268 Song Jia's Old Room

She gently placed the blankets back and left the room with her grandfather to head downstairs, when he suddenly paused in front of the door of the adjacent room. "I am sure you want to take a look at this too."

He gently pushed the knob to unlock the door and the room opened. Song Jia continued standing at the door, feeling slightly hesitant to walk in, but with her grandfather's cajoling, she finally entered.

It was a very spacious room— the second largest in the mansion after the master bedroom which was also Song Chen's room. The walls were painted in lilac which had some stars and other girly patterns painted here and there on them.

There was a white sofa set placed in the right-hand corner of the room with a black table in the center. On top of it was a glass bowl that had some candies in it. She didn't have to look closely to know that they used to be her favorite candies during her teenage years. Judging from the packing, they were recently placed here.

Her gaze then moved to the bed which was neatly made and in between the pillows, there was a huge cream color teddy bear placed against the headboard. It was a teddy bear that her mother had bought for her and she had never kept it away from her as a child. But when she moved to Wave Manor after coming back from the U.S, she had left it here because she was angry with not only Song Chen but also her mother for leaving her. If not for her, then none of what happened would have happened in the first place, right? She felt some sort of heaviness entering her heart which then covered her entire body, making her eyes teary.

Holding back her emotions she entered the walk-in closet in the room and a drop of tear slid down her cheeks when she saw it filled with dresses from all of her favorite brands.

Her feet then took her to the balcony to see a glossy black swing chair with a red cushion seat still hanging there, with not even a speck of dust on it. The table in front of it had three comics placed on it that she had been very fond of reading, and all were the latest edition. When she was young, she would never miss even a single comics from the series and her favorite place to read them was this balcony, where she could just lean on the swing and read as much as she wanted to.

In the corner of the balcony, she saw five potted plants that looked neatly trimmed and recently watered. Astonished she came back inside the room and saw Song Guang standing on the same spot where previously was.

"Grandpa, this... Is someone living here?"

Song Jia who was even though surprised, was still silent, not quite sure about how to answer. She had only forgiven Song Chen and had started calling him 'dad' out of courtesy but had still not accepted him as her father. Old scars don't fade so easily after all and Song Guang understood that very well.

"I am glad that you have finally decided to put your differences aside but I also know that your relationship is nowhere close to what a father and daughter usually have. But Xiao Jia believe me, no matter what mistakes he made, he has always loved you and is sincerely apologetic."

Song Jia, who had her head slightly bowed, nodded it before lifting it to meet Song Guang's gaze. "I know grandpa, but..."

"Hais child! It's okay, you don't have to explain anything to me. Take your time and do what you feel is right. Now come, let's head down for breakfast."

With that, they both left the room after closing the door behind them.

...

The dining table was spread out with various western dishes today. Song Guang was not fond of western food and hardly ate it, but today he had got people to prepare it especially because Song Jia liked to eat western food. Ranging from bacon to toasts, scrambled eggs, honey and banana pancakes, waffles, fruit juice, the table had a lot of dishes which were way more than what two people could eat.

"I got them all made especially as per your likings. So do eat a lot," Song Guang said with a smile after he took his seat.

Song Jia's heart filled with warmth at her grandfather's considerate behavior. Ever since she was young, he had loved her, protected her, and taught her everything that a father was supposed to do. Despite being a stern man that he was, he still tried to be as tender and caring towards Song Jia as he could, to fill the void of her mother's love. Of course, he could never be like her mother, but he tried his best and also got Nanny Lin to take care of her which turned out to be an excellent choice.

Even though she didn't really have an appetite due to all the worries that filled her mind, she still nodded her head and started eating after Song Guang filled her plate with various kinds of dishes. She didn't have the heart to tell him that she was not hungry.
