"What are you two doing here?" Clenching his teeth, the man inquired as he alternated his piercing eyes from Matthew Xi to Zoey. "Miss Z, why would you bring this man here? The money's gone and these men still bear grudges against him!" He added, glaring daggers at Matthew Xi who injured half of their members and sent them to the hospital.
"Like I said, he was the one who insisted on coming here. Also, Milo, can you tell this guy that I'm only buying information and not drugs?" In a matter-of-fact tone, Zoey rolled her eyes before she paused and furrowed her brows. "Wait, those thugs have grudges against my Browny?" She asked, intrigued on what exactly Matthew Xi did to them.
"I don't care, alright? Whatever your lovers' quarrel is about, just go. I'll get in trouble!" Milo exclaimed, shooing them away as their reasons couldn't bother him.
He just earned those thugs's trust after that incident with the robbing. Hence, everyone who sees Matthew Xi and Milo together would misunderstand. They would obviously think that Matthew Xi was an accomplice to get their trust.
"Milo, listen to me. I don't care if you get in trouble. I will be in trouble if you don't clarify my boyfriend's misunderstanding." Grabbing him by the collar, Zoey grumbled as she too was in a stressful situation.
"Tsk!" Milo clicked his tongue, slapping Zoey's hand away from him. "No, she's not okay? Now, go!" Turning his head to Zoey, Milo spoke as he slowly turned to the weird fellow he encountered a month ago.
"Damn... you should thank me instead of pressuring me. If I didn't stab your boyfriend, do you think they will let him go after he beat half of our members? He won't be standing here if I didn't help him." Sounding like an aggravated fellow, Milo spouted as he tugged the hem of his shirt and cast Matthew Xi a disdainful glare.
Indeed, Matthew Xi ran amok that night. Hence, since Milo was left unnoticed, he seized the opportunity to save him. After all, that night escalated faster than expected and went out of hand.
Despite the wound Milo had inflicted onto Matthew Xi, he had still managed to which was commendable. Still, since the members had guns, Milo was afraid he would be an accomplice to a murder.
Those people were rotten, the lowest scum on earth. Silencing Matthew Xi would be easy for them to forget. Especially if they see him as a threat.
"Also, you know why I'm here right? So, can you please not come here whenever you like?" Giving Zoey a sarcastic remark, Milo scoffed and glanced at the two for the last time before walking back inside, slamming on the door on his way.
"Jeez... such an edgy guy." Zoey scorned, doing a stance to kick the door to vent.
"Let's go." Matthew Xi glanced at Zoey and without further ado, he turned and walked back to where they'd parked.
"Wait—!" Zoey perked up as she jogged to catch up to him. That's all? He didn't say anything nor did he admit that this decision was rather rash.
"Our business is done here? That's all?" Zoey asked immediately upon catching up to him and walked by his side.
"Mhmm," Humming a tune, Matthew Xi gave her a side eye as he wondered. "Are you not going to ask me anything?" While they headed back to her car, Matthew Xi inquired.
After all, Milo had said things Matthew Xi failed to detail to Zoey. Wasn't she curious? Would she just pretend like nothing was wrong? Pretend that she didn't hear anything?
"Ask? Hmm?" Knitting her brows, Zoey studied his side profile. "Like what?"
Upon hearing her last remarks, Matthew Xi's steps came to a full halt. He slowly turned to face her as he shoved his hand inside his pocket. "Don't you want to know me?" Direct and unhesitant, Matthew Xi asked without batting an eye.
"I do. If you're thinking why I'm not asking about what Milo said, I'm not interested. They tried to rob you and you just happen to know how to fight back. They were unlucky to meet a fighter — that's all." Shrugging her shoulders, Zoey explained her thoughts about it.
"After all, it's not that I didn't consider that you can't fight — it's human nature, the adrenaline rush. You crashed into someone else's car and escaped from their clutches, and you're still standing right now — healthy and handsome. It'll be even more shocking if you're a pushover who dies easily." Zoey added in a matter-of-fact tone.
As a person who sees the worst in others, Zoey had assumed most of it the first time Matthew Xi woke up. After all, despite his fresh wound, Matthew Xi had a clear head and negotiated with her.
Why does he think he got her interest the first time? If Matthew Xi didn't intrigue her, Zoey must be dating an embalmer now and let Matthew Xi pay her in cash.
With just that alone, Zoey had narrowed down what kind of person she was dealing with. If they'd met under different circumstances, Zoey would ask him tons of questions.
However, she found this set up between them amusing. The mystery of Matthew Xi, Zoey wanted to uncover it by herself. Bit by bit, she wanted to see what lies within his cold mask.
"You don't think I'm dangerous?" Staring at her straight in the eye, Matthew Xi inquired. Her reasoning somehow didn't make sense, but after being with her, he somehow thought she had a point.
"No," Seeing her reflection through that pair of russet eyes, Zoey took a step forward. "I always thought you're dangerous..." Low and slow, Zoey studied his front. "...that's why I like you even more."
'I told you not to play with fire. Alas, you didn't listen.' Peering at her eyes full of resolve, Matthew Xi whispered internally as he tilted his head to the side.
"You're a bit thin, underweight." Out of nowhere, Matthew Xi uttered while studying her figure. "I wonder if I pinned you to the wall and forced myself onto you, will you even dare say you like me?" His baritone oozed with dark desires, paired with his russet orbs which intensified the dangers emanating within him.
"Darling," Gulping a mouthful of saliva, Zoey took a step back as her instincts told her to. She sensed a different kind of danger, causing red alarms inside her head. "I am in charge of seduction, not you. I'll be too easy for you if you're like that." Biting her lower lip, Zoey was never enticed like this. Well, perhaps, she was once.. That night she surrendered herself to this familiar dangerous vibe.
