Chapter 169 - Friendly Peck

Before Jade and Jake drove off they didn't see the two pairs of eyes which has been staring at them. One was filled with curiosity, while the other was filled so much anger and animosity.

It was Cale and Stephanie.

Cale's eyes were glued to the hand holding Jade's hands . He loathed the way that guy was looking at his woman, and Jade just stood there and letting him hold her. The nerve of that guy.

He had the urge to go over and put a stop to that madness. Jade was his woman and only he had the right to hold her or look at her in that manner. It took him all he had to refrain himself from walking over, especially not after Jake had threatened him. He remembered Jake as the guy who had butted into his and Jade's affair, yesterday. Looking at the guy's demeanour, his clothes and most especially his car he knew this guy was probably rich and he wasn't someone to be trifled with.

He had to do something immediately, before Jade was completely snatched away from him. As a guy he understood the look in Jake's eyes, maybe Jade wasn't aware of it, he could very well see it. He was going to stop this before things got out of hand. He was going to have his mother come talk to her by tomorrow. He's going to get his woman back.

Stephanie on the other hand, didn't know what to make of the scene she had seen, between Jade and that awkwardly familiar man. They were both holding hands and standing so close to each other. She had spotted them as soon as she drove out from the company's underground park.

'Seems Jade has found herself another new catch' She thought to herself. And she must say it's an upgrade from the loser, Cale Stuart, she had to steal from her.

Something seems to be going on between them and she has to find out what. If there was anything special between them, then she would be more than happy to have Jade watch her take another man away from her. She was going to look into this new development. Jade was never going to get any form of happiness as long as she is alive.

In this life whatever Jade wants she'll take, and that was a moto she's so keen on living by.

Jade kept stealing glances at Jake as they drove to Amy's place. Even when they had both gone to get the nachos, she kept looking at him.

"Do you find me that handsome?" Jake teased when he couldn't keep silent anymore. Jade's gaze on him was becoming unbearable.

Jade scoffed, "You wish"

"So you're saying I'm not handsome?" He glanced at her cocking a brow. "Are you?" He pressed, teasing her with a smile.

"Jake you're driving!" Jade scolded with a frown. Jake hissed and returned his attention back to the road.

"You're no fun"

Jade didn't bother herself with him, she had alot on her mind, she was yet to come to a conclusion if she was actually growing feelings for her friend. She rolled her eyes and looked outside the window.

Jake took a quick look at her, he also had a million thoughts running through his mind as he stared at her. Thoughts of how he was going to make his feelings known to her. He didn't know how to go about it. He hasn't done anything of that sort before. And from the way Jade was right now, he didn't think now was the best time to do that.

He sighed inwardly. He definitely has to go on another online research on how to make his feelings known. It was going to be stressful, but seeing the girl sitted beside him, he knew she was worth all the trouble and more.

"How's your wrist?" He asked when the car became too silent. Jade was too quiet today. She turned to look at him before looking down at her hand. She has completely forgotten about her hand.

"It's fine. The ointment was very effective" She replied.

"Is he still bothering you?" Jake asked curiously. He discovered he had no idea what Jade's past relationships were like. He for one haven't been in a relationship before, but he sure had a terrible history with women. One he was sure would put Jade to flight if she comes to know them.

"Cale?" She asked.

"That's his name?"

"Yes. Well he didn't show his face today and I'm grateful for that" Jade replied.

"Better. If he ever bothers you again don't hesitate to tell me" Jake told her, taking a quick look at her.

"And what do you intend to do if he does?" Jade asked out of curiosity, even though she knew there was no need for Jake getting involved with the tiff between her and Cale, and she was sure she wasn't going to tell him anything if Cale harrasses her again. She can take care of one Cale all by herself.

"Get him out of that company so you don't get to see him again, and if they refuse to let him go, I'll purchase Xenox and then I'll get him out of your hair" Jake shrugged casually. He wasn't going to give anyone the chance to harrass her not even an ex-boyfriend.

Jade looked at Jake intentely as he spoke. From the firm and intense look on his face, she was sure that Jake was been serious at the moment. He was going to purchase Xenox just to get rid of Cale for her? Why?

"Why?" She couldn't help herself but ask out.

Jake snapped his head over to her. "Why I want to get rid of him for you?" Jake asked.

"Yes" She nodded.

"Because..."Jake paused and looked at her. Maybe he should say because he has fallen in love with her and he wanted to protect her, especially from peasants like her ex-boyfriend. But rather he said, "Because that's what a good friend should do. I don't mind doing anything for a friend"

And not because there was a possibility that he likes her, just the way she was discovering she might like him? She didn't know why, she felt kind of disappointed. She must be the only one having this silly and stupid feelings. But despite that she still felt grateful towards Jakes concern for her.

Jade lowered her eyes and muttered softly "Thank you"

"Why are you thanking me?"

"For being a good friend and for wanting the best for me" She was feeling really grateful for the kind of friends God had blessed her with. Though she and Jake had a rough start, she was feeling grateful for having him as a friend.

"You don't have to thank me"

Jade didn't say anything else till they arrived Amy's house. Jade packed up her stuffs as she got ready to alight the car, when Jake suddenly held her arm to stop her, causing her eyes to fly towards Jake. His hand on her arms was giving her goosebumps.

"Jade" He called softly.

"Hmm" Her eyes were boring into his, the emotions she was feeling right now were indescribable.

Jake could hear his heart thumping hard against his chest and alarms were blaring in his head warning him not to attempt what he was about to do, but he found himself not listening to all the warnings.

He leaned towards Jade and placed a kiss on her cheek, before saying "Good night" in the softest tone ever.

Jade was shocked out of her mind, her eyes were widened and it looked as if she has stopped breathing, her heart must have stopped or something.

"Jade?" Jake called out when he saw her reaction, his tremored with fear. He was regretting his actions. He had done that on impulse.

Jade continued to look at him, she opened her mouth to ask him why he did that, when she heard her someone call her name, " Jade?" It was Lair.

Jade looked ahead and saw Lair staring at the both of them.

"Good night" Was all she said to Jake before hopping out of the car.

Jake watched her with longing eyes as she sauntered over to Lair. He kept watching till they both walked into the house.

Did he make a mistake by kissing her?

"Our little miss is now hooking up with a guy huh?" Lair teased the moment Jade walked closer to him.

"Good evening to you too" Jade greeted dismissively.

"Ha, so that's how it's now right? I catch you kissing a guy and you're not going to say anything?" Lair nudged her by the side. Jade's face colored when Lair said the word kiss. She still didn't understand why Jake had suddenly done that.

He hasn't done that before.

"It wasn't a kiss, it was a friendly peck" She said defending herself.

"Really? Then come I should give one too. It seems you like friendly pecks, wood pecker" Lair teased as he drew closer to her with his pouted lips.

"You're crazy Lair Walker, go peck some cadavers" Jade cussed jokingly before sprinting up the stairs to Amy's room.

"I'll get you for that Jade Peterson"
