Chapter 383 - I Wonder Who Killed You Before?

"Sis!" Ivan didn't bother knocking on the door as he busted in, calling out to her in urgency.

"What?" Zoey, who was lazing on her swivel chair with her feet sprawled on the desk and hands behind her head, asked in annoyance.

"You have to see this." As if he ran a mile, Ivan took deep breaths before closing the door behind him.

Upon noticing his strange expression, Zoey knitted her brows as she watched him approach. "Here," Ivan shoved the screen of the phone in front of her.

Zoey had to squint her eyes and drew back a little to see the short message. Her brows arched, and then raised her eyes upward. "What is this?" She asked, puzzled at this nonsense he was showing her.

"This is Angelo's number and I don't know." Exasperated, Ivan exhaled sharply as he retracted his hand away from her.

"So?" Unlike Ivan who felt alarmed and an urgent tone, Zoey was laid back. "Do you want me to go and take the bait?" She asked, blinking her eyes multiple times as she cast him a look of disdain.

"I didn't mean that!" Slightly annoyed at how Zoey reacted, Ivan clicked his tongue and ruffled his hair.

"Then, what?" Zoey asked, knitting her brows as Ivan doesn't make sense. Or rather, he wasn't making any sense because he wasn't trying to be more accurate.

"I..." Suddenly, Ivan's words trailed off before he turned to Zoey whose expression screamed that she was staring at a fool. "Right," He exhaled, nodding his head in understanding.

"I'm exaggerating." He said, patting his chest as he tried to calm his racing heart. The sudden message and surprise of the message gave him a useless adrenaline rush.

Well, no one could blame him though. He was partnered with Angelo for months. Therefore, it was only natural for Ivan to think and worry for his previous partner. After all, danger often lurked around them and Ivan's natural instinct was to save his partner — be it Zoey, Nikolai, or Angelo.

Ivan was just that type of a person. He might seem like he didn't care that much, but in a tight situation, he would never turn his back against his colleagues. He would rather die than do such undignified actions.

"Yes, you are. You should've enjoyed the tea earlier, it forcefully calms your body and mind." In a matter-of-fact tone, Zoey shrugged her shoulders.

"I actually think I'll get addicted to tea. That's what happens when you drink coffee too much, you palpitate." Zoey humored, wiggling her brows up and down.

"Sis!" Yet, although Ivan realized how he was overreacting, he found her laid back demeanor annoying. "Can you for once act like you care even if it's a fake one?" He complained, glaring at her in dismay.

"This is not about tea or coffee! Also, don't you dare switch to being a tea person!" Ivan added, grinding his teeth as having everyone of them had coffee running through their veins, he couldn't take that betrayal!

"Hehe," Zoey chuckled, thinking that in the end, Ivan also strayed from his initial worries because coffee was more important. She agreed with that, though.

"Anyway, although I said I don't care about that friend of yours, I wonder why they were looking for me instead of Niko." Zoey slowly removed her feet from the desk, dropping her hands from the back of her head. "I'm starting to think you've lost your wits, Ivan."

Zoey slowly rose from her seat, walking towards him. When she was two steps away from him, she spread her palms open, tilting her head to his phone.

"Ah?" Momentarily, Ivan furrowed his brows before he figured what she wanted. Hence, he handed her his phone.

Once she had her hand on it, Zoey opened the message and read it once again. Without further ado, she walked back to her desk and picked her phone up.

She then snapped a picture of Ivan's phone, showing the number of Angelo and its message. "What are you doing?" Ivan asked, furrowing his brows in curiosity.

"Watch and learn." She winked, attaching the photo and sending it to Milo.

After a second, her phone rang which she answered almost immediately. "Hello~" she sweetly greeted. However, Milo wasn't as sweet and pleased to hear from her again.

"I said I won't accept any of your favors." Cold and monotone, Milo reminded her.

Their last encounter didn't end pleasantly. So, how could Zoey expect that he would just accept anything from her again? Not just that, but Milo read the content and could tell that Zoey was probably in deep trouble.

"Ehh, but you answered." She rolled her eyes, sighing as she had no energy to coax Milo's cold treatment.

"I did because I don't want you to bother me again!" In response to her diva-ish reply, Milo bellowed, grinding his teeth as he clicked his tongue sharply.

"Come on, man. Just this once okay?" Zoey tried her luck, but Milo ended the call just as she spouted her words.

"Sorry, Ivan. Milo doesn't want to trace your friend. My condolences." Her tone bore zero interest nor did she sound sincere. If anything, others would think she was disrespectful towards the situation.

"Ughh..."

"Seriously, though. I told you I don't care much about Angelo. I'd even kill him if I have the chance or if I know he betrays you." Zoey shrugged her shoulders, staring at the frustrated Ivan who was getting stressed for nothing.

While Zoey stared at him, her brows creased. "I wonder who killed you before." Zoey muttered, catching Ivan's attention.

"Who killed who? Me? Sis, don't speak if you just want to say crap." He scoffed, shaking his head as after he glared ice daggers at her and stomped his feet towards the couch.

"Should I call Niko?" He murmured to himself, thinking of what to do as he was a conflicted worrywart.

Unbeknownst to him, Zoey kept staring at him as the crease on her forehead wrinkled. 'Hmm...' She wondered, thinking that it was very suspicious how Ivan died in their previous life that easily.. Unless, someone he trusted the most was the culprit.
