On the other side of the country, Zoey knitted her brows as she drove towards the address given to her. "What, sis?" Ivan asked, seeing her face squint as if she was contemplating hard about something.
"Uhm, what do you think about the car?" Zoey asked, her eyes still on the road.
"Huh?" Puzzled at her question, his forehead creased. "It's good. The engine is smooth." He stated, glancing at Zoey in curiosity.
"Is that all?"
"Uhm..." He pondered, rubbing his chin as he recollected his short memory of driving this car that was only twenty-four hours old since it arrived. "It's easy to drive — that's all." He frowned, thinking that Zoey was overthinking.
"Are you afraid they installed bugs or worse bombs in it? If so, I checked. It's clear." He reassured, his tone blank as he had the urge to roll his eyes.
"Ughh...!" Yet, Zoey grunted as she rolled her eyes upon stopping at the red light.
"What?!" Annoyed at her behavior, Ivan quizzed.
"The red light." She cast him a bored look, rolling her eyes at him once again, and averted her gaze back to the road. "Ughh!" She grunted once again. Her fingers resting on the steering wheel tapped rhythmically.
"Why are you so impatient?"
"I want to test something! Gosshh! Don't you own your own car back home? How can you not notice the difference?" In a matter-of-fact tone, Zoey dissed as she shook her head sideways.
Although Ivan was more into exotic motorcycles, Zoey was well-aware that he also had cars to use. Therefore, as a fellow 'car enthusiast', he should know that the engine of the car was far better than what she had asked for.
No normal car engine could give her this feeling of getting impatient just to test its speed. Yet, this car, although it appeared to be just like any other standard car from the outside, Zoey knew for a fact that the engine was only made to look like what she had told Kenneth.
Her eyes were glued on the red light, her fingers tapping on the steering wheel, slowly reducing in speed as she counted inside her mind. As soon as the red light turned yellow, Zoey tightened her hand on the steering wheel. Once the light turned green, Zoey stepped on the pedal causing its tires to screech.
"Woah! Woah!" Caught off guard, Ivan shouted in awe as he instinctively held onto the sidebar. "What the hell?!" Still bearing the same pitch in his tone, Ivan cursed as he clenched his teeth, sucking air because Zoey had truly gone mad!
"Woopsie oopsie~" Zoey murmured, overtaking three cars all at once.
"Sis! Are you mad?! Do you think this is a lawless country?!" On the edge of his seat, Ivan squeezed himself into a small ball as his heart dropped to his abdomen.
"Oh, sh*t! Ah sh*t!" He spat a series of curses as Zoey overtook another car, but there was a car driving on the other lane. "Oyy!!" He panicked, his grip on the handle tightened as he darted his gaze from the car ahead and then to Zoey's unfazed side profile.
"Sis!!" Ivan shut his eyes, expecting impact as the honk from the other end of the lane grew louder.
Seconds later, Ivan opened his eyes carefully. They're still alive. He sighed in relief. "Sis, what were you thinking?!"
However, just as he asked, Ivan saw Zoey glance at the rear mirror before the sound of a siren reached his ears. "F*ck!" Another curse escaped his lips, ruffling his hair in distress.
"Why are you going mad in the middle of the afternoon? If you wanted to have a drag race, you could do it later at night! Not in broad daylight!" Ivan ground his teeth, turning his head to the back to see a police mobile chasing after them.
Sure, Ivan was a daredevil himself. He didn't mind racing back in Europe — not that it has more security, but he knew Nikolai would get him free from behind bars in just hours. However, he was in a foreign country with an order to keep a low profile.
Therefore, Ivan had been very careful. The only time he misbehaved was when he stood up for Cora. That's it. But because of this, Zoey would place him in a tight situation.
It might be a traffic offense, but there were still heavy charges for her actions. Thus, Ivan was getting too stressed out as there was already a police mobile hot on their tail.
"Shut up," Unlike his distressed calls, Zoey's demeanor was still laid back as she shushed him. "I'm losing my focus." She added, shaking her head as she glanced at the rear mirror once again.
"Jeeez! Don't forget that we're going somewhere!" He reminded annoyingly. For Pete's sake! There's literally a person in dire help of them! How could she make trouble for them like this?!
Ivan was well-aware that Zoey couldn't care less about Angelo's well-being. However, she could have told him a bit earlier that she had changed her mind. In that case, Ivan could have gone ahead of her!
"Who said I forgot about it?" She rolled her eyes, sighing once again. "Buckle up, boy." Zoey shot him a wink, smiling in confidence.
"Jeez!"
"Ehh, relax... We're going on a rescue mission." With that being said, the corner of her lips slowly curled into a smirk; a thrilled glint flashing across her eyes.
"Ah?" Baffled, Ivan's hand instinctively followed her advice as he secured his seatbelt.
Without further ado, Zoey stepped on the accelerator harder. Their speed gradually picked up its pace, growing distance from the police car that was chasing them.
Zoey glanced at the rear mirror once again, but she didn't dare reduce her speed. Soon, she glanced at the mirror to her side and saw another police car approaching them.
"Woopsie oopsie~ saw you~" Zoey giggled before she made a hard right turn; their vehicle drifted in the middle of the almost empty intersection, its tires leaving marks on the concrete before she sped away.
"Woopsie oopsie? What have you been watching?" Upon hearing those sweet, childish words again, Ivan's brows twitched. He was much calmer now as his heart adjusted to the situation and reminded himself that Zoey's driving skills weren't bad, nor was it the best. If one would describe it in one word, they would just call it 'crazy'!
What he was sure of was that Zoey had never been caught in a race with the police. What more if she's driving in a place with its map being memorized by drag racing.
"Babies." Without batting him an eye, Zoey responded as she made another mad turn because police were already coming in their direction from ahead.
"Babies? Uh..." Upon hearing her answer, Ivan frowned. "Since when did you like kids?" He asked, peering at her with a judgmental look.
"Uhh..." Before Zoey could reply, she clicked her tongue as the chase continued and her pursuers grew in numbers.
The sound of sirens filled the air along with the aggressive honks from the civilian cars that they nearly collided with.
"Uh, sis? Where are you going?" Ivan knitted his brows, seeing the route they were taking.
"Hehe. I told you, we're going on a rescue mission." Zoey giggled, the smirk on her lips crooked while Ivan's eyes widened in disbelief.
"Please, don't let what I'm thinking now be your plan..." Aghast, Ivan prayed.. Alas, her devious smirk told him otherwise.
