The next day…
Matthew's eyes beneath his eyelids flickered before they slowly opened. The moment he did, Zoey's bright front welcomed his eyes.
"Goodmorning," She greeted him. "Life is so unfair that you still look good, even in the mornings."
Zoey was cupping her cheeks, her elbow propped on the pillow as the side of her lips curled into a wide grin. She was in a very good mood which one could distinguish immediately with the high energy circling around her.
"Morning," Matthew greeted back as he reached his hand out to her and pinched her cheek lightly.
Slowly, the side of his lips tilted into a subtle smile. He had been waking up next to her for quite a while. But this was the very first time in a long time that he had truly appreciated this moment. It was because the love he invested in her from this lifetime and the previous one combined together.
"Get up, Mister! Let's eat breakfast together!" Zoey grinned, drawing away from him as she sat upright.
Just like her, Matthew assisted himself up and leaned his back against the headboard. He turned his eyes towards her, bearing the same gentle smile on his lips.
Matthew watched Zoey hop out of the bed and then walked around the bed carrying a pair of house slippers for him.
"Here," She muttered. "I'll help the people downstairs. Brush and join us, okay?"
After placing the house slippers on his side of the bed, Zoey stood upright. She put her knuckles on her hips, grinning wide as she stared at him.
"I won't make breakfast if that's what you're worrying about." Zoey chuckled as she assumed he might be thinking of that.
With that being said, Zoey shrugged her shoulders and began skipping her steps away from him. Zoey turned around upon reaching the door and beamed him a sweet smile.
"I'll be back." She said before leaving the room in a good mood.
When the door shut closed, Matthew could not help but chuckle. "That's not what I'm worrying about." He muttered as he shook his head sideways.
*****
In the kitchen, Ivan and Angelo perched on the empty seats around the table. Ivan traveled his eyes on each dish laid on the table as he narrowed his eyes suspiciously.
"You're not the one who cooked this, right?" He inquired as he slowly raised his eyes towards Zoey.
Zoey stood behind the chair that was close to the vacant headset. She rolled her eyes at the silly question thrown at her.
"What if I did?" She sassed. "Not that I'm forbidden from cooking meals for my Darling."
"Alright, have a nice meal. I'll wait for you outside." Ivan placed his palms on the edge of the table and pushed himself up.
"Do you think she can prepare something like this?"
Just then, Angelo cast Ivan a knowing look. He then averted his eyes to the food served for them and shook his head. In his eyes, he could immediately distinguish the difference between the breakfast they had when Zoey cooked and the chef's food presentation.
"Who knows what kind of tricks she has learned?" Ivan shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly before he sat down again.
"I'm only allowing you to insult me because it's true. Don't push your luck, young one." Zoey scoffed in dismay as she rolled her eyes once again.
Zoey then slowly perched on the seat before her 'darling radar' rang inside her head. That instant, Zoey turned her head in Matthew's direction and her eyes gleamed with joy.
"Darling~!" She called out sweetly. The dismay that was plastered across her face because of Ivan's nonsense instantly changed into a bright smile.
Matthew glanced at her as his steps slowed down. After a beat, he moved his gaze towards the indifferent Ivan who was staring at Zoey in disgust.
For some reason, Matthew's eyes glinted momentarily before he perched on the head seat.
"Young Master," As soon as Matthew sat on the head seat, Paul's worried voice came from his side. "You should rest until…"
However, Paul couldn't finish his sentence as Matthew raised his hand. He pursed his lips in a thin line and hung his head low.
Paul was still worried about Matthew's health and he wanted his boss to rest more. Matthew had been resting, though. At least, he was sleeping for six days straight.
"Paul, join us." Matthew ordered as he slowly raised his gaze to his assistant and friend.
Paul remained in his position for a good fifteen seconds before he nodded. "Yes, young master."
With that being said, Paul perched on the seat near the headset; sitting in the same row as Ivan and Angelo. Meanwhile, Zoey sat down across them.
"How are you feeling? Good? I agree with Paul, though. You shouldn't push yourself and attend your meetings. He can handle it."
As Zoey began serving Matthew, she spouted in a gentle way. Matthew stared at her while she was placing a large portion of food on his plate while she hadn't served anything in hers.
Normally, Matthew would do that for her. But, since she was faster, Matthew let her do so.
"You," Matthew called out coldly, catching Ivan's attention as the latter raised his head and arched his right brow.
Just like Ivan, Zoey, Angelo, and Paul turned their head towards Matthew. Zoey tilted her head to the side while Angelo furrowed his brows. Paul, on the other hand, just stared at Matthew's side profile in silence. The four of them waited for Matthew's next words.
"Don't judge your sister's cooking skill," Matthew uttered in utter seriousness. "It's not that bad."
Matthew slowly averted his eyes away from Ivan and then started filling Zoey's plate. Ivan could not help but gasp in disbelief as he thought for a second Matthew was about to say something important with the aura emanating from Matthew.
"Hehe~ right? A wide grin immediately resurfaced on Zoey's face as she giggled.. "This person just didn't want to admit I'm a little bit of everything."
