zhe could enjoy this special treatment but these two could. Why was that?

The answer was simple... status. Because they were related to Rui Fei and technically the captain's in-laws they had an automatic pass to enjoy the full benefits. Even the best cabins other than the captains were given to them by Xunshi Zhe kicking out Zhang Li to share with others. If Rui Li hadn't refused and opted to share a cabin with Shuijing, Xunshi Zhe would have evicted her too.

This was just a glimpse of the benefits these two siblings had from the day they board Red Valkyrie. This undoubtedly led to some dissatisfaction among the young crew and Ji Yao's absence made it even worse.

As Rui Yewan and Rui Li leisurely lay in hammocks while sipping iced jasmine tea the crew stood at a corner whispering to themselves. From afar it looked like the gathering of a worker's union dissatisfied with management.

With his back leaning against the wall Zhang Ci said, "I also want iced tea and sweet cakes but that chef is so stingy... ah, when is Ah-Yao coming back? I can't stand it."

Xiao Yùnqì who looked like he had heard the funniest joke of the year said, "You actually have the balls to call Captain Ji that?"

"Hahaha no..... he only has the balls to say it when he is not around. I bet you he would never say it to the captain's face," replied Duan De earning himself a smack upside his head from Zhang Ci.

"That's not important. What we need to find out is where the captain is. If anything happens to him not only will the pirate king kill us but our captains as well," replied Xiao Lang recalling how his captain was a little infatuated with Ji Yao. This anomaly began when his captain questioned Ji Yao's leadership skills after Ji Wen was kidnapped.

At the time Ji Yao had unsheathed his sword and the tip of the blade cut Zhanglang's neck putting him in his place. After that Xiao Lang had noticed the unusual response his captain would have at the mention of Ji Yao's name. If anything were to happen to Ji Yao he was almost certain that his captain would kill him for failing at his task.

Shuijing who had been staring at Rui Li all this time suddenly said, "I will go ask her," but before she could take a step forward Zhang Ci grasped her arm. It was completely an unexpected reaction on his part but the way that boorish girl glared at him it was as though he had assaulted her.

He hastily let go of her and coughed lightly before saying, "You better not have any other thoughts. Her brothers are the overprotective sort and won't care that you are a girl."

Zhang Ci's words weren't without reason. Everyone knew that Shuijing lacked any interest in men and leaned towards the same sex. The way she had been staring at Rui Li ever since she met her was a little off hence the need to warn her.

"You are overthinking it," she said before striding towards Rui Li. As she passed Rui Yewan who was lying down his closed eyes suddenly opened watching her like a lioness watching a stranger approach her cub.

If she had any questions she could have asked him but she opted to ask Rui Li making him very ill at ease. Rui Li who had been sleeping with a book on her face felt someone approach her but because their seraphic energy wasn't as familiar she drew out her sabre and its sharp tip grazed Shuijing's neck.

When the sleepy haze left Rui Li's face she finally saw who it was. She withdrew her sabre and asked, "What is it," as she closed her eyes again as though going back to sleep.

Shuijing stood there rubbing her palms nervously with her lips pursed for a moment. She found the words she wanted to say were stuck in her throat unable to come out. Before she could say anything Rui Yewan stood up and said, "If you want to ask where Yao-ge is then the answer is no. Your seniors aren't worried so why should you?"

When he said this her gaze shifted to Xunshi Zhe and Big Hei who were immersed in their weird gambling game free of worries like Ji Yao wasn't missing. "See.... he is with my brother and as long as he is with him nothing will happen," continued Rui Yewan with his gaze shifting to the gang of trouble makers standing nearby.

When his menacing gaze shifted to their side they immediately looked away pretending to be busy. Rui Yewan chuckled before gently nudging Rui Li. Rui Li who didn't want to wake up grumbled shifting to the side.

"Li-er get up. If you want to sleep go sleep in my cabin," he said tapping her shoulder. He wasn't even comfortable letting Rui Li sleep in the same cabin as Shuijing fearing that his sister might get eaten. That look on Shuijing's face was two parts similar to the way Rui Fei eyed Ji Yao when they first met and guess what?

Now they were in the middle of who knows were doing stuff not suitable for young readers. That realization put him in protective brother mode at the snap of his finger.

"Uh.... so annoying. Can't I just sleep in peace," she murmured but before she could get up she felt a familiar presence close by. Jolting awake she looked into the sky and smiled, "Fei-ge is back. AAAAAHHHHHH and my sister in law."

"Pst, brother in law," corrected Rui Yewan. They didn't want to anger Ji Yao because of they did then Rui Fei might disown them.

An excited Rui Li closed her mouth but the excitement on her face was clearly written. "I thought they wouldn't be back for at least a week unless if something went wrong. I thought for sure brother in law wouldn't be able to stand up after..... mmmmm... mmm," said Rui Li her mouth covered by Rui Yewan.

"You better not say that to his face otherwise, we are both dead," he said before letting her go.

"Tsk..... I might need to give him more smutty novels to read," she whispered but Rui Yewan heard it. He seriously wished he could glue her mouth shut so she wouldn't speak such nonsense in front of the lovebirds. Her shamelessness seemed to have only gotten worse with age.
