63 Is He Attractive?

It took Mia and Tarou two days to reach the gates of the capital. It was a bumpy ride and they had to thank the donkey for being naughty enough to make convenient stops at places with the most fragrant meals.

The farmer was not thrilled about the animal's behavior. And this made the donkey even more determined to find the most expensive restaurants to make a stop.

Mina and Tarou couldn't complain about it either. The vicious mouse, in particular, was having the time of his life sneaking into the restaurants to sample different food varieties.

As the familiar scene in the capital greeted them, the donkey couldn't help but strike a conversation with his charges.

"We're delivering hay to a manor owned by some old man from a kingdom called Covin. Where do you have to go?"

Hearing the donkey making a friendly sound, the farmer couldn't help but look to the left and the right. Mina was also curious about the donkey's destination.

'Could it be possible?'

Before Mina could reply, Tarou quickly squeaked back his answers.

"We're headed on a manor. An atrocious horse named Nightmare lives there. That's the most notable thing about that place."

"Nightmare? One proud horse who groans at everyone with disdain?"

The donkey didn't hide his feelings while grunting and speeding up slightly. The farmer had to hold on tightly due to the donkey's sudden change in speed. But, his demeanor became more relaxed after the animal's small tantrum.

Tarou squeaked in agreement and the donkey groaned in reply.

"We're headed to that place."

Mina's ears instantly stood up. She has been paying more attention to the farmer than the donkey's grunting but when she heard where they were headed, she felt weird.

It was too much of a coincidence!

'Could the collar have something to do with it?'

She was about to touch the item when Mina realized she knew the answer.

The collar had nothing to do with it. The collar will only affect her ability, not the circumstances around her.

'How did I even know that?'

Halfway through thinking about it, she knew the answer — again.

It's the collar.

Annoyed at the collar's sarcastic comeback, Mina couldn't help but react fiercely. Tarou who continued to torch Nightmare while making him like some evil creature in front of the donkey was shocked when she meowed with ferocity.

Tarou immediately stopped squeaking and retreated to the far side of the cart while eyeing her with caution. The mouse probably thought he was becoming too irritating for her.

When they heard music playing and the sound of people milling around, Tarou immediately found a place to observe the outside world. The mouse may not see anything the way she could but he was the best spy when ferreting information.

Mina, on the other hand, knew she had to hide under the hay. She was not exactly welcome in this place and even if she wanted to see what was happening, she had to be quiet down and wait for Tarou's report.

As the cart continued to move outside of the festive area, Tarou retreated back inside the cart and ran towards her.

"Hey, Boss! Did you hear those humans --there's going to be a big celebration at the end of the month."

Mina stretched and stared at the mouse, prompting him to continue although she had no idea exactly the celebration will be.

When was the last time she checked the date in this place?

No. She never even bothered to track dates after she arrived.

Why would it even matter to a cat like her?

Breaking out of her inner musings, she stared at Tarou who was now shifting his weight from one paw to another in excitement.

"All the dignitaries from the Kingdoms in Artha will gather here."

Looking outside towards the direction from where they left, Tarou squeaked in disbelief.

"Those ladies right there are trying to fight over who buys the best cloth to make new clothes. They said they could count the number of handsome guys here with one hand."

Mina couldn't help but wince when she heard Tarou's report.

'Seriously, aside from food, this mouse is the best when it comes to gossip.'

'I had no idea there was a lack of good-looking men in this place.'

Tarou continued to squeak, excited to share more information he heard while gossipping. She barely listened as Tarou told her about which lady had the highest chance of catching an eligible man.

Mina couldn't help but take a peek at the scenery when she realized that they were entering an area which didn't have much activity. She was about to continue observing the way when Tarou's report caught her attention.

"They're also hoping to catch the General's attention, by that I think they're referring to your human. That human is too cold, is that kind of person attractive to ladies. I bet my hu..."

Tarou's squeaking stopped abruptly and Mina couldn't help but look down on the mouse who seems to have bitten his tongue.

Realizing that the cat gave him an interesting look, Tarou scratched the fur behind his ears and started to shift faster between his feet.

"Uhm..." the squeak was tentative at first and Mina was becoming more curious what nonsense the mouse was going to say next.

"Boss, since you like men so much, do you think the general is attractive?"

Mina looked at Tarou earnestly.

'Where was this question coming from.'

'This gossipmonger!'

Before she could warn Tarou, the collar felt tighter around her neck as if begging for her attention. She became too distracted with the sensation that she stopped what she was about to say and paid attention to the latest transmission from the collar.

'The Network allows agents to fall in love.'

Mina cringed when she realized what the collar just told her.

'I don't even have plans to attract that man! How dare you make assumptions.'

'Who knows how that man actually looks like?'

It's not like she had a thorough look at him. Her cat eyes were no good. But after all the gossip she heard, she started to become really curious.

"Seriously, underling," she meowed with sincerity, "I have no idea."

They were now on the path towards the manor and Mina had a glint of mischief in her eyes as she stared at Tarou who was looking at her with curiosity.

"But, we're about to find out."
