Chapter 407 - I’m A Goddess, I Know

Men and women in their smart casual suits were going in and out of the grand revolving glass doors of the XI Corporation. Zoey stopped in front of the establishment, breathing in and out for a second before she resumed in her tracks. Although everyone was busy with their own steps, Zoey's eye-catching makeup caught their attention.

Every one she passed by could not help but glance at her; some even chuckled as they covered their lips by the back of their hand, while others stared longer as they slowed down their pace. Regardless, Zoey didn't care at all as she continued on entering the building.

As soon as she entered the lobby, her steps came to a full halt. She raised her head, scanning the ever glorious XI Corporation's interiors. "Wow… even 8 years earlier, this building is designed to par with the future aesthetic." She mumbled in awe, her eyes twinkled while scanning the spacious lobby.

There were employees all scuttling around the area. Some were too busy moving around, while there were some groups that appeared more chill with their cup of coffee in their hand; some were just resting on those comfortable-looking couches. Overall, one could tell the distant relationship of these employees as they were too serious with their own affairs.

Compared to Z Image group that was filled with a bunch of busybodies, the XI Corporation was truly on a different level from then and now. Nevertheless, Zoey was still happy that her working place, although a little disorganized, was a fun and more open environment.

"This feels weird… I realized I only took this way once in my previous life. I always go straight to his office." Zoey shrugged, shaking her head as she recalled that in her previous life, she would take the private elevator from the parking space that goes straight to Matthew's office. No wonder most of the employees hadn't seen their big boss's face, he wouldn't hassle himself going in here if he could go straight to his office directly.

When Zoey cleared her thoughts at what's important at the moment, she resumed in her strides and trudged towards the information desk. "Hello~!" As soon as she reached the desk, Zoey knocked her knuckles lightly to catch the attendant's attention.

"Ye...?!" When the female attendant looked up, she was unable to finish her reply as she jolted back. The female attendant blinked her eyes many times, collecting her thoughts together at the horrendous sight of the woman across her desk.

"I have an appointment." Pleased at the reaction she wanted to see, Zoey's lips stretched into a wide grin, revealing her even white teeth.

There was a brief silence as the female attendant absorbed the woman's horrifying image in her mind. "Uh, yes? I'm sorry, Maam." She gulped a mouthful of saliva, clearing her throat before she forced a polite smile on her lips. "With who?" She asked, sounding polite despite her suspicious get up.

"With Xi Matthew." The grin on her lips grew wider, waiting for the person's reaction to unfold before her eyes.

Surely, as soon as the female attendant absorbed the name she had an appointment with, her fingers stopped from typing in her computer and raised her head slowly. The shock in her face as she met Zoey's eyes almost made the latter laugh out loud.

'Yes, I know…' Zoey giggled internally, holding back her laughter as she waited for the female attendant to recover from her shock.

Just as the attendant's eyes skimmed Zoey's front, wondering the real face behind her clown make-up, a group of employees arrived at the desk.

"Aiya, do you really think she'll use this path?" One male employee sighed heavily. By the sound of his tone, there was this underlying doubt as he scratched the back of his head in distress.

"Well, there's a little chance, right? This is for the better cause." Another male in his formal office suit elbowed the other person; he was more positive than the other two of his colleagues.

"I don't know as well. But, if we get on the good side of her, it'll all be best. I mean, I wonder what kind of person is she?" The one female employee shook her head sideways, diverting her head towards the entrance of the building while they made their way to the desk.

As soon as they reached the desk, to be exact, standing right next to Zoey, the first guy knocked his knuckles on the surface of the desk with a smile. Just then, he unconsciously glanced at Zoey. "Ahh!" He jolted back, shocked to see the horror that welcomed him.

"Huh?" Zoey tilted her head to the side, blinking her eyes as she darted her gaze from the three faces. Because the first employee caught the attention of the other two who were with him, they turned their heads towards her.

Upon laying their eyes on her pair of thick, dark brows, red blush-on on her cheek, and excessive lipstick that went over the outline of her lips, their face twitched in disbelief. 'What explosive makeup!' They all thought in unison, having mixed emotions whether to laugh until they cry or feel horrified at the sight of her.

"God… I almost had a heart attack." The first guy murmured, patting his chest as it heaved in and out. "I'm sorry, Miss." Still, he apologized to Zoey by slightly bowing his head. Although Zoey's explosive makeup was shocking and ridiculous on any level, they couldn't judge as she may be an important figure.

"It's fine. I know I put on less makeup today since I was in a hurry." Zoey replied kindly, offering them a gentle smile as she nodded her head. However, her reply rendered the three and even the female attendant over the desk speechless.

"Le -- less makeup…?" The corner of the other employee's lips twitched, his brain couldn't process her explanation which he didn't expect the slightest.

"Yes! But I didn't think it's really bad." Zoey shrugged, casually conversing with them with a smile. She then turned to the female attendant who still couldn't stop from flinching when Zoey faced her.

"Ah, yes…" Although there was a little certainty that Zoey was trolling when she said she has an appointment with the big boss, she didn't want to blatantly accuse her of deceiving her. After all, one knew the dangers of offending someone important to Matthew or the people in the upper echelon.

However, before she could check whether Matthew was expecting guests at this time, one of the male employees called her out. "Chi, is there someone looking for the big boss?" After knocking on the desk, the man leaned forward and lowered his voice.

One would know this was an offense because it was a personal affair of the one and only Matthew Xi. However, there was no so-called offense from someone who was on the verge of being unemployed.

One might think he was being a fool for hoping to meet a beauty who had bewitched that tyrant. Still, just like what the others say, if there's an opportunity, no matter how small it was, one must grab it. In this case, if they managed to be on the good side of this mysterious lady behind the phone call, she might deliver good words about them.

After all, the employee was a hundred percent sure that he had already practiced his presentation for weeks. Still, the big boss almost fired him even before he could begin. The reason? To sum the list Matthew said earlier, it all came down to him being in a bad mood! In other words, he would get fired either way if he presented whilst Matthew was in a foul mood.

"Huh?" Obviously, the employee's daring question surprised the female attendant.

"Don't tell this to anyone but I've messed up my presentation even before I can start. I heard the big boss is expecting someone -- his woman, everyone assumed. So, did she already arrive?" Since he didn't take Zoey's presence seriously, the male attendant summarized his situation through a whisper; the other two nodded their head before averting their gaze around.

"I bet we'll know in an instant if she walked inside those doors." The female employee sighed, imagining a goddess that could par the beauty of their big boss.

"That's for sure." The other one nodded his head, shaking his head before he subconsciously glanced at Zoey. He looked at her from head to toe, 'It's not her, right?' He thought internally, chuckling afterward upon realizing the ridiculousness of his random thoughts.

"Uhh…" The female attendant over the desk cast them a conflicted look.

"Hmm?" The three perked up, waiting for an answer from her.

"You mean, me?" Zoey batted her eyelashes, pointing at herself as she cocked her head to the side.

"Huh?" The three knitted their brows, slightly confused at Zoey. Thus, they turned to their friend that was standing behind the front desk. When they saw her nod her head, the three gasped in horror while Zoey enjoyed the sight of their reaction.

"Hehehe~ I'm a goddess, I know.." She announced proudly, fluttering her eyelashes coquettishly as she flipped her hair to the side.
