Chapter 316 - This Lifetime?

Zoey bit her bottom lip as she locked her hands across his waist. Instinctively, he glanced at her hands but said nothing and continued driving at a safe speed.

At his silent approval, Zoey could not help but smile like a fool. Well, since she was given the silent permission, Zoey wouldn't waste this chance and rested the side of her head against his muscular back.

Meanwhile, Matthew Xi's jaw tightened as her warmth slowly transferred to him. Surprisingly enough, he wasn't repelled by her clinginess.

Normally, no woman could stand within three meters from him. He had a keen nose to smell other people's intentions. Thus, it was easy for him to discern if someone — especially a woman — wanted to seduce him or climb into his bed.

However, towards Zoey, his body, mind, and heart was rather welcoming. He didn't hate her touch, nor did he hate her as a whole person. If anything, he sort of liked it deep down.

Earlier, Matthew Xi had this inexplicable emotion upon seeing Zoey with Ivan, and then when she smiled at Kenneth Bai. It was a foreign emotion for him and he couldn't understand himself either. One thing for sure though, he disliked that feeling.

Not to mention, this strong urge to monopolize her. He disliked that she was being buddy-buddy with all men; that she looked at others with a sincere smile aside from him.

Above all, Matthew Xi disliked how she looked at Enzo Li: his cousin. There was just something in her eyes that no one could decipher aside from her what was it. Nonetheless, it irked him to the extent that he was still bothered.

The problem was, why? He just met her a few hours ago. Yet, there was this familiarity that Matthew Xi was confused about. He wasn't the type of person who would forget people. Most especially, if the person bore Zoey's unpredictable personality. She would be engraved in anyone's mind unconsciously.

Therefore, Matthew Xi wondered where this source of familiarity came from? There must be something... and he needed clearance. Not now, but he would find out.

Soon, Matthew Xi stopped in front of LN Medical Group, glancing at the rear mirror as Zoey had laid the side of her head on his back. "We're here." He said, looking over his shoulder.

"Ah..." Zoey moved her eyes up, seeing the bright sign of the hospital before a faint scoff of dissatisfaction slipped past her lips.

Fortunately, Matthew Xi didn't notice her displeasure. Well, she just wanted to hug him more, send her love silently, and indulge in his warmth. Yet, time truly passed faster when she wished for it to slow down.

Slowly and reluctantly, Zoey got off from the motorcycle before Matthew Xi followed. Even before he could offer to help her take off her helmet, Zoey was already done with it all and shoved it back to him with a slight frown.

"Here," Grumpy as she was, Zoey pouted before facing the hospital's front. "I hate hospitals." She murmured, taking a step towards it without asking him to follow.

If one didn't know better, they would think they were going to visit a patient. Unbeknownst to them, Zoey was going to admit herself because the man following her was a little overbearing.

Matthew Xi watched Zoey storm her way in, angry about something he was uncertain about. "She's really moody and... weird." He murmured, shaking his head sideways before following her tracks.

"Ugh... why am I here?" Zoey grunted, rolling her eyes as she scanned the private room that they had provided her with.

From the door to the ceiling, furniture to its aesthetics, Zoey could not believe that this was a hospital. It was more like a hotel room for her — the IV drip aside and the machine that wasn't being used on her — it was on par with those five star hotels!

No wonder the elites among elites solely trusted LN Medical Group. It wasn't because of its superb medical treatment, but also because of the comfort it gave them! The Kwan General Hospital wasn't even this grand!

On another note, Zoey chuckled. Why does she sound as if she wasn't in here before? In her previous life, she got admitted in the same hospital. It was just that she was too devastated to admire the hospital's aesthetic. But now...

While he entered the private ward, Matthew Xi spoke. "Rest here for tonight." He heard her complaints upon entering the room, thus, he gave her the obvious answer.

Zoey's frown remained intact, her gaze followed his figure that plopped down on the chair beside the bed. Her lips parted, but no words slipped out as she zipped it back together.

"You said you hate hospitals, why?" Matthew Xi inquired, his russet orbs never left Zoey and noticed that she wanted to say something but changed her mind in the end.

Therefore, he asked. Perhaps, that was the reason she was being grumpy. Or so he thought.

"I don't exactly hate hospitals... just being alone in this stopover before the cemetery." For a moment, Zoey pondered about her answer and lied whilst mixing some truth in it.

She didn't mean to lie. However, it would sound so dramatic and dark if she gave her honest answer. After all, nothing good happened in the hospitals for her.

Well, there were a few but it was overshadowed by bad memories. First, the memory of her as a child. Secondly, losing her husband and child in the same place, and lastly, her friend.

Everyone goes to the hospital first before they proceed to the cemetery. Thus, she would rather take the medicine they gave her and go home. Alas, Matthew Xi insisted and admitted her against her own will.

He's lucky she loves him to death. Or else, Matthew Xi would be the one that was admitted instead of her.

"That's dark." Matthew Xi commented, but obviously not bothered by her train of thought.

"Ugh..." She grunted, rolling her eyes again as she sulked half of her face onto the pillow.

"I'll stay, you won't be alone." After some time, Matthew Xi reassured calmly. She saw him blink slowly, the gleam in his eyes bore sincerity to accompany her.

"Awww~ I'm so pretty that even in this lifetime you can't resist me..." Without a thought of her words, Zoey expressed as she fluttered her eyelashes beautifully.

However, Matthew Xi knitted his brows upon her last remarks.. "This lifetime?" He arched his right brow, cocking his head a little to the side.
