"You're friends with Moretti?" Glancing at Zoey who was silent since earlier, Matthew Xi inquired when he stopped at the traffic light.
"Hmm. He's a very good old friend of mine." Humming as an answer, Zoey then explained briefly as she forced a smile on her lips.
"Whose birthday is it next week?" Arching his right brow, Matthew Xi could not help but feel bothered because ever since Cora Ma mentioned Patrizio Moretti's message, Zoey was acting weirdly.
"Huh?" Turning her head to face him on the driver's seat, Zoey cocked her head to the side. "Another friend of ours." She answered.
"You're lying." After giving her a side eye, Matthew Xi retorted calmly as if he wasn't mad about it.
To him, she must have her reasons. However, he wasn't that patient as he didn't want another person occupying Zoey's mind but him.
"No, I'm not. He's really a friend..." Zoey raised both her brows as she nearly rolled her eyes. "A very weird one at that." She added, shaking her head as she sighed.
"I see..." Nodding in understanding, Matthew Xi saw the headlights go green before he resumed driving.
"Don't bother yourself with him. He's a very creepy guy." Zoey suggested, leaning closer to him as she slandered their subject.
"Aren't you into creepy guys, though?" Not glancing at her, Matthew Xi muttered in a matter-of-fact tone. "If I didn't hide in your car, you would be dating an embalmer right now, probably." Recalling her reason for her night venture in the first chapter of their story, Matthew Xi frowned as he barely saved her through the skin of her teeth.
As soon as Zoey heard his last remark, a series of coughs escaped her lips. "Well, I really thought if normal guys wouldn't suffice, maybe darkness and literal deaths can bring forth love." Petty as it may sound, that was how much Zoey was desperate to get herself a companion for life.
Regardless, that didn't happen, right? That is what matters. Still, deep down, she was intrigued what would be her style if she dated an embalmer.
Would embalming bodies increase their bonding? Would she end up establishing her own funeral parlor? Would her style change from preppy dresses to gothic style?
Not that the style was bad. Actually, she sometimes wanted to dress gothic for a change.
"Don't think of the imaginary embalmer that you should be dating if your current lover didn't hop into the picture." Glancing at her, Matthew Xi's brows twitched as Zoey daydreamed in front of him.
"Hehe, I am not." Not even trying to sound convincing, Zoey lied as she giggled. "Ahh... my body aches. Darling, can you not hold back your orgasm?" Zoey then stretched her arms and ankle as she felt that her lower region was beaten black and blue last night.
It was still a miracle that they were able to wake up and go to work. She was certain last night they wouldn't make it to the office because they made love all night.
"I am not." Matthew Xi shrugged his shoulders, sprawling his hand towards her lap and caressed it.
"What in the damn world are these sensual touches I feel?" Looking at his hand that was gently rubbing her leg, Zoey pressed her lips into a forced smile as she turned her puzzled eyes to the driver's seat.
"Huh," Hearing her sarcasm that was laced with a comical remark, Matthew Xi chuckled briefly. "My hand moved without my will." Glancing at her, he winked as he smirked, pushing the blame to his hand as if it had its own mind!
"Tsk tsk tsk! So, so, pervy." Clicking her tongue, Zoey commented which he accepted wholeheartedly. Well, he didn't think he was also a pervert until Zoey came into his life.
After all, Matthew Xi also thought he had a problem as no woman would arouse him. He secretly met a few doctors, but they all told him it was fine. He remembered that one doctor noted that his problem was not about his phallus, but in his mind.
Therefore, Matthew Xi believed that only advice and carried on on with his life. Who knew that the doctor was right?
With a person with high status, great power, and influence, Matthew Xi's taste had even surpassed heaven's surface. He had this thought deep down his mind that no one would be able to tame him.
He was wrong, though. There was one person who didn't just tame him, but defeat him in many fields. She outsmarted him, made him question his life decisions... but above all, she gave him butterflies and even an inexplicable warmth in his heart.
"Ah!" Recalling something amusing, Zoey clasped her hands together as she turned on the car's bluetooth and immediately connected it to her phone.
"Baby lock the door and turn the lights down low~" As soon the familiar country song came in, Zoey grinned as she mimicked the singer's deep voice which also made him smile. (Reference: CH2)
Matthew Xi remembered this song. It was the song that he listened to when he was almost dying. Ironic that his trip towards the hospital was this iconic song as if he wasn't about to die due to excessive bleeding.
"Put some music that is soft and slow~" Zoey, singing in the lowest key continued as this song was too memorable for the both of them.
"Don't sing." Recalling what his first comment was to her, Matthew Xi bit his lower lip as he shook his head.
"You know, you can't sing this song without trying to mimic the singer, right?" Zoey chuckled, stating her own facts as her voice automatically deepened as soon as the song turned up.
"It's just that his voice is so low! It's even lower than Cora's self-esteem!" Zoey complained and sighed as not mimicking the singer's voice was just too impossible for her.
Matthew Xi chuckled, letting her express herself through singing and then hearing her complain as if the song was the one that was out of tune.. Unbeknownst to him, his initial intrigue about Zoey's 'old and creepy' friend gradually left his concerns.
