While Mastermo was busy trying his best to capture a hybrid dog, Li Ling was busy trying to get Zhihao's father to not kill him.
With the glares that he had received today, he was thankful that the man didn't have contacts to the underworld cause, in that case, Li Ling really would have ended up dead in a ditch somewhere.
"If we aren't even allowed to make any decisions or get notified about the decisions you make, why does this board even exist? Are we just figureheads here?! " A man yelled out in frustration catching Li Ling's attention.
Li Ling had been so focused on Zhihao's father that he didn't even notice the other people who sat in the room.
If the other board members were to know that they were thoroughly ignored, they would have been angry enough to choke up blood.
Now that Li Ling noticed the existence of the other board members, he let his eyes scan the room to see if there was anyone important enough for him to remember the name of, but he was disappointed to see that Huang Zhi Qiang and his secretary Wu Feng Xin were the only ones who were worthy of being remembered.
The reason they were important was self-apparent. It was because one was the father of the man he had been interested in and the other was the man's secretary.
The man who had suddenly spoken up was someone Li Ling had seen before, but he had never bothered to learn the name of the man since he didn't particularly like the man's nature. Li Ling was a great judge of characters and maybe that's why he was able to see that this board was filled with members who were money-hungry and didn't care about the game at all.
Li Ling didn't like most of these people, but he still needed to work together with them. It was fine as long as they just stayed silent but these people just had to open their mouths and let their money-grubbing nature show in front of him.
"This is just too ridiculous." The man spoke up and it made Li Ling smirk, but it wasn't that apparent and was hardly noticed by anyone, "What if you make another decision like this without our permission and we suffer through more losses?"
"Have you never suffered losses before this?" Li Ling asked coldly, "Why should we need your permission if it was already stated since the beginning that the Gamemaster holds all the decision making authority."
Xia decided that it was the perfect time for him to speak up for his boss, "Mr. Chen Jiahao, calm down and hear us out too."
Li Ling suddenly found that the man who was barking so much was called Chen Jiahao and he mentally noted the name down so that he can dig up some dirt on the man who sounded so righteous as if he were a victim.
Chen Jiahao looked at Xia and his expression seemed to get softer as if all of his anger had been aimed at Li Ling alone and he preferred this assistant of his more than Li Ling.
"What do you have to say? I think your boss has said enough."
Li Ling slammed his hand against the table and it made everyone go silent as they looked at the man with a bit of shock in their eyes.
"Ah! Sorry," Li Ling apologized for slamming the table, "It was a fly."
It was a blatant lie and only a fool would not be able to see through it. Li Ling brushed the table twice as if he were wiping away the remains of the nonexistent fly.
There was no way a fly would be able to enter this air-conditioned sound-proof room.
Xia's expression looked calm as always but he was trying his best to hold himself back from laughing at the man's actions and words.
This was Li Ling's way of saying he wasn't too pleased to hear people questioning him.
With everyone going silent, Xia was able to complete what he had originally wanted to say.
"If the losses are the problem, we can show you the statistics. There would be more decisions made in the future that may make players leave the game."
Chen Jiahao didn't seem to get Li Ling's warning as he spoke up with an agitated expression, "So more loses?"
Li Ling decided to speak up at this moment, "Let the man speak."
Chen Jiahao was probably way more than twenty years older than this man, but when his eyes met the glaring eyes of the youth, he felt his heart go still in fear. He tried his best not to seem intimidated, but everyone could see the truth.
Li Ling was like a ray of warm sunshine most of the time when he was in a pleasant mood, but Xia knew the man well to know that if he were to be angered, he was like the blazing sun that was ever ready to kill with its intensity alone.
If someone were to see Li Ling angry and not be afraid, the person was qualified to be called brave. Xia had never seen anyone be unafraid of Li Ling when he was angry, so when he saw the scared expression on Chen Jiahao's face, he wasn't surprised at all.
Xia took this silence as an indication for him to continue speaking, "Since we are already here, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce our next plan."
Huang Zhi Qiang looked confused as he heard this, "Next plan?"
Li Ling smiled warmly at the man as he spoke, "I'm sure you'll love this one, uncle."
His behavior with Zhihao's father and Chen Jiahao was so different that it was apparent to everyone present who was favored and who wasn't. They didn't know the connection between Li Ling and Zhihao so when they saw Li Ling favoring this man, they were all sure that it was because of the money. Who didn't know how rich this man was? He was rich enough to buy Omelas so of course, Li Ling would suck up to him.
Omelas was the product of Li Ling's hard work. A company that started from nothing and stood at a place today where no other gaming company could compare. It was at the top and yet it was too easy for Huang Zhi Qiang to buy it so of course, Li Ling would want to favor this man. How could anyone else in this board meeting compare to such a man?
Xia took out his tablet and connected it with the screen in front of them.
Everyone had their eyes glued to the screen as they saw a man displayed on it.
Of course, they all recognized the man. It was the Gamemaster who looked a lot like Li Ling but everyone was still able to tell them apart. They knew that this wasn't the real appearance of the Gamemaster.
Normal players were able to keep their original appearance in the game and beta players were able to change their appearance as they pleased. Since the Gamemaster was also seen as a beta player by the system, he was also able to alter his character's appearance, making it look like Li Ling a bit or so, everyone thought.
They had never met the real Gamemaster and so they had only ever known this face of the man. Some had guessed the Gamemaster to be super ugly. Maybe he was an old ugly man who was too afraid to show his face in public. Although these negative rumors existed, along with them existed positive ones as well. Some said that the Gamemaster is a beautiful girl and Li Ling is actually her boyfriend while others said that the Gamemaster is too handsome for this world so he hides his face to save himself from being pranced at by suitors, both male and female.
When the video started playing on the screen, the lights went off automatically to give the people a better view of the screen.
"How are you all?" The Gamemaster asked in his usual electronic voice that everyone had gotten used to.
This was a pre-recorded message so there was no way the man was looking for the people to answer the question and everyone already knew this so no one said anything and their ugly expressions didn't change as they heard the man.
Li Ling, however, smiled as he saw the screen.
"I'm sure you are all very angered."
Chen Jiahao rolled his eyes as he scowled, "If you knew we'd be angered, why would you do it?"
Everyone heard the man, but no one paid him any attention and acted as if he were just the background noise that needed to be ignored.
The Gamemaster wasn't able to hear him and naturally completed what he was saying without any interruption.
"I assure you, the losses are only a sacrifice for a greater future."
"A revolution."
