"What…? How dare you stand between…"
"You and your property?"
Finishing the sentence in place of the man, I stared daggers at him, clearly not taking those words seriously. Barely capable of even seeing the man through the fracture of space, I could at least be happy that he was intelligent enough to not dare to approach this strange rupture in space any closer.
"If you understand what's going on, then why are you standing in my way? Are you seeking death?"
To be quite frank, after all this time when I continued to meet with normal people that had normal desires and normal way of thinking, meeting with someone literally pulled out of a trash cultivation novel with the arrogant young master attitude felt quite refreshing.
"Eve, dear, is that person…"
Instead of replying to the invading man, I turned back to my beloved one. If my guess was right, then I had no right to decide what would happen to this man.
"My memories are hazy… But the feeling… The aura he has is perfectly the same as to what I remember."
Shaking her head in confusion, Eve was clearly not in a state to decide anything. Patting her gently on her head, I turned myself back to face the man.
"First, who the fuck are you?"
With the full scale of my energy rapidly coursing through my veins, my emotional state was also quite fragile. Once I set myself on the track of personally taking the revenge for everything that happened to my dearest in her past, instead of seeing the man in front of me, I just saw a meat bag that had to be eradicated.
And a part of this intent had to seep out of my eyes, forcing the man to back off.
"I… I'm a senior disciple of the Katenari clan. Given the right of the first touch, I came here to claim the free blo…"
From the looks of things, the man was simply too scared to answer in any proper manner that could improve his position, clearly going for the truth as if hoping that being honest would help him this time. But what he didn't know, was the fact that he already sealed his fate by admitting to not being anyone significant.
After all, I couldn't just kill Eve's father like that, couldn't I? As for some random senior disciple…
Unable to be bothered to use my own power, I simply stopped stabilising the rupture in space that I created just a moment ago. With my own constitution and energy being more than enough to stop it from spreading in my own direction, the rupture in the fabric of space could direct its expansion in just a single direction.
Right towards the arrogant man that dared to invade my room.
Watching the scenery with nothing but hate in my mind, I was delighted when the reverse force of gravity stopped the man from moving away, locking him in place. As the fabric of the universe continued to tear faster and faster, it quickly reached the flesh of the man, ripping it into particles even smaller than atoms.
At this point, I couldn't help but wonder. In this world, were there any particles smaller than quarks that I knew a little about from earth? Sadly, even such an impossibly small denomination of matter existed, I lacked any equipment or proper ability to sense or detect it. That's why the show of watching the terrified man turning into a thick soup of basic particles as if evaporating backwards into the void of the universe was only interested in the very beginning.
"I think it will be enough."
By the time only the head and a bit of hair on it remained from the man that dared to invade my room, I infused the space around the rupture with enough clean magic to forcefully close the tear.
When I was finally done with the task, I realised that not only was the invader consumed by the void but so was the majority of the front wall where the doors used to be. The rest of the visitors that were still waiting for my answer thoughtfully backed off when the fight was about to erupt, saving them from the terror of the death within the void.
"Dear sirs, given how I just killed one of the disciples of the Katenari clan…"
Before I could even finish my sentence, the face of the man that was kindly speaking with me before turned ugly.
"A trash like you? Why would we ever want you in our sects?"
For a moment I was quite surprised, as I already expected them to back off from their earlier offers, yet not in this manner. Only when I saw the female guide that oversaw my testing did the realisation of what was really going on appeared in my head.
This could also be the reason why that disciple of Katenaris was so willing to break all the social rules and just excuse himself inside the room I was renting.
"Good. I was worried I would have to spit in your face so that you would stop begging me like the dogs you are to let you get rich off my own abilities. Now, get lost."
Normally, acting like that in face of three people that claimed to be the heads of powerful sects would be stupid, but I already managed to gather enough information to confirm that their claims were actually as far from the truth as they could be.
After all, if they were really interested in recruiting me, how could they allow a lowly Katenari disciple to attack me while I clearly told them I would think about their offer? And the most conclusive evidence was actually pretty simple - once I stopped hiding the energy that was coursing through my body, my senses also grew back to their usual sensitivity, allowing me to see through the cultivation of the three.
Or rather, it's nearly entire lack. After all, who could be called a powerhouse in the city of immortals with the cultivation of just the lower immortal?
"Eve, we will be going. Bonger, I hope we can count on you to protect our back."
Pulling Eve's hand in order to get her moving, I could feel my heart shattering in pain when I noticed that she was still shocked. Just the fact that even to this point she still didn't manage to overcome the traumas of her past made me feel like a failure of a husband.
With how long the two of us were together, how could I allow her to still be troubled by her past?
"Hey, you! I challenge you to a…"
As soon as the three of us placed our feet on the street, yet another annoying voice bothered me. Unwilling to waste any time on this kind of trashy challengers, I simply swatted the young man bearing the same uniform and insignia as the man I already killed away, not even decreasing the speed at which I was moving.
He wanted to challenge me, yet he was unable to defend against a simple slap? Thinking about it in this way, instead of being a bully, I actually showed him mercy by not accepting his stupid challenge.
"Excuse me, but could I take a bit of your time?"
This time, the situation was different. Barely a few moments after I pulled out of the inn where we were staying, a middle-aged man appeared in front of me. Just from the fact that my heightened senses didn't empower me to see through his cultivation forced me to realise that this time, the man was someone who I had to treat with respect.
"What do you seek from me?"
With his robes completely white and devoid of any decorations, this man made me incapable of gauging his allegiances at all. yet, instead of lashing at me right at this moment in order to use the fact that I was still taking care of stunned Eve, he simply smiled and pointed his hand at one of the buildings in the distance.
"I heard about your poor results in the tests… Yet it made me feel like there had to be something deeper to you. That's why I would like to challenge you to a duel on the duelling area in a few hours from now. Would that be okay with you?"
