"Looking for someone?" As Zoey stopped into the corner to lessen the attention she was getting, a voice of a man approached from behind her.
"Waiting for someone." Zoey corrected, stressing her word as she put up a formal smile.
Her eyes scrutinized the man discreetly, stopping them from sparkling as he was indeed a cutie. Bad habits. However, she was now married and with just the thought of her husband, this man actually paled in comparison.
"I see..." Nodding his head in understanding, Lucas Xi offered. "Wine?" He raised his brows, holding two glasses of wine that was for him and her.
"Thank you, Mr...?" Out of politeness, Zoey accepted the glass of wine but didn't drink it.
"My surname is Xi, Lucas Xi of LX law firm." Bearing a gentle smile, Lucas Xi introduced himself like how he normally introduced himself to others.
However, unlike how he was indifferent towards the latter's introduction, his eyes revealed his interest in her. "Pleased to meet you, Miss Zhou." Yet, even before she could properly introduce herself, he added.
"Uh..." Baffled as to how he knew her name, Zoey wondered if he had heard about her from Matthew Xi or Vivian Xi? "You know me?" To have clearance of her puzzlement, Zoey inquired as she slightly loosened up.
If Lucas Xi was Matthew Xi's cousin, Zoey thought it would be nice if she gave a good impression. However, the longer Zoey stared at him, the stronger she felt that he was interested in her.
Zoey might not point it out directly, but she has keen senses when a person has romantic interest in her. After all, she's a veteran play girl and knows what a man wants just interacting with him.
"By name, just now." Lucas Xi shrugged his shoulders, not lying that he just came to know her name and her company's name minutes ago.
"You've caught quite the attention with your entrance, just so you know. Standing straight, Lucas Xi struck up a conversation as he smoothly opened up how Zoey caught his eyes earlier.
Although it wasn't a grand entrance, yet most people there could sense if a gem arrived. Some would see its potential, some would be curious if it was a true diamond, while others see it as a threat that would outshine them.
Nevertheless, Lucas Xi couldn't care less what other people's opinions were. Whether Zoey was another person's woman, he just approached her to satiate his curiosity.
Perhaps, he could also charm her secretly. Who knows, there was no telling how these people's mind works as they often cling on to someone more powerful in standing.
Although there were limits that Lucas Xi set, those limitations were mostly related to the circle he came from. After all, he wouldn't want to have a dispute with any of them just because of a woman.
"Well, I'm pretty so I'm used to it." Shameless as ever, Zoey's response came out naturally from her lips before she could even think properly.
'Very good, Zhou Zoey! Your confidence is too much. I am actually embarrassed!' Internally, Zoey felt like slapping herself awake as her defense mechanism to avoid feeling awkward by the compliment was to compliment herself more.
"Haha, you must be." Chuckling, Lucas Xi didn't mind her shamelessness but rather found it amusing in a way.
"So, who are you waiting for?" He asked, curious who was the lucky man to have a beauty waiting for him.
"My husband." Without batting an eye, Zoey answered without glancing at Lucas Xi.
Lucas Xi, on the other hand, cast her a doubtful stare as his eyes studied her side profile discreetly. "You're married?" He's gaze then shifted to her fingers. There were a few rings she was wearing, but his eyes noticed the delicately crafted ring around her ring finger.
"Yes, I've been married for 3 days to be exact." Zoey chuckled, proud as she informed him how many days she had been married and was actually still in their honeymoon phase.
"Three days? Congratulations, then." Lucas Xi didn't show disinterest after knowing she's married. If anything, he was amused that she was married.
After all, there were only a few young bachelors around and personally knew them. Hence, the list of who her husband might be narrowed down to those who were lucky to be invited.
Perhaps, it was the thought that Matthew Xi's marriage was still unclear to him that he didn't even consider him as Zoey's husband. After all, the last news Lucas Xi heard about his cousin's love life was that he found a love interest.
Therefore, the rumor that Matthew Xi already got married was also doubted by Lucas Xi. It was just too soon for that knowing how meticulous and cautious Matthew Xi was in terms of marriage.
"Thanks." Smiling at the polite congratulatory remarks, Zoey stole a glance at him before she caught a cursed figure.
"Z??" From behind Lucas Xi, Ezekiel Tang who had a bit of drinks approached Zoey. "What are you doing here?" He exclaimed, his tone laced with ridicule as if he could not believe that she was also present.
'Why is this guy like a mushroom that spawned out of nowhere?' Her brows twitched, watching Ezekiel Tang who appeared to be less attractive among these handsome young masters of the upper echelon.
"Is he your husband?" When Ezekiel Tang stopped several steps away from them, Lucas Xi arched his eyebrows at her studied Ezekiel Tang from head to toe.
Inside his mind, if this was Zoey's husband, he believed he had overestimated Zoey's intellect and taste. After all, this man standing before him lacked tact and seemed to have enjoyed more wine even before the debutant appeared.
"No." In utter dismay, Zoey didn't even bat an eye as she immediately answered Lucas Xi's inquiry.
However, her immediate response, which also sounded disgusted, displeased Ezekiel Tang. "You're married? To whom this time?" Since he was offended, Ezekiel Tang scoffed as he purposely slandered Zoey in front of Lucas Xi.
After all, by the looks of it, Zoey had enough of Matthew Xi and was now seducing her next prey. Not a bad choice, but too bad for her, Ezekiel Tang was around to sabotage her ploy.
As soon as Lucas Xi heard Ezekiel Tang's remarks, he frowned. "What do you mean this time?"
"Yes, what do you mean by 'this time'?" After a second, Zoey repeated the same question with her furrowed brows. Lucas Xi glanced at her puzzled visage as she waited to get enlightenment by the other person.
'I see....' It was a simple reaction, yet Lucas Xi chuckled at how brilliant Zoey could rebut the slandering.
