One hour later, Melanie Xue finally arrived at Zoey's private ward. Her eyes twinkled as she inspected it by staring wondrously at every little thing.. "Wow…" She muttered in awe, staring at the chandelier for a second and then shifted her starstruck gaze to the well-carved furniture around.
"Mel," Zoey called out, rolling her eyes as she shook her head sideways.
"Boss Zhou, how much are you paying to stay here per night?" Melanie snapped, blinking her eyes as she glided towards Zoey's bed; behind her was Cora Ma who was standing with a disappointed look on her face. Mel didn't notice Ivan who was sitting near Zoey with his legs crossed.
If only Melanie was more focused on her surroundings, she would notice the mockery plastered in Ivan's eyes as he watched them. Earlier, Ivan decided to stay silent, to enjoy his last day of freedom because Zoey told him he could start tomorrow.
"Mel, this is not a hotel, alright? Also, aren't you more concerned about your boss's well-being?! How heartless!" Zoey grumbled, crossing her arms in front of her as she frowned. Her gaze then raised to Cora Ma who was standing near her with a frown.
"Hi Sis." As awkward as it sounded, Zoey greeted Cora Ma with a tone full of guilt. Well, now that Cora showed up, Zoey recalled that her best friend told her she would stay over the night. However, Zoey didn't go home last night or inform her that she wouldn't.
Knowing Cora Ma, she would have been worried the entire night. It was not impossible that she didn't get enough sleep waiting and worrying for Zoey. After all, Zoey's phone was dead and her best friend's call wouldn't go through. How irresponsible of Zoey.
On another note, it was Matthew Xi's fault! He was the one who insisted that she would have to stay in the hospital for the night! If Zoey would take that fact into consideration, she has someone to blame and avoid Cora Ma's wrath! Yes, that was the plan.
Hi?" Cora sarcastically repeated, arching her right brow as she crossed her arms under her chest. Zoey knew that her best friend was just restraining herself from scolding Zoey as Mel was still around. Important matters come first. The scolding could come later.
"Right, here are the files you asked for. This is the charger and laptop." To avoid Zoey's retort earlier, Melanie wittily diverted the subject as she snapped her finger. She then pulled out the things Zoey asked for from the large tote bag where she put them in.
One after another, Melanie placed the folder consisting of piles of documents, phone charger, and the laptop on the side of the bed. Zoey checked the things that Melanie brought and nodded in satisfaction. Surely, Melanie was reliable with this kind of errands.
She didn't forget a thing. Well, not that Zoey asked for many things. Still, it was amusing how Melanie brought the correct folder she'd asked for.
"How about Gelline? Did you tell her?" After a satisfied nod, Zoey asked as she raised her gaze back to Melanie. However, the latter's expression caused her eyes to squint. "What?" She asked suspiciously.
"Errr… Boss Zhang asked if we have funds for downpayment for the purchase. She said she will call you once your phone is working again." Melanie scratched the back of her head as she delivered Gelline Zhang's response.
Gelline Zhang, the vice president of Z Image Group has a strict reputation. Everyone considered that woman to be much scarier than Zoey. Although Zoey would roast them until they're toasted, Gelline Zhang's method was way different.
Still, Gelline Zhang was the sole person who has the audacity to argue with Zoey. It may be a little odd, but their combination strangely suits each other's personality. One was unpredictable with a mix of craziness while the other was old fashioned yet clear headed and calm.
"I'm busy. Just tell her to sign the contract." Zoey rubbed her chin gently as her nose scrunched up. How the hell did Zoey even expect Gelline Zhang would do as she was told to? Of course, her vice president would need an explanation and detailed plan of Zoey.
Although Gelline would still listen either way, it would be troublesome to make that woman upset. Most especially, with the current state of Z Image Group that was on the brink of bankruptcy, Gelline Zhang would be concerned with a big decision.
"Boss Zhou…" Reluctant, Melanie deeply exhaled as the expression of her face screamed 'why are you tormenting me' kind of expression.
"Just tell her that. Sign it today and we'll talk tomorrow. Tell her I'm on a brink of death today!" Alas, despite the desperation plastered on Melanie's face, Zoey couldn't care less. Let Melanie be the sacrifice for Gelline's wrath today.
Zoey's plate was full at the moment! Can't Melanie see that the grim reaper named Cora Ma was itching for this conversation to end so she could send her judgment?! Not to mention, the bitter Ivan who was still displeased at being deployed to be Zoey's assistant.
Indeed, her plate was full. However, Zoey forgot that those weren't the things she needed to worry about. There was still Matthew Xi who would turn her life upside down when he returned later! It was just a matter of hours before Zoey could find out about it.
"Fine!" Melanie frowned, accepting this unjust punishment today.

Meanwhile, at XI Corporation CEO Office, Matthew Xi put down a few pages of papers. As he did, Zoey's photo along with her profile was seen in it.
"Z Image Group…" He murmured, nodding his head. After reading her background check, Matthew should admit that he was wrong on judging Zoey by her personality. She was indeed a businesswoman albeit her company was struggling and was barely surviving.
"Assistant Qian, send me a business proposal with three of our current projects for the signs we need. Floor plan needed." Without further ado, Matthew Xi pressed a button on his telephone that was directly wired to his assistant.
"Yes, Young Master." Paul Qian responded immediately.
After hearing Paul Qian's response, Matthew leaned his back against the swivel chair, the corner of his lips hooked into a smirk as he chuckled. "Zhou Zoey… such an interesting character." He muttered, shaking his head because this was probably the first time he was wrong in his judgment at first impression.
Surely, Zoey was full of layers which gave him the thrill to see what lies beneath her beautiful shell.
