Chapter 323 - See You Later, My Mister.

"We're sorry, Mister Xi. This guy forced his way in and — " The guard who was pinning Ivan down was out of breath, evident by how they struggled to catch this person who ran amok early in the morning.

"Get off of me!" Ivan shouted as he struggled. The guards couldn't understand as they don't speak the same language. He was only keeping his words from last night — to turn this place upside down if they didn't let him see Zoey — yet they're on the way.

What's so wrong in wanting to visit his sister? They may not be related by blood but their bond was thicker than real siblings. These people just wouldn't understand that!

"It's fine, I know him. Let him go." Upon recognizing the man, Matthew raised his hand as he gestured to them that he didn't mind.

With that command, the guards looked at each other as they nodded their heads in unison. Without further ado, they let Ivan go and tugged their uniforms that were creased by the chase. Ivan also stood up from the tiled floor as he dusted off his shirt while scoffing in disbelief.

"I'm sorry for the trouble. Please tell Doctor Lian Romnick that I apologize for the trouble." Matthew slightly bowed his head as he expressed his apologies on behalf of Ivan's action.

Matthew knew that it was partially his fault. After all, he was the one who requested that no one could visit Zoey — even Enzo Li… especially Enzo Li who was his cousin. His displeasure knowing that Enzo Li would surely drop by made Matthew Xi give such order and forget about this foreign guy named Ivan.

"Yes, Mister Xi." When the two guards recovered from panting, they bowed their head before glancing at Ivan. Due to the chase and trouble Ivan caused, the two guards' eyes bore disdain before they left.

"Hah!" Ivan scoffed, his gaze followed the guards retreating as they left. How dare they look at him in contempt without knowing the situation? Anyone would do what he did if they were in the same situation. They just couldn't understand because of the language barrier and because of this guy that was the culprit of all this: Matthew Xi.

"You!" After watching the guards retreat, Ivan shifted his glare at Matthew Xi who was standing calmly near Zoey's bed.

"Ivan," Zoey who knew Ivan full well could not help but roll her eyes. She was just convincing Matthew Xi that she was a proper businesswoman of her own company and yet, her brother was acting like a rascal.

This isn't Europe for Pete's sake! They could do whatever they wanted back home, but here it was different. They were just normal citizens who must follow the rules and not the one that would be setting up the rules.

"Sis, you know I wouldn't go to all this trouble if not for this guy! He didn't want anyone to see you as if he wanted to cage you all for himself!" Still enraged, Ivan spoke in their own mother tongue that Matthew XI wouldn't understand.

Little did he know, Matthew could understand him clearly. Thus, Zoey sighed as she was reminded that she needed to deal with this younger version of Ivan as well. Unlike eight years later, Ivan had grown matured and rarely spoke.

But in this current lifetime, he was rather energetic and defiant. He was smart, yes. But Ivan was also reckless and silly at this age. The reason he was a headache to Nicolai and thus gave this freedom to him just so he wouldn't have to deal with him. Now, the responsibility to babysit Ivan fell on Zoey's shoulders.

On the brighter note, Ivan wouldn't need to go through all that changes as a person because Zoey wouldn't hurt him like he was in their previous life. This time around, she would surely be his big sister and protect him at all cost.

"I said I'm sorry. I am merely concerned about your sister's well-being and I didn't want anyone disturbing her rest." Although Matthew XI understood his language, he couldn't speak fluently. Hence, he responded using the universal language which was English — Ivan could understand that language.

"He can understand you." Zoey sighed upon the aghast look on Ivan's face. "It's not his fault, Ivan. I also preferred peace." Not lying, Zoey shook her head sideways as she glanced at Matthew Xi.

"I will be staying here for the rest of the day but you can't stop me from getting discharged tomorrow." Zoey affirmed for the last time. Her tone wasn't open for any negotiations as it was her final decision.

Matthew stared back at her without a word. "If that's what you wish." Surprisingly enough, he didn't argue anymore as he shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly.

However, his answer somehow made Zoey arch her brow in suspicion. Earlier, he was just arguing with her but then suddenly agreed with her. Deep down, it alerted Zoey of what was going on in his mind at the moment. Regardless, if he agreed on not holding her in, Zoey knew that whatever scheme he has in mind, she could manage.

"Anyway, since your brother is here, I'll have to take my leave." Matthew then changed the subject as he checked his wristwatch.

"Go," Ivan, who was still displeased at the arrogance Matthew Xi gave off shooed him away without batting an eye.

Meanwhile, Zoey saw him glance at her for the last time before he started taking steps out. "Wait—!" Suddenly, Zoey called out which made him pause in his tracks and look back. "Will you come later?" Zoey heedlessly inquired to Ivan's dismay. She didn't even think twice of her words that would make her sound modest and just asked directly.

Upon processing her words, the side of Matthew's lips curled into a smirk. "Of course. You're my girlfriend, after all." With that being said, he resumed in his tracks and left the two alone: with Zoey smiling meekly while Ivan gasped in disgust.

'See you later, my mister..' Zoey bid her sweet farewell internally as she watched him close the door behind him.
