This answer struck Rui Fei's heart like an ice pick had been stabbed through despite having anticipated it. He was extremely grateful that he knew how to alter his seraphic energy otherwise who knows if Ji Yao would have still kept him by his side. "Why..... why do you think that is?" asked Rui Fei weary of the answer. He didn't know which clan his mother belonged to but he knew it had everything to do with what was happening between him and Rui Fei.
Ji Yao shuffled to lay on his side till he was facing Rui Fei who was also looking at him from across the cabin. The sound of heavy rain battering against the window was disruptive but Ji Yao ignored it as he stretched out his hand producing a ball of lightning.
His gaze shifted to the ball of lightning dancing in his palm and said, "This is what I inherited from my father. My grandmother was from a clan known as Raiju. Our ancestor was known as the Shinto god of lightning...." The blue light from the sparks reflected in his eyes and as it died down a blazing inferno appeared on his palm.
The moment that flame appeared the calm Rui Fei suddenly lost himself engaging his aether without warning. Who knew what made him lose this much control despite having held back the past two times this happened?
In the blink of an eye, he was pinning Ji Yao down with his hand on his throat. Ji Yao was taken by surprise but his instincts kicked in instantly. With their Nocru instincts taking over the smell of gun powder permeated the air resulting in the inevitable.
Ji Yao felt his blood boil as his eyes flashed a menacing red colour. He engaged his aether and summoned his sword that usually showed up to the party despite not being invited. But this time his sword not only didn't show up but it also delayed appearing when he summoned it.
Even then the sword seemed to hesitate as it flew over like it was afraid of something. Before it even reached him, Rui Fei stretched out his free hand and a black fog drove the sword into the wall like a spear.
Seeing this Ji Yao gathered as much of his seraphic energy as possible and summoned a blazing flame shaped like javelins aimed at Rui Fei's back. But before they could even touch Rui Fei the flames were dispersed by a powerful force as Rui Fei tightened his grip on Ji Yao's neck.
Ji Yao accumulated a vicious ball of flame to strike Rui Fei's chest but in a plot twist, the boy grabbed his hand and the flames dispersed in an instant.
Ji Yao was thoroughly pinned down in place till he could barely move. Like an explosive volcano, he erupted as the Qilin blood raged on in desperation. It urged him to cut down the enemy but the so-called enemy was a whole lot stronger than himself.
Just when he thought it was game over, Rui Fei's eyes returned to their usual calmness and he collapsed on top of Ji Yao. All that burst of seraphic energy had vanished and the tension in the air had disappeared.
Ji Yao retracted his hostile energy breathing heavily. He hadn't thought something like this would happen. He was simply trying to explain to Rui Fei about his mother's bloodline but who would have thought this brat would unleash the beast from its shackles and attack him?
Whatever clan Rui Fei's mother belonged to must have bad beef with his mother's clan otherwise how could one explain this kind of violent response?
His line of sight fell on Rui Fei's head that was buried in his neck as he heaved a sigh. He couldn't help but wonder if Rui Fei hadn't passed out would they have fought to the death.
Ji Yao struggled to get off from under Rui Fei. The boy wasn't buff or anything like that but he was so heavy. It was like his entire body was being pressed down by a boulder. Using a great amount of force he finally freed himself but because of inertia, he hit the floor with a loud thud.
"Fuck!" he swore as he crawled up from the floor. It was then he felt an insurmountable pain coming from his neck.
He stumbled to the bronze mirror near the bookshelf to take a look. Ji Yao drew in a cold breath of air scrutinizing that bruise and obvious handprint around his neck. He sneered as he eyed the culprit coldly before opening a healing elixir to reduce the swelling.
While applying the elixir he caught sight of his sword stuck in the wall and felt a little upset. This useless thing was an eager beaver in front of the concord but in front of Rui Fei, it was like a toothpick. He walked over to the sword and pulled it out of the wall with a contemptuous look.
The sword trembled in his hand as he said, "My sabre wouldn't run from a fight," before sheathing it. The sword didn't dare make any movement after that. Who could blame it? It was forged with the spirit of a Qilin ancestor and was also terrified of the Huishe. Rui Fei was really terrifying.
Ji Yao set the sword aside and decided not to move Rui Fei. He covered him with the quilt vowing to do something about this. Each time they activated their aether they became natural enemies and that wasn't a good thing especially when they decided to travel together. They had to learn to be tolerant of each other when they engage their aether otherwise they would fight each other till one of them dies.
Ji Yao walked out of his cabin after he was done tucking Rui Fei in bed. He decided to spend the night in the captain's cabin otherwise who knows if this brat would wake up in the middle of the night and finish the job?
Since he didn't feel like sleeping he took the keystone with him to the poop deck. It was still raining but since he activated a shield around him he didn't get wet. Unbothered by the rough weather he released a little of his seraphic energy and the keystone was suddenly surrounded by flames as it hovered mid-air.
He closed his eyes as the Qilin energy flowed in his aetherial veins, exiting through his hands then into the keystone before re-entering his body through his forehead completing a circuit. "Origato ve persvek," he spoke in the language of the Nocru that he himself didn't even know how to speak.
It was as though his body had been taken over by something. When he opened his eyes they were as red as sapphire glowing in the dark. If anyone had seen this sight they would have been scared shitless. Ji Yao was terrifying enough before and now... he was petrifying.. The sort of scary that could send one's soul away on a permanent vacation.
