"Let's talk later." Zoey whispered, not giving Cora Ma a chance to tell her worries and warnings as she ended the call.
"Z..." Cora Ma's worried voice trailed off. Earlier that day, she happened to see into someone so familiar in the airport premises.
It was Ezekiel Tang, someone that Cora Ma hated for being a complete jerk. Moreover, he was the guy responsible for Zoey's current dilemma. He was the past that gave Zoey the most painful memory.
The more reason for Cora Ma to worry. Cora Ma only had one recollection of seeing Zoey vulnerable. That was after her first break up.
This showed that Zoey truly gave her heart to the man. But he shattered Zoey's innocent and naive heart with his bare hands.
After that, Zoey didn't date for a long time and bury herself with her multiple part-time jobs. Cora Ma could vaguely remember that the next thing she knew, Zoey began dating and dumping guys so easily as she aggressively climbed to the top.
Therefore, Ezekiel Tang coming back in the country and meeting Zoey, Cora Ma was afraid that it would affect Zoey. Just hearing how Zoey whispered her last remarks, it worried her more.
"Zoey..." She whispered, deciding to drop her current errands, and rushed to Z Image Group.
*****
Staring at Melanie Xue, the corner of her lips curled up. Unlike how Cora Ma imagined, Zoey seemed to be thrilled.
"Did you say Zeke?" She clarified.
Melanie Xue nodded her head, pursing her lips together. Somehow, she didn't like the man. He wasn't arrogant or anything of the sort. Actually, the guy that was looking for Zoey was quite polite.
However, Melanie Xue had already acknowledged Matthew Xi as their future big boss. Just the small time they spent with Matthew Xi, he was able to capture the people's heart in the office.
"Invite him in." Clueless of why Melanie Xue seemed reluctant, Zoey ordered.
"Boss Zhou, are you dumping Boss Darling?" Instead of abiding immediately, Melanie Xue frowned and inquired. Her boss was an unpredictable mess. Thus, she was afraid that Matthew Xi would be dumped even before he could completely capture Zoey's heart.
"Huh? Why are you worrying about that?" Slightly surprised by the sudden question, Zoey arched her brows.
No one had meddled with her love affairs. Not them or Zion Kwan... well maybe, Cora Ma had her fair share of nagging.
Even so, no one else dared to speak about it in front of her. Be it her name was all over the news for dating a celebrity, everyone kept their own business. Yet, Melanie Xue was now asking if she's dumping Matthew Xi?
"Just... "
"Do you like my darling as much as I like him?" Slowly, a brief smile formed on Zoey's lips. It was impressive of her Browny to capture the heart's of her people despite that cold surface of his.
"Go. Don't let my visitor wait for long. He's impatient and I might lose the chance to boast." Receiving no verbal response from Melanie Xue, Zoey said with a confident smile.
Melanie Xue glanced at her before nodding her head. She then left the office after a bow. Before she shut the door, Melanie Xue saw Zoey stood from her seat and headed to her room.
*****
Shortly after, Melanie Xue knocked on the door with someone behind her. "Boss Zhou is inside." She meekly muttered, bowing her head to their big boss' guest, and left.
The man, Ezekiel Tang smirk as he held on the door's handle. Slowly, he opened the door and entered the room.
He scanned his gaze around the cozy office, yet Zoey wasn't there. "Z," he called. His voice was gentle, as if that one word caressed one's ear.
Hearing no answer, Ezekiel Tang strode to the long couch. "I know we ended in bad terms, but I'm sorry." Knowing she was just around, probably hiding somewhere, Ezekiel Tang spoke after a sigh.
"Apology accepted." From the corner of the room, Ezekiel Tang heard her familiar voice. Turning to the source of the voice, his right brow arched.
There, Zoey closed the door behind her. Ezekiel Tang's eyes travelled from her head to toe, causing his thin lips to curl.
Zoey unexpectedly bloomed into a beautiful flower.
"Do you always wear revealing clothes in the office?" He asked, scanning Zoey's tempting body with that short skirt and a sleeveless fitted top beneath her unbuttoned blazer.
"Normally, I don't. I need my people to concentrate." Chuckling, Zoey shook her head as she humored the man.
She strode towards the seat opposite him. When she reached the couch, Zoey slowly sat down and placed her leg over the other.
"But since I got a visitor, I felt like having a change of clothes." She said, revealing a cunning smirk on her lips.
"I see." Chuckling back, Ezekiel Tang locked his jet black orbs at her brown eyes that were like the earth's surface. "You changed a lot, Z."
"And you haven't, Zeke."
"Aya, don't be heartless. I'm a changed person now." Not a bit displeased at her remarks, Ezekiel Tang chuckled as he playfully argued.
"Say, don't you want to get back together?" He suggested, causing Zoey to laugh.
"See? You haven't changed. Poor Clara." Finding his suggestion silly, Zoey chuckled as she shook her head. "You're getting engage tomorrow, yet the soon-to-be-groom is already looking for a mistress." Indeed, tomorrow was Ezekiel Tang's engagement party; the party that Zoey was invited.
"Haha! Just kidding!" Ezekiel Tang laughed, as if he found this conversation amusing. Although he was truly kidding, if Zoey agreed, he wouldn't mind taking her right there and then. After all, there was a reason he was there: HER.
Who wouldn't want to have a taste of her? With all the dating rumors about Zoey, Ezekiel Tang thought Zoey had mastered kama sutra.
ALSO, she was the woman he fell for the first time... and he was the man she loved unconditionally first. They say first love never dies... although it wasn't accurate; it has some points.
Cora Ma was wrong. Ezekiel Tang wasn't just a jerk, he's worse than that.
"My apologies, Zeke. But there's a man that I'm already catering at the moment." Ignoring how scum of a person the first guy she ever loved, Zoey shook her head.
She must be foolish to fall for someone like him. After all, he didn't have a bit of decency. Unlike her Browny, that was the epitome of elegance and hope, Ezekiel Tang paled in comparison.
Well, Matthew Xi finally gave Zoey a clear standard. Zoey was clueless about it but her current standards, only one man could reach that: Matthew Xi.
"Oh? A new toy?"
"Oh, please. Refrain from calling him a toy. After all, he's my future husband.." Despite the sudden urge to cut his tongue, Zoey remained calm as she declared.
