Chapter 318 - Die Together (fragments Of Volume 1)

October 19, 2019

"Zia, you came… finally, huh?" NIkolai Silvestrii raised his gaze towards the person standing at the door. The light coming from outside doubled the height of her shadow, inside the obscure messy room Nikolai Silvestri had been staying.

By the sound of his voice, he wasn't completely sober. There were empty cans of beers, empty bottles of whiskey and vodka littering around. Zoey moved her gaze and detected a few drugs laying on the floor and the table.

Overall, one could tell that the once revered Nikolai Silvestri was nothing but a loser. He fell from his grace along with the fall of the entire Silva Family. Yet, there wasn't the slightest sympathy that crossed Zoey's eyes.

If anything, her gaze emanated killing intent. The dangerous aura circling around her grew stronger as soon as her eyes landed on him. Her jaw tightened as she gulped, taking a step forward inside and trudged towards Nikolai Silvestri.

Without further ado, Zoey pulled the gun that was clipped behind her and pointed the muzzle at his forehead. "Oh, please…" Nikolai weakly raised his hand as his body swayed sideways. Although he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs, Nikolai Silvestri was conscious enough of what was going on before him.

"Why?" Her grip on the pistol trembled, gritting her teeth as hard as she could as the questions in her head were left unanswered.

"Ah?" Confused, Nikolai blinked his eyes lazily as he forced himself to look up. Unlike how dark the room was, the dimness in his eyes was clear to Zoey that he was utterly puzzled at her question.

"Was it you?" She asked, pressing the muzzle on his forehead. "Did you kill my husband and Cora?" This time, Zoey clarified her question so he could give her a clear answer. God knows that one wrong answer, she would pull the trigger.

Even if he lied, Zoey would know. The reason she wanted to do this herself was because she needed to see herself and be the judge. Pulling the trigger was an act of mercy. Zoey would do worse if she wasn't considering the debts she owed the man. Therefore, it was only right that she was the one to deliver his retribution. Not God, not Satan, but Zoey herself.

Let them all rot in hell because she didn't care anymore. She had lost her husband, her child, her friend, and now her brother had lost his will to live. This was worse than hell for her. No, this was already hell. What was the problem if she added one more sin?

"Ha ha!" Upon hearing her question, Nikolai chuckled while shaking his head sideways. He wasn't threatened that a gun was pointing at his head. "Zia, that's funny! Haha!" He wiped the tears on the side of his eyes as he held his stomach.

"Answer me!" Not pleased by his indifference, Zoey shouted as she pulled the barrel before she pressed it in his head. "Did you or did you not kill them?!" her voice laced with desperation, one couldn't tell if she was shouting in anger or pleading for him to deny it.

"Did you know Ivan is dead?" Nikolai scoffed, slowly raising his head at eyes that were full of hatred. Upon hearing his question, Zoey's hand froze in an instant.

"Five… It will be five months tomorrow, Zia. He's been dead for five f*cking months!" Slowly, Nikolai rose from his seat, wobbling a little but managed to stand on his own. He stared down Zoey as his indifferent gaze gradually changed into angst.

"What are you saying?" Zoey's hand that was holding the pistol dropped as she never left her gaze away from him. There was no doubt Nikolai was making this all up. He wouldn't joke about Ivan's death or any of his friends just to gain sympathy.

"Hah!" Nikolai could not help but laugh in mockery at the stupid and a no-brainer question. Well, not that being a no-brainer now would matter anyway. Their days were numbered, so being stupid and wasted was probably be acceptable now.

Why struggle? Why fight if it was they were meant to lose anyway?

"Niko, what happened?" Still carrying the gun in her hand, Zoey grabbed Nikolai by the collar as she shook him. "Who did it? Who's behind all this?" Out of desperation, Zoey bellowed as she noticed that Nikolai knew more about it.

She needed to know. He knew things she didn't. Hence, Zoey was desperate to get some information about it even if she had to take extreme means.

"No, Zia. No." However, despite that Zoey's grip on his collar tightened, and the eagerness in her eyes were certain, Nikolai Silvestri wouldn't send her to her death. He knew her so well, she would go on a suicice mission.

Therefore, Nikolai would rather keep his mouth shut. Let her shoot him to death, he deserved it. But he wouldn't send her to her death himself. He already failed her, this was the least he could do.

"Zia, just stay out of it. Move on and —" Before Nikolai could finish his advice, Zoey pushed him away that caused him to be imbalanced.

Nikolai, due to his current pathetic state was easily pushed causing him to plop on the carpeted floor. He assisted himself with both his palms and looked up at Zoey who had her gun still pointed at him.

"Zia, even if you shoot me, I wouldn't…" However, his words trailed off as his eyes widened. Apparently, he suddenly felt sober because of the sight in front of him.

Before him, Zoey changed the direction of the muzzle and pointed it to her temple instead. "Who is it?" Zoey was quick to pick up that Nikolai didn't value his life anymore, but still cared for her. Therefore, Zoey used her own life to threaten him to tell him the truth.

"Zia…"

"WHO IS IT?!" Not up for negotiations, Zoey's thundering voice resonated across the room.

For a moment, Nikolai just stared at Zoey as bitterness flickered across his eyes. He knew Zoey would pull the trigger; she might change her mind at the last minute, but she would surely investigate anyway.

"You really want to know?" After letting out a sigh, Nikolai tilted his head back in distress. ""Stay with me. Let's just die together then." Nikolai muttered as he felt helpless. This was a ride or die situation.. Still, at the very least, he could shield a bullet or two for her.
