"Oh, this is interesting. I didn't know that the Zeros favor pets."
Jian Yu didn't correct the man standing beside the examining table as he was still staring off into space in the infirmary of the stadium they were in.
He felt giddy when he thought about what happened in the waiting room. Jian Yu softly touched his lips, caressing them. His lips tingle where Zeke had kissed him and the Beta couldn't help but wet his lips, licking like he was trying to chase after the taste left over them.
But none of it could bury the worry he felt for the Alpha and he was probably only nodding along with what Dr. Liam was saying because he was slightly worried about a completely different matter.
The black-haired Alpha; namely Zeke Roderick, told him that he would be totally fine during his rut, but Jian Yu knew otherwise.
Spending a rut or a heat alone was a torture to one, and that was exactly how Zeke wanted to spend his. How did he know about that? During his stay with Clement, he was the one in charge of the Lady's matter, personal or not.
He was even the one hiring Omegas for her. Imagine his surprise when he saw a certain blonde Omega's name, which Clement scrunched her face in disgust when he brought it up.
Jian Yu heaved out a heavy and frustrated sigh. The Alpha even told the silverette not to seek him for the time being.
"I'm sorry, I might be able to help with twisted or dislocated bones, but this one seemed to have the bone in his hind leg fractured." Dr. Liam stepped back, giving Z some space when it started whining. "Going to a veterinarian is the best choice, after all."
Jian Yu, who finally snapped out of his thoughts, hurried over to the black pup's side, coaxing and calming it down with his pheromones.
Above him, the face of Dr. Liam twitched just slightly before he pinched the bridge of his nose as if trying to tighten the medical mask he wore.
Jian Yu was too busy with the little wolf to notice such a thing. The black pup was pawing in the air with its front paw and huffing.
Z was giving him a look with those bright golden eyes that told the Beta how unhappy he was at the moment for being awoken from his best sleep, but was momentarily distracted and mortified by a scratch behind the ears.
The Beta heard a sigh and a question. "So… how old is he?"
"Three to four months…" Jian Yu hesitated, his voice raised in the end in uncertainty, before finishing with a lame tone, "I guess."
The silverette took a look at the pup and poke its snout, receiving multiple licks instead. It really made Jian Yu wonder if it really was a wolf or a pet dog because it didn't act like a predator.
It was more like a small puppy rolling around and asking for belly rubs. But that didn't mean Jian Yu would let his guard down and be fooled thinking that there was a tamed animal here, no matter how spoiled it was acting right now.
Z had yet to grow up and one would always succumb to its nature, sooner or later. That was just how the world worked.
"There are many patients in need of attention, so I will replace the bandages right away and leave the rest to you, how does that sound?"
Dr. Liam reached out to slowly unpeel the bandages Jian Yu wrapped before. He worked silently and the Beta wanted to whistle at how expertly he moved and did his job. Even Z seemed to agree with him as it hardly put up any fuss, only a nervous twitch on his tail every once in a while.
"Are you the one doing his bandages before?" Dr. Liam didn't even take a glance at the young beta when he spoke.
"Uhh… Yes, I did that."
The doctor hummed. He still hasn't looked at the Beta at all, his hands working on reapplying the bandages. "You haven't lost your touch at all. It looked quite sturdy if I recall."
Dr. Liam said it so casually that Jian Yu almost agreed to it until he realized how out of place it was supposed to be. He said it like he knew Jian Yu was able to do it in the first place-- How--
"Wait-- what?"
The brown-haired man turned to the desk on the side without answering him. He pulled out a sheet and pen before scribbling on it.
"Here, this is the best veterinarian in town, I recommend him for," The doctor tilted his head to the side, pointing at the pup with his chin. "Lady Clement's pet."
Jian Yu gaped. "W-- what did you mean by that?"
Dr. Liam cocked his head to the side, lips pursued in thought before scolding Jian Yu like he was being too dumb to catch on. "Oh my, you are getting slow. It's my recommendation. There's no need to worry, I always give the best to my client. Here, take it."
"No, not that…!" When the slip of paper was thrusted into his hand, Jian Yu fumbled about before finally getting a grip on it.
The older man didn't even let Jian Yu continue as he brought a spray out, shaking it a few times before directing it in Jian Yu's face and sprayed it.
"What? What is that?" Jian Yu shielded his face, but was unable to stop himself from inhaling it and ended up coughing when a familiar stinging smell hit his nose.
Dr. Liam was already at the door and stepping out of his office to the other's patient room when he heard the question.
"Disinfectant, next time don't come near me when you reek of Alphas. It's nauseating."
Jian Yu had seen the doctor a few times, multiple times truthfully, but only today, did he finally see a very different side of Dr. Liam.
And it somehow chilled him to the bone.
