Chapter 251 - Fortunetelling

For the next two hours, Zoey and Vivian Xi gossiped about the most nonsense drama they could talk about. Meanwhile, Matthew Xi was akin to an accessory who was just there listening to Vivian Xi insult people's intellect.

When they finally parted ways, Matthew Xi was the happiest as he could finally have a solo time with Zoey. After all, this was their honeymoon and Vivian Xi shouldn't be disturbing them.

On another note, he really couldn't stop his mother as she went through the trouble of changing the venue for Alice Xi's birthday. After all, traveling back home after two days would be a hassle for Zoey and Matthew Xi.

"What is it?" Glancing at Zoey who was just standing in the middle of the room, Matthew Xi knitted his brows as his instinct automatically thought she was having another panic attack.

However, the next second, Zoey pivoted her heel and turned around. "I'm happy." Bearing a smile on her lips, she remarked.

Seeing her expression, Matthew Xi heaved a sigh of relief. The corner of his lips curled up, walking towards Zoey and immediately snaked his arms around her waist.

"I'm glad you are." He said, staring at her bright earth colored eyes with love.

"Darling," Pursing her lips together, it stretched into a wide smile as Zoey could not think of a word that could express her feelings right now.

Vivian Xi was so cool that Zoey wanted more time with her. She was more or less a friend Zoey could rely on.

She knew it; deep down, Zoey knew that she could rely on Vivian Xi. Things were better since Vivian Xi was her mother-in-law and Zoey could not ask for a different in-law.

"Mhmm?"

"Nothing." When she heard his questioning hum, Zoey shook her head as she leaned the side of her head on his chest.

Thousands and thousands of words jumbled inside her mind, making it hard for her to say everything. Hence, Zoey decided to keep it to herself because words were not important anymore.

"I want us to stay happy forever." Zoey whispered, feeling every stroke of his hand on her hair.

"We will." Confident, Matthew Xi promised as he left a soft peck on top of her head. "I promise." Their heart beat synchronized, as the air around them could never be more harmonizing and peaceful.

At this time, at that very moment, Zoey and Matthew Xi were confident that everything would be okay. That everything would last forever until they decided to take a new step in life and have children; until they watch their children grow, with blanched hair and wrinkled skin.

Both of them were certain that their love would last until they take their last breath; this wasn't just the fleeting confidence they had for now, but it was the confidence they would bring even to the next life...

Little did they know, their confidence especially Zoey's would soon reach its breaking point. The point in their lives that none of them expected was coming soon.

APRIL 18, 2019.

"My Mister! My Husband, look!" On one of the tourist spots, Zoey waved at Matthew Xi as she pointed at the fortune teller's stall.

They had been roaming around the city, trying out street foods as per Zoey's requests, and just walking to enjoy the moment. However, Zoey's eyes sparkled upon seeing a fortune telling stall with an old grandma with her crystal ball on the table.

Matthew Xi sighed, glancing at Zoey as if reluctant for the knowing gaze she was giving him. "You want to go?" Still, Matthew Xi asked helplessly as he didn't expect this kind of vacation.

He expected for them to relax by the beach near the hotel, but Zoey insisted on traveling around. What made it worse was she preferred commuting to experience life in the country.

Therefore, although he was happy that he was with her, he was also tired. Regardless, his exhaustion was nothing if he could make her happy with little things and efforts.

"Yes!" Bearing a large grin, Zoey held on his hand and immediately dragged him with her towards the stall.

"Hello!" Upon reaching the stall, Zoey greeted with a full smile before the old granny slowly looked up to her.

"You want me to tell you your future?" Wrinkled and old, the granny inquired which made Matthew Xi click his tongue.

"Behave." Elbowing Matthew Xi for his sarcastic reaction, Zoey smiled. "Yes! I want to know if my husband will ever cheat on me!" Zoey didn't beat around the bush as she inquired with a full grin.

Her question obviously made Matthew Xi frown. But glancing at her mischievous grin, he knew she wasn't that serious. Hence, he took this interest of her as her interest towards his business.

The old granny nodded her head, gesturing Zoey to sit in front of the table. "Give me your palm." Placing her arms over the table, the fortuneteller laid her palms open before Zoey placed it over it.

There was a moment in silence as the grandma read the lines on Zoey's palm. Matthew Xi and Zoey glanced at the grandma curiously.

"So?" After another minute, Zoey lowered her head to see the grandma's face. To her dismay, the grandma seemed to have fallen asleep!

"Uhm..." Clearing her throat, Zoey awkwardly smiled at Matthew Xi as she looked up.

"Let's go." Shaking his head, Matthew Xi said as they were just wasting their time.

Pursing her lips on a thin line, Zoey cautiously pulled her hand away. However, before she could do so, the grandma grabbed her hand tightly and suddenly looked up causing Zoey to jolt in surprise.

"Yes." The grandma's voice shook, staring at Zoey straight in the eye. Her reply caused Matthew Xi to snort as he was now convinced she was conning Zoey.

"Young lady, your husband will cheat on you... he will leave you sooner than you expected." Despite the snort that came from Matthew Xi, the grandma's eyes never left Zoey as she stressed all her words.

"R — really?" Sounding disheartened, Zoey ignored Matthew Xi as she cooked up dramatic scenarios in her head that gave her an instant heartache!

"Nonsense." Matthew Xi was on a brink of rolling his eyes, as he couldn't believe Zoey sounded as if she was convinced.

"Yes, but I can give you something to avoid that from happening." Nodding her head, the grandma retracted her hand away from Zoey as she grabbed something from under the table.

"This will help you." Shortly, the old grandma brought out a jade bracelet. Upon laying his eyes on the bracelets, Matthew Xi's frown turned uglier.

They literally saw the same designs while looking for souvenirs. It was just that both of them didn't think anyone would appreciate the low quality bracelets from either of their sides.

"Young lady, time will rob you everything: your love, your happiness, and your life. This bracelet has been the last piece blessed by a blessed monk and it will help you change your ominous faith." Never breaking her solemn gaze from Zoey, the grandma placed it on her palm while Zoey stared at it.

"Really?"

"Yes, it's cheap considering it can change your life... forever." The grandma added.

Matthew Xi could not believe the terrible marketing strategy the grandma has. However, glancing at Zoey, he could not help but sigh. She was being conned and she more or less was aware of it.

However, since the grandma said all those terrible things, Zoey would buy it for sure. Their wallets wouldn't hurt by buying the bracelets anyway.

"Okay. Is it only one? Or do you have a pair so my husband can wear one too?" Determined to buy the bracelets, she inquired.

"Like I said, it's the only piece for as low as nine hundred ninety-nine bucks." Upon hearing the amount, Zoey's determined face suddenly distorted.

"What?!"

'That's my girl...' When Matthew Xi heard Zoey exclaimed, he heaved a sigh of relief as finally, Zoey snapped back to reality... or so he thought.

"Five hundred!" She haggled, reducing the price by half causing Matthew Xi to take back his words.

"750."

"550.." With that being said, Zoey and the grandma negotiated before they agreed on the price which was 650 bucks.
