"Big bro..." As soon as they exited the hotel room, Enzo Li sighed helplessly as he turned to face the towering figure behind him.
However, he didn't have a chance to say anything before Matthew Xi spoke up. "Follow me." He said, trudging away from the room and led the way.
'Lord... what is happening...?' Watching Matthew Xi's broad back, Enzo Li let out another deep sigh as he dragged his feet and followed the boss.
He couldn't understand what happened. How did Zoey bewitch Matthew Xi or how they met? After all, Matthew Xi was a person who wouldn't goof around.
Matthew Xi was the type of person whose itinerary was work then home. Even during his business trips, Matthew Xi would barely stay at a dinner longer than half an hour.
Therefore, meeting Zoey who was pretty busy several months ago, wasting her energy staying in a cheap establishment to look for her lifetime companion was questionable. How did they even meet? What kind of luck do they have?!
Enzo Li constantly glanced at Matthew Xi's back as they headed to the parking space. Both didn't say a word, despite Enzo Li's tickling curiosity.
During this silence, Enzo Li was reminded of the time he bumped into him in Kwan General Hospital. The time he thought Matthew Xi contracted a disease!
With that realization, Enzo Li gasped as he paused in his tracks. That night... that very night, Matthew Xi sent him abroad to attend a long event.
Did he do that because... Enzo Li's gaze twisted as he put the pieces together. Does that mean Matthew Xi knew about his relationship with Zoey all along?!
"Big bro... did you send me overseas because you knew about my relationship with Zoey?" Although Enzo Li didn't need any answer, he could not help but ask mindlessly.
Slowly, Matthew Xi turned around as he shoved his hands inside his pocket. "Yes," without a bit of hesitation, he replied bluntly.
Matthew Xi studied the unsurprised expression on Enzo Li's front. He knew his second cousin wasn't dumb enough to not do the math. By now, he must have gotten the gist of what was happening.
"How... I mean, why...? Big bro," Enzo Li paused, shaking his head to clear his muddled mind which question weighed heavier. "Y — you don't like her, do you?" Lifting his gaze, Enzo Li gulped as he clenched his teeth and prepared to receive an honest answer.
Matthew Xi stared at him for a second before he shrugged his shoulders. "...." Although Matthew Xi has tons of uncertainties about this relationship, what he was certain was he liked Zoey.
Not as deep to consider it was love or too hollow to consider it as an infatuation. All Matthew Xi knew was that he wanted her around him for now.
He disliked it when some man was close to her — whoever it was. Matthew Xi just hated it the reason he had been spraying repellent on insects who had tried to land on his beautiful flower named Zoey.
"No..." Shaking his head, Enzo Li held his head in distress as he whispered.
Matthew Xi furrowed his brows, wondering what was behind this over the top reaction. Was there a problem for taking an interest in Zoey? Was he jealous? Does he like Zoey too?
His paranoid subconscious mind could not help but wonder. Hence, he watched Enzo Li recover from his shock without a word.
"Big bro, please don't!" After some time, Enzo Li finally returned his gaze to the pair of scrutinizing russet eyes as he muttered.
"Do you like her?"
"Heck no!" Without batting an eye, Enzo Li denied the seemingly accusation. "I'll never like that woman! She's a troublesome lady!" He added through his gritted teeth.
"Troublesome...? I know." In a matter-of-fact tone, Matthew Xi arched his right brow as he was well aware how troublesome mess Zoey could be.
"Big brother, I do like Zoey but not that kind of like! That's why you shouldn't like her back! If you know she's troublesome, that's a red flag already!" In a more distressed state, Enzo Li argued, which didn't make sense to the person opposite him.
"I don't want to badmouth her behind her back, but..." Heaving a heavy sigh, Enzo Li pinched the space between his brows before he resumed. "Everyone that liked her back, Zoey instantly loses her interest in them! She's the type of woman that will let you see what you wanted to see and then show her true colors after she had enough fun!" Enzo Li simplified his explanation for his point to get across his second cousin.
He knew how terrifying Matthew Xi could be, hence Enzo Li was concerned of what would happen to Zoey. If what he feared happened, he was afraid Zoey wouldn't be able to get away with it easily.
Matthew Xi slowly nodded his head in understanding. "You are right..." he said, taking a step back inside. "You shouldn't badmouth people behind their backs. Anyway, she doesn't know who I really am because of a misunderstanding. I'll only tell her if she asked me directly. I would hate it if she'll know about it from others." With that said note, Matthew Xi resumed in his strides as he went back inside the hotel.
Meanwhile, Enzo Li helplessly watched him depart until he could no longer see him. "Not know...? Big brother... I think you got everything wrong." He murmured, as Matthew Xi's last remarks resonated in his mind repeatedly.
Knowing Zoey, Enzo Li was well aware of her capabilities. Zoey might appear reckless and carefree. However, she never stood on being in the dark; it was always either taking hints or just knowing everything from start to end.
Therefore, Enzo Li's concern rose to its peak as this affair would only bring trouble. He might not show it but he cared for Zoey — same with Matthew Xi.
That's why he wouldn't let this destroy either of them. "Jeez.... I need to talk to Zion about this! I can't believe he doesn't know!" Through his gritted teeth, Enzo Li stomped his feet towards his car as he hastily fished out his phone from his pocket.
