There was a moment of silence in the air as everyone's eyes were on her. Their eyes had the same expression as if wondering 'WHY?'. They could not understand their master's words this time.
Meanwhile, Kenneth gasped upon hearing the announcement. Currently, he was at the second floor, leaning on the railings as he watched the people below. Due to the eerie silence while Matthew was talking, he could hear his words clearly.
"What the…" Under his breath, Kenneth exhaled his words but was unable to finish his sentence. It was already a surprise to him that Matthew invited Zoey to this place that even Vivian didn't know existed. "So his plan was…?" He wondered, having several conclusions in mind.
On the other hand, Matthew's people stared at Zoey curiously. Their eyes bore the questions like: Who is she? Why is she being recruited? What is she to their big boss?
She was seen with Matthew since earlier today that had piqued everyone's curiosity. First, they thought that she was Matthew's lover. However, as they saw a little bit more of her, they ruled it out. Why? Because Zoey was akin to a child that finally got out of her house and saw the real world with curiosity and excitement.
"Uhh… master?" Owen, the most courageous among everyone in the room raised his head. He peered at Zoey from head to toe; his under eye twitched seeing how delicate looking this creature was.
Indeed, Owen didn't have that great impression of Zoey. After all, she had been bugging him since before the game started and watching him clean his gun bearing those twinkling eyes. For him, she was akin to an adventurous young miss that fascinated these things and took it lightly.
"Who is she? I don't mean to offend, Master. I'm just curious." Owen, although still carried his arrogant and annoying tone, at least sounded more restrained and respectful. When that question was dropped, everyone's eyes were on Matthew, waiting for a clarification of Zoeys identity.
"That is not the question, Wen." In a matter-of-fact tone, Matthew replied. "The question is, why?" He corrected, indirectly rejecting the question he would never answer.
"From now on, Wen, you will train her in close combat. Carter, you will train her in strategies, while Yan will train her in her precision. In other words, she will join every training. Treat her as your new colleague." Matthew didn't give much detail, but rather, he started instructing his squad captains about their additional work.
"After all, I can't let her out of this world knowing she can't defend for herself." Matthew then glanced at Zoey who was still shocked at the current situation.
Pleased that Zoey was too shocked that she wasn't rejecting, Matthew returned his eyes on his men. "I'll entrust my girlfriend to you."
Upon hearing his last remarks, everyone stood properly. At the same time, they bowed their heads and answered in unison. "Yes, Master." No one questioned Zoey anymore, nor did they complain.
However, some, especially, Owen, Ryan, and most of them had a shocked expression across their faces. They couldn't believe that this woman was indeed the master's woman. This woman, who wasn't elegant nor reserved just like what a soon to be queen should act like, was their master's woman!
She just didn't match! From her demeanor, her outfit, or what she looked like right now that was akin to a ghostface mask, one couldn't deny that they were in utter disbelief. Matthew was like a God to them. Thus, what they envisioned that their big boss's woman would look like was a goddess that could topple heaven and earth.
They pictured an elegant, educated, and unparalleled beauty that deserved to stand beside Matthew. A deserving queen who could stand on the same ground as Matthew… not this lady beside him! Zoey just shattered the images in their head.
"That's all. Dismissed." Pleased that no one raised a question anymore, Matthew dismissed them. "Bring your captains to the infirmary. The wounds are not real, but they still need to get checked." He added, watching them bow their heads once again and one after another left the manor.
Soon, everyone left aside from Zoey, Matthew, Paul, and Carter. Just then, Zoey finally absorbed everything that made her knees feel weak. "Hey… I have a company to run…" She muttered helplessly, reminding Matthew by mumbling. However, Matthew only heard mumblings that were impossible to understand.
"Carter, why are you still here?" Since he couldn't understand Zoey's mumblings, Matthew turned to Carter who insisted on staying.
"I have a question that Miss…" Carter's words trailed off, having zero clue how to address Zoey as he didn't want to sound disrespectful.
"Z." Matthew blinked his eyes once, giving Zoey a nickname just like what everyone called her in his memories or dreams -- whatever they were exactly.
"Miss Z said she will tell me why she looks familiar. I am curious if I've met her before and…" Carter paused, mustering his courage to be truthful. "...and if I can trust her. If I met her before being a part of this family, then, my apologies, Master, I don't think I can trust her."
"Ohh?" As he listened to Carter's explanation, Matthew nodded his head and then turned towards Zoey.
"I think he abducted me…" Zoey mumbled, ignoring everything as she thought that Matthew wouldn't let her go out anymore. Not that she couldn't escape, but escaping would be more stressful.
"Abracadabra, wake up." Matthew snapped his finger in front of her; his tone blank as he pretended to wake her up through chanting silly magic words.
Funny enough, Zoey was snapped out from her trance. She moved her shaking eyes at Matthew who was staring at her emotionlessly. "Are you awake? Or should I cast another spell so…"
"What?! No! Before Matthew could finish his words, Zoey hollered as she shook her head. "I was bluffing!" Due to her subconscious mind that was paying attention to her surroundings, Zoey turned towards Carter and exclaimed.
"Of course we haven't met before! How is that possible? Unless I delivered pizza to your place back when I was working as a delivery person, or you went to xxx convenience store on xx street because I was a cashier before!" Almost immediately, Zoey explained without remorse on her face as if she didn't bluff and conned Carter to follow her instructions.
Matthew and the rest: "...."
