Rui Fei peeked inside the sliced up belly of the half-beast before looking at the person beside him with a glance that seemed to say, 'please spare me'.
The two of them stared at each other like this for a good minute and of course, it was Ji Yao who was forced to yield. Who could resist such watery eyes blossoming like a lotus flower in the morning?
He reached out with a handkerchief to dig into the carcass his face serious like he was performing surgery. Just as his fingers were about to touch the half-beast, Rui Fei grasped his wrist to stop him.
Like he said to himself before, Ji Yao's hands were too clean to touch such filthy things. And just like a soon to be henpecked husband he reached his hand inside the carcass before Ji Yao could stop him and searched around.
He could handle the level of grossness but because he is the ultimate opportunist he sold misery to his benefactor touching at Ji Yao heartstrings. This celestial level of manipulation could only be mastered by someone like him.
Wearing a grave expression he quickly felt around with half-lidded eyes and a creased brow. Thinking he had found what he was looking for he took out something squishy and showed it to Ji Yao while closing his eyes like he was grossed out.
Ji Yao stared at his tightly shut eyes and almost smacked him upside his head. How does a liver look or even remotely feel like an aether? It seemed he had to tutor him on anatomy just in case he embarrasses himself in front of a crowd next time. Ji Yao had completely missed one important point which is 'where on earth would Rui Fei have to butcher a beast in front of a crowd?'
Since Ji Yao didn't respond to his question Rui Fei had no other choice but to open his eyes only to be met by an expression that seemed to ask, 'Are you an idiot?' It was then Rui Fei looked down and saw what he was holding. For a person who liked to eat meat, this was very embarrassing.
He randomly flung the piece of meat away only to have it hit an innocent bystander's face. Huishe Yue who had simply been worried about his nephew was rewarded by a smelly piece of liver on his face. He shook his head and the liver slid off and fell to the ground with a splat.
Some of the blood from the organ got on his mouth that he began to spit it out while scolding the two. "Ptui, ptui... what the fuck are you two ptui ptui doing?" he said wondering why these two were playing operation in the middle of all this chaos.
Ji Yao felt bad seeing his face like that. He could relate and understand that this wasn't a pleasant experience so he stood up and handed him a handkerchief but before he could even give it to him Rui Fei confiscated it and reassured him, "He is fine. You can give it to me. Yao-ge, how many handkerchiefs do you actually have?" Is it like a year's worth supply?"
Huishe Yue, "....."
"You brat," he said bleeding internally from being hurt by his own twin sister's child. His sister was sunny and bright which meant this terrible personality and little respect for elders definitely came from Rui Fei's father's side.
Sadly for Huishe Yue the more he spoke the more that blood got into his mouth. He seemed to have realised it and stopped talking. He carried on spitting while thinking, 'Ji Yao get hold of your man.'
For sure, Ji Yao was on top of things. He grabbed the handkerchief back and gave him a reprehensive look as he murmured, "Relax, I haven't used it." Ever since he learnt the truth he had started noticing Rui Fei's possessive behaviour that he had overlooked before. This boy wasn't keen on sharing and not just anything but everything to do with him (Ji Yao). He could already foresee vinegar spilling over from the jar for the littlest of things.
His words didn't do anything to soothe Rui Fei. His expression was so dark you would think his uncle was planning on stealing his sweetheart. Huishe Yue could understand Rui Fei a little. It was in their nature to be possessive but in Rui Fei's case, it was a little over the top.
Even the great Huishe King wasn't this possessive of their mother. If anyone so much as looks at Ji Yao in a certain type of way Rui Fei would react strongly.
Unwilling to pick a fight with this impulsive cub, Huishe Yue refused his offer as he took out a waterskin to wash his face. Rui Fei had a smirk on his face obviously pleased with himself. As soon as Ji Yao turned around that smirk vanished like it was never there and he said, "I told you he is fine."
Ji Yao, "....."
Never mind, one shouldn't argue with crazy people otherwise they will also be classified as crazy. Ji Yao pointed at the carcass and asked, "Keep looking." Rui Fei obediently crouched down and began to feel around again. This time he found it but it was so tiny and dead that one would think it was a shrivelled up grape.
This was obviously not what a normal aether should look like. This person created an aether possibly through a medium and injected his seraphic energy into these creatures to control and see through them.
His reasons for doing this were unknown but his mental health was questionable. Ji Yao passed the aether to Huishe Yue before passing the handkerchief in his hand to Rui Fei but the boy stopped him before robbing his uncle of the waterskin he had and used it to wash his hands clean before turning to Ji Yao.
"Oh, okay. Now I see what's going on here. I can't use what Ji Yao gives me but you can take stuff from me? Wow, just wow!" said Huishe Yue but Rui Fei acted like he hadn't heard it.
When it came to his uncle Rui Fei had partial hearing. It was intentional especially when Ji Yao was around. He was so smitten that he couldn't think straight let alone hear his uncle's words.
