Matthew's expression didn't have much change, but opened his mouth as he let her feed him. "Hehe~" Zoey's smile grew wider, watching him chew the food as she cupped her cheek by her hand while the other held onto the chopstick.
"Delicious?" She asked, still bearing the same smile.
"Mhmm,"
"But I'm more appetizing, you know." Zoey was quick to respond, winking at him that caused the others especially Owen and Kenneth to gasp in disbelief.
"Miss Z, Master, no offense, but I believe this is not the time to play around." Carter was displeased at Zoey's take on the case because it only showed how she was not ready for it.
"I agree with Carter this time." Owen voiced out, casting Zoey a secret glare which the latter ignored with an innocent eyes.
"Calm down, you two." Paul ordered, his eyes sharp but his tone benign. Although he was also not pleased by Zoey's lack of seriousness, that didn't mean they could just bluntly speak like that to their boss.
Matthew still calls the shot. Whether they were happy or not about Zoey's presence, they shouldn't berate Matthew with that. After all, no one knew the real position of Zoey in the Master's heart. Matthew said she was his girlfriend.
In other words, she might just be Matthew's past time whom he would throw once he was done playing. Indeed, although not many liked Zoey being with him, they held onto the possibility that they would break up once Matthew had his fun.
"But Miss Z seems like she didn't understand the situation." Carter argued, staring straight at Paul. His demeanor was commanding, clashing against Paul.
Just then, Matthew raised his hand. His eyes slowly traveled up and down to her. "Eat first. Pretend you're not hearing this." Instead of teasing back, Matthew decided against it. He wanted to say he could only know if he had a taste, but his people were around him.
Not that he would feel embarrassed by it. It wasn't just the time to play with her. "Also, you three join us for breakfast." He invited, casting them a side eye which the three abided immediately.
When they perched on the empty chairs, Matthew glanced at their faces. "Eat first and calm down." He proposed calmly, glancing at Zoey.
"Master, this is a grave situation. How can we just eat knowing…"
"It's not that you will catch the person now." Before Carter could finish his sentence, Zoey mumbled while picking up another bite of the omelette and placed it over Matthew's plate.
"Miss Z, are you saying we don't have the capability to know who it was?" Annoyed, Carter turned his sharp eyes towards her. He was the only one who had the audacity to speak to her in that manner in front of Matthew because he was more concerned about Matthew's well-being than her.
In Carter's perspective, Matthew might be smart. However, a woman's temptation was also dangerous. Therefore, he believed that Matthew was bewitched by her and that was clouding his judgement.
"Are you underestimating us?" Carter asked once again, triggered by her words.
"No." Slowly, Zoey turned her eyes to the pair of glaring eyes cast upon her. "What I'm saying is, if you can catch the person who left the mail, Paul would already have caught him. He's probably being interrogated by now. But, he's not." In a matter-of-fact tone, Zoey explained.
She shrugged her shoulders, shifting her gaze back to Matthew. "Right?" She asked, tilting her head to the side.
Matthew stared at her in amusement, the side of his lips curled into a smirk because she shared the same thoughts as him. "That's right." He nodded, agreeing with her which irked Carter even more.
"Master, how can you --"
"Geez! Carter!" Before Carter could question Matthew's agreement with Zoey's point, Kenneth chimed in. "Don't let your feelings cloud your judgment!" He sassed, frustrated hearing this nonsense bickering.
"This lady is right. If we could catch the person, he would have been taken to the base already." Kenneth rolled his eyes, shaking his head before shooting Carter an eye full of disbelief. "We're only looking into it to find some clue but no one here would believe that we would ever know who it was." He explained, losing his appetite because he had never been this frustrated with Matthew's men in terms of judging the situation.
"Then, why are we called here?" After Kenneth's explanation, Ryan knitted his brows as he asked. When his question was dropped, the three of them went silent and looked at Matthew.
"The auction is near, I won't attend.' Without further ado, Matthew finally spoke.
Obviously, the three of them had their brows furrowed. They knew about the auction, they were tasked to escort Matthew. However, if there was a change of plan, Paul would have informed them.
However, Matthew was the one relaying the news. Therefore, they expected that there might be changes in the plan but the mission would continue.
"*Sigh* I knew this would happen with how he agreed that quickly." Meanwhile, Kenneth could not help but sigh.
"General Bai and everyone would ambush the auction. As they do so, I want to get my hands on one of the items I've been vying." Without batting an eye, Matthew explained the main purpose of this early meeting.
"I assume the reason they left this mail is because someone also wants the same items." In a matter-of-fact tone, Matthew glanced at Zoey who was already eating without contributing in the conversation. "Although we can't just ignore the intrusion in my territory, it's just a diversion."
Slowly, Matthew handed his hand towards his side. As if on cue, Paul gave the letter to him. "Watch out." He read the message glued on the piece of paper which made him smirk.
"How interesting…" He muttered, amused that someone could play games with him like this. Indeed, instead of being worried, Matthew was more amused at who was the person trying to play games with him.
Zoey glanced at Matthew, blinking her eyes as she chewed down the food she was eating.. "Can I go to the auction?" After swallowing down the food, Zoey asked innocently.
