Chapter 139 - Long List Of Love Interests

An hour later, Matthew Xi finally departed Zoey's hotel room after an hour of her dramatic nagging for him to stay. She acted as if he was deployed to join a war.

For Pete's sake! He was just resting in the same establishment, just in a different room! If he could just say that, he would. However, he was afraid Zoey would just evacuate her room and squat in his room. That would be troublesome considering all the things he had to consider.

Fortunately, she gave up in the end. Thus, Matthew Xi was able to heave a sigh of relief.

As he headed back, Matthew Xi fished his phone out from his pocket. Without further ado, he speed dialed his ever reliable assistant Paul Qian to do something important for him.

"Yes, Young Master?" It only took two rings for Paul Qian to answer, immediately asking for whatever reasons his boss called him in this hour.

"Run a background check on someone. I want everything from start to end." Without a bit of hesitation, Matthew Xi filled him in while the latter remained silent as he listened. "Her name is Zhou Zoey." Upon dropping her name, Paul Qian knitted his brows.

He knew this Zoey; he already met her through Enzo Li. Does this have to do with Enzo Li? Paul Qian wondered internally, cooking up assumptions inside his head.

"I want them tonight." Matthew Xi was well aware of his assistant's curiosity. However, he didn't feel the need to explain and let things be as they were.

"Noted, young master." With that said note, Matthew Xi ended the line.

Paul Qian was curious what happened for Zoey Zhou to get Matthew Xi's attention. Regardless, his assignment was more important.

After all, Matthew Xi rarely ran a background check on someone. Well, he did every once in a while whenever there was supposed to be an addition to the Xi family.

His boss was that paranoid. Matthew Xi might not show it on the surface, but he cares for his family more than he appears. He didn't want his relatives to be with a con artist who was only after their shares in the XI Corporation or what their clan could offer.

Meanwhile, although Zoey had already soothed Matthew Xi's displeasure earlier, her words lingered in his mind. His own curiosity was piqued, and he needed to satiate his curiosity or he might end up crazy.

'Let's hope it isn't a big deal...' He whispered internally, hoping he wouldn't find anything suspicious.

Two hours later...

"Young Master, this is the only information our team could gather regarding the person." From the other end of the line, Paul Qian explained after sending a whole profile of Zoey.

Matthew Xi said nothing as he ended the line. Since he didn't have his laptop with him, Matthew Xi checked the file via his phone.

For a second, his thumb dwindled as he hesitated to open the file. Reading this, he was afraid to know what lies within.

What would he find out? Was this going to change his perspective to Zoey? Was this enough to know her? What would it be?

Matthew Xi wondered.

Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath. When he opened his eyes, he tapped on the file and it soon redirected him to Zoey's profile.

The profile started with the basics such as her name, date of birth, age, gender, and all sorts of information he already knew. So far, there was nothing amiss with the information which relaxed his stiff shoulders.

Turning to the next page, Matthew Xi read Zoey's history; the timeline of her life which Matthew Xi would hate if someone did it to him. After all, this was an invasion of her privacy.

Matthew Xi narrowed his eyes on the first date of Zoey's history. It only stated that at a very young age, Zoey and her family got into an accident.

Her parents were rushed to the Kwan General Hospital where they were both proclaimed dead on arrival. Meanwhile, Zoey had undergone extensive rehabilitation for the trauma.

"This must be the one she mentioned..." Matthew Xi whispered, nodding his head as he already had an idea of this because she mentioned it to him.

However, the next page got him wondering. It stated there that after some time, Zoey went missing.

"Missing...?" Matthew Xi read further which made his brows furrow.

For some reason, the Kwan's did an extensive search to look for Zoey. Even used all their connections and resources but to no avail.

This could be considered that the Kwan's were just worried for their hospital's reputation. After all, having a missing child under their wing would take a blow on their reputation. No wonder the Kwan's had an information lockdown when they didn't find the missing child.

It was then after years when Zion Kwan in his teens that the Kwans had an addition to their family. Her name was Zhou Zoey. Although they didn't legally adopt her, thus resulting in Zoey still using her original surname.

Moving forward, although Zoey got the Kwan's family backing, she still lived her life alone. She didn't rely on the Kwan's financial support and worked hard on her own.

The next page stated all kinds of odd jobs where Zoey worked while studying. She also clung to a scholarship which she didn't need if the Kwan's were willing to pay for her studies.

Even after graduation, Zoey didn't rely on the Kwan's and chose her own path. She started her business and after a year, it flourished and now stood proud as the Z Image Group: One of the most promising companies in its field.

"Irrelevant information." He whispered. Matthew Xi just skimmed through the next pages with little interest. It was about her first love affair with Ezekiel Tang and the little details of how long their relationship lasted and their dramatic end.

Followed by the long list of her love interests through the years. It was so long that it took two full pages, which made his brows twitch. "Irrelevant." He muttered, tempted to delete the whole file out of impulse.

After that, all that was stated was her nonstop business transactions, showing how Zoey grinded in her early 20's without a pause for years. Until the current year, it showed how many business deals she closed, including the recent one which was with the Sun Corporation.

Reading this whole profile, Matthew Xi should've felt his curiosity satiated. However, it made him thirsty for more. Leaving the current one aside, her early years piqued his curiosity.

First, why would the Kwans adopt Zoey? Not like they were that generous to adopt all orphans who lost their parents in an accident. If they were that charitable, they would have adopted everyone.

Secondly, what happened in those years she went missing? Where did she go?

Lastly, what's up with that long list of love interests? Even Enzo Li and Richard Sun were on the list. It was never funny. If Matthew Xi didn't ask his team to dig up this information, he would treat it as not reliable information.

"Zhou Zoey..." Massaging his temples, Matthew Xi muttered.. "Will you tell me if I ask?" He added, intrigued to know more as this was as far as he could dig up.
