Zoey inhaled and exhaled heavily as she closed her eyes, nodding in understanding. "Do you believe I can straighten his preferences?" Without opening her eyes, Zoey inquired.
"Hmm?"
"I mean I think my boyfriend is... you know." Slowly, Zoey opened her eyes as she cast him a side eye.
"Err...maybe?" Paul Qian awkwardly answered, finding her situation rather weird. Who wouldn't?
Paul Qian gazed at Zoey and even in a simple blouse and jeans, she looked stunning. There's no doubt in that. Therefore, for Zoey to be entangled and like someone who she assumed as gender confused was quite peculiar.
If this wasn't karma, Paul Qian didn't know what it's called. After all, he had seen Zoey's background check report and her long list of love affairs.
Yet, despite the fact that Matthew Xi ran a background check on her, he didn't assume that his big boss was into Zoey. After all, Matthew Xi had asked him to run a background check on several occasions. Hence, he didn't conclude that far and deep about Zoey and Matthew Xi's relationship.
"But Miss Zhou, to be honest, if a person is firm on their sexuality, it's very unlikely to change that and we must respect that sincerely." Paul Qian added, speaking his honest thoughts. Not that the respect he had for a person was based on their genders or identity.
He was just speaking realistically as he wouldn't change his preferences if he was in the same situation. For example, he wouldn't just bend just because someone from the same gender liked him.
In other words, it's just impossible to change someone's sexuality overnight... or it was entirely impossible. Thus, he could only wish Zoey to move on and respect the latter.
"Mr. Handsome Qian..." As Zoey absorbed Paul Qian's last remarks, Zoey gulped a mouthful of saliva as her hand tightened. "Thank you," facing him, she stretched her lips into a thin line as she stood up.
Paul Qian just said the things she needed to hear which she thought were right. She needed to respect Matthew Xi and his sexuality — period.
After all, her friends were shameless enough to think she was a superwoman. That Zoey was able to change the person if she used brute force.
"No problem, Miss Zhou. I don't know if I helped you or not, but I wish you good luck." Offering a gentle smile, Paul Qian also rose from his seat as he nodded as a gesture of his sincere good luck for her.
"No, it's perfect." Shaking her head, Zoey let out a deep exhale as she raised her head. "Mr. Handsome Qian, I will confront my boyfriend and I'm expecting a heartbreak!" Zoey exclaimed in conviction, as if she was ready to get deployed into a war.
"Uhm... okay?"
"And that means you also need to prepare yourself because I might throw myself at you next!" Zoey pointed her finger at him, as if her words were so easy to speak, rendering Paul Qian speechless.
Paul Qian nearly cringed. Was she indirectly saying she'll use him as a rebound? Why? What did he do? Wasn't he just helping her out of good will as she was Enzo Li's friend?!
How did she conclude that he was willing to help to such extent? Realizing what kind of deep crap he had stepped into, he unconsciously moved back as Zoey seemed determined in her claims.
"Uhm, Miss Zhou, I —" however, just as Paul Qian would make himself clear, Zoey's next words nearly made him puke blood as they weren't comforting as she thought they were!
"Don't worry. You just have to fall for me and I'll break up with you before you know it." Zoey reassured, as if it was a very nice and easy advice. "Anyway, I really thank you for sparing your time with me. Till next time my future boyfriend!" Patting his shoulder, Zoey immediately rushed back to the mall's parking space as she needed to take this time while she's hundred percent determined to face a heartbreak.
On the other hand, Paul Qian stood rooted on the floor as he watched Zoey's retreating back helplessly. "Enzo... I need his help..." he murmured, his complexion paled as somehow, he knew deep down she would do what she said which alarmed him.
Hence, when he recovered, Paul Qian tried to reach Enzo Li but to no avail. Just then, his phone rang displaying Matthew Xi's name on the screen.
For some reason, Paul Qian's hand trembled but still answered his boss's incoming call. "Yes, master?"
"Are you still with... her?" Cold and ominous, Paul Qian felt a chill run down his spine as he heard his boss's tone.
"No, Sir. Miss Zhou said she has to meet someone." Still, since Matthew Xi was akin to an overbearing and temperamental emperor, Paul Qian didn't dwell on it as he answered him truthfully.
"Someone?" Arching his right brow, Matthew Xi hinted that he wanted to know the details before his displeasure about what Zoey addressed his assistant would go out of hand.
Since Paul Qian got the hint, he willingly detailed his peculiar conversation with Zoey which he found silly to report. Unbeknownst to him, his willingness to report everything was akin to be placing his own neck on the chopping board.
"That's what Miss Zhou said... " as he concluded the entire conversation he had with Zoey, Paul Qian paused to gulp before he continued. "Master, if you need Miss Zhou about something, I can agree to her offer." He added, recalling Zoey's last remarks.
"What offer?"
"Yes, she said she'll throw herself at me if her business later will fail. I can take the chance to make a deal with her if you need..." However, Paul Qian's words were cut short upon hearing the line beeping as his boss hung up on him.
Knitting his brows, Paul Qian stared at his phone confusedly. Shortly after, he received a message from Matthew Xis number, it says;
[From: Mr. Xi Matthew,
Drop by the old residence now and tell my mother about this... for your own good.]
Upon reading the short yet baffling message, Paul Qian already knitted brows creased even more. Still, as an obedient assistant as he always were, Paul Qian still followed his big boss's instruction.. Little did he know, he made the right choice as Vivian Xi was the only person who could shield him from Matthew Xi's raging wrath.
