Two days had gone by in the blink of an eye. They packed the entire mansion with people, but this time, not only Matthew's people were thronging the place but also medical professionals. Why? That was because for the past two days, Matthew hadn't woken up!
Just the first day of Matthew still unconscious, Zoey and Paul were already worried. What more, now that there wasn't a sign of him waking up, everyone was worried. The doctor that first checked Matthew said it was due to fatigue and stress. However, why wasn't he waking up?
Although Matthew was still breathing and seemed he was just asleep, everyone was worried.
"You said he'll be fine, didn't you?" As soon as the first doctor that checked on Matthew arrived, Zoey stormed towards him and instantly berated him. "Why hasn't he woken up?!" Her voice thundered, catching everyone's attention that caused silence in the air.
"Miss Zhou, please calm down." Paul approached her side and calmly remarked. "Doctor Liang has been a trusted family doctor of the Xi Family." He added politely, glancing at Zoey then to the said Doctor.
"Doctor Liang might have overlooked something in his first checkup. That's why we invited him here, Miss Zhou." Slowly, Paul's tone grew colder while his eyes glinted as he stared at the middle-aged man doctor.
"He will have to check Master once again and every doctor we invited for their opinions. If what Doctor Liang overlooked was something that endangered the young master's life…" Paul didn't finish his sentence as he cast the said doctor a warning look.
"Assistant Qian, our Liang Family has been at the Xi Family's service for generations. Are you threatening me?" Yet, unlike what everyone expected, the doctor wasn't a pushover as he stood with dignity.
"I did a thorough check on the young master's condition two days ago and I trust my skill as a doctor." He affirmed, defending himself despite the despicable gaze thrown at him by Matthew's people.
"We will figure that out, Doctor Liang." Just like the doctor, Paul, although restrained, remained adamant on the decision he would come up with after this. After all, he was the one who contacted the said doctor as the Xi Family trusted him.
However, people's hearts had always been changeable. Who knew if they could still trust them? No one could truly blame Paul's train of thoughts and action as Matthew's life was on the line. Not that he was afraid of death once Vivian heard about it, but Paul just couldn't let Matthew die before him.
He swore his loyalty and oath to protect his boss until the very end. He couldn't forgive himself if Doctor Liang turned his back on the Xis and was waiting for a chance like this.
"I hope you stand to your claims until the very end, Doctor." Zoey glanced at Doctor Liang, her eyes cold and intimidating. Without further ado, she headed inside the room while Paul gestured to Doctor Liang and other trusted doctors to enter the room.
When everyone was inside, Zoey stood to the side. She leaned her back against the wall, her arms crossed under her chest as she watched them do what they needed to do.
After some time, Doctor Liang, who came to check first, removed his glasses as he turned to Paul. "This…" His expression changed, alerting Zoey and Paul as they waited for whatever words that would come out from his mouth.
Doctor Liang then turned to his fellow doctors, who were as skilled as him. After some time, he sighed as one of the doctors who finished checking Matthew's vitals also looked at him with the same conflicted countenance.
"There's nothing wrong with Young Master Xi." Without further ado, Doctor Liang turned to them and sighed.
"What do you mean there's nothing wrong with him?" Impatient at the ridiculous answer she didn't expect to hear, Zoey arched her brows.
"Young Master's Xi's vitals are all within normal range." One of the doctors answered Zoey. "There's nothing wrong with the young master, technically." He added, sighing and he glanced at Zoey and then to Paul who had flaunted his power before.
Everyone understood that a wrong diagnosis might cost them their lives. After all, the person they needed to 'treat' was a very important figure. Of course, since everyone assumed that Doctor Liang missed a vital point, the doctors who came here knew that it was their chance to be on the Xi Family's good graces.
After all, taking this chance, although each of them were renowned doctors in their field, there was more that Matthew could offer other than fame and wealth. Thus, it was safe to say that everyone came here with an ulterior motive in exchange for their services.
Sadly, by the looks of it, it wasn't Doctor Liang's fault. He didn't miss anything, nor did he make a mistake in Matthew's condition.
"Nothing wrong?" Zoey scoffed, retracting her back from the wall as she faced everyone who was known as doctors but were spouting nonsense. "If there's nothing wrong, then why is he still sleeping? He's been sleeping for two days straight!" Once again, Zoey's voice thundered as ripples of emotions encircled around her heart.
"It's the young master's will." Before Zoey could blow up, Doctor Liang cleared his throat as he stared directly at Zoey. "Young Master Xi doesn't want to wake up." He added, his voice unfaltering as he averted his gaze back to his patient.
"This is beyond our expertise. There isn't a medical answer to this case yet, but the only person who can help the young master is himself." Doctor Liang sighed heavily, looking up to his fellow doctors who also sighed and shook their heads lightly.
"But, perhaps, talking to him will help as well. This is a rare case, but if he didn't wake up as soon as possible, it will bring complications." Doctor Liang informed, glancing at Zoey once again as he assumed she was Matthews good friend as he didn't dare assume she was his woman.
With that being said, Paul assisted everyone out of the room while Zoey remained beside Matthew. "Darling…" She whispered, the doctor's words rang inside her head once again.
"Why…?" Under her breath, she inquired.. Her brows furrowed together as she couldn't understand his will behind this. "You said you will protect me this time… but why do I feel like you're going farther and farther away from me?"
